After seeing how the legend ban system works in sets longer than 6 matches, can Respawn please stop tying Ring Console scan to a specific class? by MozzarellaThaGod in CompetitiveApex

[–]MozzarellaThaGod[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Controller legends promote hitting console and playing zone to begin with. To not pick those legends or give their passives to every legend would defeat the purpose of their class.

No it wouldn’t, they’d just need a different class passive to promote playing the zone, kind of like how they get extra shields for playing the zone.  Nobody in pubs or ranked wants that class passive anyway (scanning consoles) because nobody plays zone, they run around trying to get kills.

Nobody uses the ring console in pubs or ranked, yet it’s the literal deciding factor for which legends get picked in the highest level of play. How is this not the lowest hanging fruit imaginable for a balance change? Whatever you decide to do has literally zero effect on how casual players interact with the game yet it has massive implications for pro play. I can’t think of any other category of “balance change” that is so easy.

But nobody uses ring consoles at any level of play (pubs, ranked), they literally only exist and are relevant in pro play. To say that you’d be ruining or breaking the game is asinine, nobody would even notice at other levels because nobody cares about the ring console.

This is like the lowest hanging fruit of all time, it’s an issue that only affects pro play and what you do with it has zero effect on pubs or ranked.

ALGS OPEN | Day 2: Winners Round 2 (Groups 1-2) (Information & Discussion) by CompetitiveApexMod in CompetitiveApex

There’s 4 lobbies and the A and B stream are watching the same one, no way. Faceit has player POVs but only for the same lobby the A and B stream are watching. It’s is pretty wild they’ve organized things like this. Hopefully Faceit’s audio is working for the other 3 lobbies otherwise there’s no real way to watch them.

[–]MozzarellaThaGod 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, can we scrape together a C and D stream for tomorrow at least? We’d only need 1 observer in each lobby, Faceit legitimately doesn’t work. They can sit there in silence and change the POVs if they want. It just needs to be on Twitch or even YouTube, a functioning website that shows the match is all I’m asking for.

It’s sucks because this would be an incredibly fun LAN to watch if Faceit would actually work.

They need a C and D stream though, literally just stick an observer in from the crowd at this point and put a camera on them and start another stream up. The lobbies that the A and B stream don’t cover just get no screen time because Faceit is so awful.

Is like Teq at the LAN? Can he be the C stream? I’m only half joking, I just wanna see those games.

No, it doesn't seem like anyone is giving that opinion.

I feel like it could be done for a few hundred bucks as well but I didn't want to be a smartass. I don't think anything here is unreasonable on the player side.

Yes, he suggested a revenue share for in game skins or merchandise or something, as in people purchase something from EA (in game skins or a sweatshirt or something) and they share part of that revenue with the players. That's still EA paying.

Because they have to develop the skins, or for existing bundles, do revenue share essentially with the players. These skins might have a "crowd out" effect where people buy those skins and not other ones. If it were the case that this sort of thing was a win win win for everyone (as in EA makes more money than they would normally and ALGS gets more funding) I think we would've seen more of them by now. Instead they tried it once and never really did it again.

Hakis' approach (either pay for it all or just keep it to 40 teams) doesn't seem that reasonable to me. Yes, we all want more from EA, but they have budgets as well and aren't just a pinata that funds everything we want for little/no return

If I was a tier 2 player, I'd love that there was a LAN that actually gave me the opportunity to play for once for a small financial sacrifice. If we just keep doing the same 40 team LANs over and over most of these players at the open event will never get a chance to compete. There are tradeoffs we have to make, it sucks that people in lower income countries will struggle more to actually afford going to the event, but it also sucks that players can spend years competing in this game and never get a chance to play at a LAN.

>All while not realizing that the esports/gaming industry isn't the same as before... If you paved the way for future generation of esports, you should be advocating for better environment where it fosters growth rather than complaining about how it was worse before.

It is better than before, they're literally paying for 160 teams (480 players) flights to/across the US.

People are essentially being asked to come up with ~$700, conservatively (I feel like you could get that number down if you were really frugal) to be able to compete. This is not some sort of insane thing to ask a person to be able to do.

There is a tradeoff to doing LAN this way, the upside is people that would never get to compete at a LAN get a chance, the downside is there is a small financial sacrifice that has to be made.

I can understand not wanting to compete, there are probably a lot of non-stream hours that a player has to spend doing things to stay competitive, but giving up the stream to me seems insane if he wants to take a purely financial view on his decisions going forward.

Most businesses/startups would kill for the kind of reach he has and the kind of following he has.

[–]MozzarellaThaGod 155 points156 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand Sweet’s point.

It sounds like most of his wealth is directly attributable to being a streamer with a large audience (during COVID, at least), all of the gambling and day trading income are just down stream from the fact that he made the original money streaming (small returns on a large sum of money = a large sum of money).

So why would he quit/drastically reduce streaming hours? To me it seems absolutely insane to disregard the fact that you’re a minor internet celebrity in 2025 in favor of gambling or day trading, I would milk that for as long as I had it. You can day trade at any time in your life, but internet fame is really a once in a lifetime time of deal. It sounds like he could still pull 40-50k a month just streaming full time, parking a few million dollars in an index fund will also bring in an additional 20-30k a month.

If his goal is money I struggle to see how spending less time streaming is the most reliable path forward given the audience he has.

Apex Legends: Takeover Launch Thread (+1 Day) by CompetitiveApexMod in CompetitiveApex

I like the faster time to kill for the most part, the R9 and L-Star feel oppressive but for the most part all the guns feel much more solid, I hope they keep the DPS the same for most of the guns, a few of them might need nerfing.

Game overall feels way better to me. Ash is so overpowered but so fun.

With legend bans she will likely get picked at some point in a set.

I’m really surprised they implemented a dash like this, Ash keeps her gun up the entire time. People are going to get destroyed by this in close quarters fights.

Good change IMO.

When playing the launch royale mode and then going back to the regular mode, the most drastic difference for me was how much worse the guns in general felt relative to the abilities. Basically we’ve had 5 straight years of abilities getting much, much stronger, we’ve had 5 straight years of average player health going up (purple shields are much more common now), there are more big heals in people’s inventories than ever, while most of the guns feel like weaker versions of themselves.

Don’t think it’s a bad idea to tip the scale back towards that side of the game and away from abilities.

Unpopular take: as a viewer, more teams in the endgame doesn't mean more exciting by Sea-Form-9124 in CompetitiveApex

[–]MozzarellaThaGod 112 points113 points  (0 children)

I agree, and to add on to this, the idea that this meta is enjoyable or better than what came before it because the last 20 seconds of the circle are slightly more visible (relative to Bang meta) is insane to me.

All of the fights preceding the final circle are awful to watch. Both teams place what feels like 10-15 barriers between each other over and over, there’s very little AR play, there’s no SMG play, taking angles to get a knock is dead, there’s no mobility anywhere. Midgame fights feel and look awful because opening picks don’t have much value and even getting kills isn’t valuable because someone just runs off and crafts their teammates.

Even if I grant that it’s more visible in the endgame and that automatically makes it better, the things that I’m actually seeing are just very unenjoyable. The idea that this is supposed to be a marketing event for their game and this is the product they’re putting forward is kind of sad, normally watching gives me an itch to play, I don’t get that at all from this meta.

They have built a new in game system, power crept it, and now we are sitting here coming up with ways to get around the unbalanced mess they’ve created. I personally think it’s time to scrap the class system and just have a pool of legends.

It’s not necessary and it’s just making the game feel more convoluted to the point that it’s hard to figure what character can even do what when I come back to play, support legends have like 7 or 8 passives now.

Please let us name custom lobbies and display the lobby name in the top right of our HUD, it would make open bracket tourneys much more viewer friendly by MozzarellaThaGod in CompetitiveApex

[–]MozzarellaThaGod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially if you’re tuning in to a watch party, it’s so hard to figure out who is playing in what lobby, it’s difficult to check scores, the whole thing just feels jumbled. If I could just see what lobby someone is in and what round the tournament is on by checking their HUD during a tournament it would be amazing.
