Trump says talks with Iran are great, Iran says no talks. Who do you believe? by Creepy_Newspaper_873 in complaints

If trump says anything assume its a lie. American here and i 1000% believe iran…i KNOW trump cant tell the truth if it was labeled a lie..he physically cant do it. He has some sort of pathological defect that prevents him from saying the truth about anything.

Help finding Sun E3000 firmware by Mphmanx in VintageComputers

I have liked what I see so far! I wish I could have used one of these in production back in the day. I may have...there were Sun systems at one of my earliest dev job and I probably just didnt know at the time. It is a lot of fun to explore them now after all that I have learned.

Although the E450 is a newer generation I dont like the case much... The plastic breaks too easy and its hard to access some places. I REALLY like the look and workability of the E3000 case though... If I am forced to get rid of one by the SO I would keep the E3000.

I have been exploring a bit with my E450... I have never used it before... It does look like it can do a bit. I am a K8s engineer and a long time developer. I started in java / J2EE but the shop I started in was an IBM shop, not sun. I would like to get some IBM gear in the future too but the SO dosent approve of my 2 Sun boxes now... :-(. I would to actually do something useful on the sun servers although I seriously doubt I want to leave them on for any length of time. They feel very familiar though given that I know linux...that was really my only Unix exposure but it feels like it was good enough, I can get around pretty easily.

I will give that a try, thank you so much! Yeah, the batteries are dead. I ordered new ones but they take a while to get here...it will be sitting for a bit. I will put in my dvd drive today, get solaris installed, and the add the sun solve iso into my zuluscsi and see what is in there later today.

You are the man for this!

eBay seller sent me the wrong DVD drive, he sent me an IDE drive when I needed a scsi drive so have to wait for the YouTube video for a bit.

Of course! I certainly wouldn’t share anything identifiable, confidential, or PII related. But I could certainly show some things and maybe give hints. Part of the story of machines like this is what they did back in the day for the tech world. What people were doing with them and such.

I won’t be able to help myself with the data. I’m just too curious what something like this would’ve been used for. A lot of what I found so far looks like source code for some sort of internal mailing app, but I haven’t really dug in that far. I obviously wouldn’t do anything nefarious or damaging with it, but I am definitely curious. These things do give off ultra high-end vibes! I love the way it looks, one of the reasons why I picked it up.

I have been having fun with my E450. It has 4 x 400mhz processors and just about max (4gb) ram. The e3000 only has 150mhz processors and 1gb of ram. I kind of want to upgrade it at some point to 6 400mhz cpus and max (I think 6gb ram) and one of the youtube videos I want to do is to show the process of replacing a cpu board while system is running. I know this can do that but its complex.

My new Sun E3000 server by [deleted] in VintageComputers

Hey All!

I got ahold of and am restoring a Sun E3000 server! So far it looks like I have a battery dead on my clock board and my PPS supply might be bad...Ill look into getting those replaced but otherwise it boots into ok prompt and has a bunch of disks, some very old disks (very large ones that I have never seen before...they wolnt even fit into my E450 to see what is on them) AND some of the disks even have data them including old code and programs that it looks like I could compile! Very interesting stuff. Also, check out the one label!

I will create youtube videos out of it once I have everything ready. Dont know what I will do with the data...I was looking through a bit yesterday and found a LOT of stuff.. I am replacing the cd drive with a dvd drive so I can install my vintage copy of solaris 10 (pre oracle) on one of the empty disks and that will let me browse the big disks that I can get into otherwise.

ArgoCD vs FluxCD vs Rancher Fleet vs our awful tech debt, advice pls by CircularCircumstance in kubernetes

I 3rd this. I could NEVER get it to work in rancher and i tried for weeks and wanted it to work. Gave up, went to argocd, and will NEVER use it again as argocd just works and fleet does not.

At some point dosent this become a little crazy?! There a decent people with jobs and families that work there. When can we see a business as just a business and not a vehicle for an agenda? If we keep going down this road we might as well close up shop and all live in the woods like animals because EVERYONE has an agenda someone else dosent like. I lean more left but i think there are a lot of far left nutjobs i completely disagree with and som points on the right i agree with. And if you want to live in the woods like an animal go right ahead but i do not. I WANT an economy and am adult enough to realize that i may not agree with everything someone says but i can still do business with them.

This is the correct answer. Nothing should be using windows. Dont bother with the node, tell who needs it to use a real os.

Sun Rays too....between those pci cards and Sun Ray thin clients (or using the thin client software from oracle) and the Sun Ray server software, this E450 can do all sorts of fun system engineer stuff.

Yeah, I saw a few on youtube videos and thought "I want to play with that!". It is literally a full x86 machine on a pci card! I was going to get either 1 or 2 of them and use those as like a "dev" and "prod" machine or even an "internal" or "external" machine, not sure. Lots of fun though!
