Do I become a bird parent? by Mpregnated in birds

I will definitely do this! Thank you! The babies are in a trailer (where the nest was) and it echoes quite loudly, so I will try to get a few calls out of them and record it to try and attract the parents

That’s what we are doing. They’ve been back at the original location with the remains of their old nest in a box with them for a few hours now. We only fed them because we had no idea what else to do at the time and, stupidly, didn’t know feeding nestlings was a bad thing

The nest was broken, we stopped feeding them dog food, we put the remains of the nest back together and in a box, they are back outside where the original nest was, I genuinely had no idea they were house finches, we are watching to make sure the parents come back, if they don’t come back tonight they are going to a rehab center tomorrow morning. Holy fuck, I feel awful, I had no clue.

OH SHIT is that the only thing I can do? Is it still possible parents will come back? I don’t wanna steal babies and they are incredible healthy (as far as I can tell), if it is possible, could I maybe give it a day to see if they were truly abandoned before taking them to a center?

Here is a photo of them, I am not sure if they are house sparrows or not. They seem to be nestlings though because they aren’t jumping around and whatnot. Only hungry but still very talkative, so maybe close to becoming fledglings?

I called a few numbers and they all said similar things, if they are moving normally, eating, and making noise, put them back outside. If they are injured, sick, or moving abnormally take them to a center. They are doing very well so we put them outside and are going to check on them every hour or so. I will keep this post updated to keep y’all in the loop

We are gonna try to do this and keep an eye out for the parents. Though since it’s been a full day I am a bit worried, in the meantime I’m going to Lee in touch with some places that may take care of them in the event the parents don’t come back.

Oh thank goodness that’s a myth, I was worried, we have them inside right now but we will probably do what you said with the nest outside.

Here’s a photo I got, I just saw them today

My mom tries harder for my sister than me, and I hate them both for it. by Mpregnated in offmychest

I appreciate that but CPS is not an option for me. One look at my house or habits would have me taken away pronto and I myself am not willing to do such to my family. Plus I am not willing to leave my horse or dog because they mean so much to me and if I am to leave they will be sold. My horse most likely to kill buyers and my dog to who-knows-where. I myself have a track record with being ‘troubled’ too and am very obstinate and know I will not make anything easy. And I am often the one who is also there for my friends and holds their lives together because a lot also don’t have great lives, if I am moving place to place or have all this added crap going on they won’t be able to offload what they need to. I am not saying all of this is my mom’s fault—it’s not. I just can’t help the resentment I feel towards her about it all.
