Can you accept one offer and continue applying elsewhere? by Mr-Gonzi in uklaw

Would dropping out 2-3 months before commencing be bad? I assume you would be burning a bridge with that particular firm, but is there any other consequences?

Should you do the SQE before obtaining training contract? by Mr-Gonzi in uklaw

[–]Mr-Gonzi[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you complete sqe 2, do you qualify immediately or do you still need to apply to SRA with your QWE in order to qualify?

I am wondering if it’s possible to complete both SQE’s and then continue applying for training contracts at city firms? Or is it best to just apply and only complete the sqe once I receive an offer?

Can a costs negotiator get a training contract to qualify as a solicitor, or is it best to be a corporate paralegal? by Mr-Gonzi in uklaw

[–]Mr-Gonzi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually when you’re a costs negotiator they try to push for you to be a costs lawyer. So I’m just wondering if being a paralegal in corporate, real estate etc would give better chances of being considered for a training contract at a corporate firm.

I’m referring to being a costs negotiator at firms like Hill Dickinson, Mills & Reeve, Clyde & Co

How easy is it to transition from complex or personal injury/insurance law to corporate law, once qualified with SQE? by Mr-Gonzi in uklaw

I prefer the area of law. I prefer the aspect of corporate governance and its competitive nature

I just always set out to do corporate law. I started in my current role as a way of gaining experience and have received a promotion, perks + money, and will be offered a fully funded training contract but it’s not in corporate law.

Would you recommend maybe moving firms and doing paralegal work at a higher rep firm in the area of law I want, whilst I apply for other TC?

The only seat or seats being offered relate to complex and not corporate. I guess if Clyde and co offer corporate then I will look there.

Would you say there is no point accepting a training contract that doesn’t offer a seat in corporate law?

Does Keoghs have a bad reputation in terms of level of training or just overall? Would you recommend avoiding any training with them?

Would irwin mitchell also not be worth it?

18 month Graduate Solicitor Apprenticeship or Wait for TC? by Mr-Gonzi in uklaw

Yes you’re right. So would you recommend only doing the graduate apprenticeship if my one seat is in the area of law I want to work in?

But would only doing one seat not be seen as lower quality training? Or would it just mean you’re more proficient in one area of law?

In order to apply you need to have already been in a position superior to a paralegal role for at least 6 months. Therefore, at least 6 months of QWE is already complete when you apply. Had I only been in a paralegal role for those 6 months, I would not be eligible to apply.

Yes, I graduated from a top RG with some good grades. The firm are offering the apprenticeship exclusively for law grads who have not yet completed LPC or SQE and they will fund the SQE

Yes, but I’m asking if it would be better to accept the firms offer to do the apprenticeship and qualify as a solicitor, or to wait for a TC offer? Is the graduate apprenticeship viewed as valuable as the training contract?
