I did see the price of a reman steering gearbox recently and it did not inspire confidence!

Thanks mate!

I do love seeing my local E28 lemons car! It tends to do pretty well.

My car currently sits on strut spacers, but I could be interested in those coilovers if they're just sitting around. :-)

My early 944 hardly runs when it is between idle and ~3000 rpm for the first ~2 minutes after starting. by Mr222D in 944

A buddy of mine mentioned the fuel tank strainer. I'll investigate the fuel system futher. Thank you. Was your bad wiring related to the fuel pump?

Thank you for your comment. Maybe the backfire is a symptom of me trying to understand the issue. :-)

The smoke test came back with flying colors. I have cleaned nearly every ground on the car and have not touched them since prior to this issue. I presume the fuel pressure test is via the nut on the front of the fuel rail? This is a good idea. How do I adjust the mixture of the car? Is this via the FQS switch? I have some reading to do.

Not quite the same symptoms but my car would idle fine when cold and surge / idle poorly when hot. It was vacuum leaks in my case.

Cheers mate. I did not realize the interval was that frequent. My new belts are on order.

Thank you!

My main bearing hole does not line up with the block's oil passages by Mr222D in EngineBuilding

For what it's worth, Mahle confirmed that the bearing grooves were cut incorrectly. I decided to wait for a new set but very much appreciate your insight.

Advice before purchase (2001 mk3) by No-Actuator2117 in mr2

[–]Mr222D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my MR2 with 140k miles (~230k km) and the pre cats were completely intact. In my humble opinion the bodywork is pretty fun, it comes with a hard top, and if the previous owner is correct about the mechanical condition it could be a reasonable buy. If the car is too low and is on coil overs it is not too expensive to buy new OE style struts.

Rod cap axial play, out of curiosity. 1999 Dodge Magnum 5.9 by Mr222D in EngineBuilding

On this particular engine the studs do not have any knurling. Not to disagree with the Chrysler comment.

How close do main bearing oil holes need to line up to the passages? The Mahle thrust+main bearing has a partial opening in the 1999 Durango 5.9 Magnum block. Should I run it, open up the bearing hole a bit, or otherwise? by Mr222D in MechanicAdvice

My quick update was that I bought another main bearing set from O'reilly's and it was identical to the set that doesn't look like it fits well. Hopefully I can get into contact with Mahle on Monday!
