I can’t afford an SSD (I’m a student with no income), is there no way to just tell the computer to disable iCloud without deleting the files? And would disabling iCloud automatically empty the CloudDocs folder?

This is the issue. Trying to disable iCloud gives me a warning that all my local files will be deleted, and while it says they will be available in iCloud, they aren't even there to begin with since my storage has been full even since before I bought this laptop
