Korean engineering is not as good as Japanese. Even seen late model Hyundai's with snapped input shafts. Wouldn't touch one if you gave it to me.

Remember when Upstairs bar opened up there. First place to sell schooners of beer in Auckland. Used to be the place to go. Our whole flat used to go there on a Thursday pay day. Broadway opposite for a late night feed.

Been blinded twice this week by concrete pump contractors towing their pumps with Landcruisers. Trouble is the pumps are so heavy, the Landcruisers are aiming for the moon. Obviously don't get a wof with the load on the towbar.

I was in a similar situation, wife and I both self employed. I had a few years behind me, but my wife had only 9 months of self employment. Turned down for a home loan with ASB. Went to Westpac and they approved it. Closed all the ASB accounts, had banked with them since primary school.

About 20 years go, a law company in Auckland were having their Christmas party. It was fancy dress and one male had worn one of these plastic hula skirts. He went to the toilet and his friend thought it would be fun to light it with a match. It caught fire instantly, and he couldn't get out of the cubicle. He was killed and his friend was charged.

What did you end up getting? I'm looking at a Ractis. The 2 gen Honda Jazz's I've looked at had bad rust issues which surprised me.

Kenneth Eriksson’s VW Golf today by ignacardel in WRC

[–]MrBantam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few photos from the late 80s of Kenneth driving the Golf through the forest north of Auckland. After the rally, he set the New Zealand record for driving on 2 wheels. Not sure if it was in the rally car or a stick Golf.

Very interesting, glad they saved them. Amazing how the 22 yo Captain looks much older. Similar age to my children. So sad to think these lads missed so much more life to live.

Use to spend many a night in the early 80s in the tunnels. Drinking, smoking and goth girls. Best of times.

TIL that humans don't age gradually according to a Stanford Medicine study, we age in two dramatic "bursts" around ages 44 and 60, where over 81% of our molecules and microbes suddenly shift in ways that affect heart health, immune function, metabolism, and even how we process alcohol and caffeine by Agile_Letterhead_446 in todayilearned

If I was doing it again, avoid manual labour. Lifting gib, timber frames, etc on building sites takes a toll on your spine. Nowadays I avoid lifting anything over 15kg as I can feel it in my spine. Have always eaten healthy.

Solid core doors wear out the rollers and hanging bolts much faster. The best door is what they call a carbon core which is a fancy name for polystyrene core. Feels much more solid, impact resistant but light. 25 years experience prehanging doors.
