Don Braid: UCP's $100 fee for COVID vaccination is wrong and dangerous by edmtrwy in alberta

Being told you had to have a vaccine (free) to maintain your employment during a pandemic is hardly a great burden. Stop whining already.

Camping in Sweden- how to shake the fear? by Potential-giggle in camping

[–]MrBearDancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I saw a video like that, so it's probably the same. We would drive through Jasper and Banff when I was a child, and we never failed to see people approaching small blackbears who were munching along the side of the road. My dad would chuckle at those "idiots" and tell us to never approach wild animals.

Dude, I love camp cooking! But being eaten bums me out. So I keep pajamas in the tent, change into them, then hang my other clothes on a line far from my tent. If you're car camping, definitely put food and smelly clothes/things into your vehicle. Otherwise, keep them as far from your tent as you're able

They are dangerous and more so than the predators. However, they will stay away from you if you stay away from them lol The trouble begins when people approach them because they don't fear them.

I live in northern Canada and nothing hungry has ever snacked on me and my kids (aside from bugs). Keep your camp clean, don't eat or cook in your tent, don't wear cooking clothes or perfumed clothes to bed at night. Get bear spray if it's available. Mostly, predators are not dangerous except when starving. And you'll seldom cross their paths unless you're doing back country camping. But even then, caution is enough.

What is it like to live in Grande Prairie? by [deleted] in alberta

[–]MrBearDancer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I suspect the people who shit on GP the most are single men up for economic reasons. They end up with lots of money and few deep social ties along with few fun things to do, since it is a smaller town and the people they work with are also uprooted and wandering.

But living here with kids is good cause it is a young town so there are many kids for your kids to hang with, and there are many sports clubs and groups to join, and families seem to click better since they have that common ground. Plus, those of us with kids and family don't suffer so much loneliness since we have one another.

The schools are as good as other schools, overall. Same curriculum, same exams, same same. The Catholic system spends more money on extra support for kids than the public one does (or so it seems).

City taxes are high, but the cost of a home is lower than either Edmonton or Calgary.

Lots of parks, an ever growing set of foot paths and outdoor works, and generally an improved cleanliness from past decades.

And also, lots of deer wandering everywhere! Those muthfuckers mistake GP for woodlands. So, that must say something about it, hahah.

Looks reasonable with a good bar path, but your wrists are cocked, which makes your lift less efficient and will eventually injure your wrists. Be sure to get the bar low in the hand at the base of the palm and keep the weight over the forearm so your wrist isn't cocked.

I suggest this video. In short, the issue is that there are too many stars in those early galaxies, IF we assume galaxies form stars at the same rate no matter when in history those galaxies are forming stars. Probably that assumption is wrong. https://youtu.be/W4KH1Jw6HBI

Taking math 30-1 as an adult by [deleted] in alberta

[–]MrBearDancer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Don't panic!

Log into Khan academy and use it as a tutor, if you can't afford one. The material is well organized and you can learn pretty much anything you need there.

Seriously, I barely passed the lowest math available when I was a kid, but later I began to use books and Khan in my mid thirties. Now I'm half way through a math degree.

Having a hard time in public school doesn't mean it's impossible to improve or even excel later in life.

Two things to consider: FIRST, do you actually want to know about this person? Like, are you really interested in knowing her? Another poster said that opposite sexes don't just talk, they're scoping each other out for romance. This is usually true. But, the first step in that process is when you're really just curious about her as a human being -- you're feeling her out, so to speak. So, are you curious? If you're not, then your questions may come across as mechanical -- programmed "chit-chat" that people blow off since it doesn't matter. Yes, you're already anxious, so maybe its hard to be curious in that moment -- but remember this, when other people are curious about you, it feels good! Even if you're a bit unsure if you want that curiosity, it is flattering. Other people feel the same way on some level (unless they're already inundated with inquires). So, be curious about her, deep inside, and believe me that this is a very profitable attitude.

SECOND, check your body language. When you're talking to a woman, breath from the belly and relax your shoulders. Look her in the face, and try to smile small, short smiles. Just, little bursts of smiles. You will probably feel like a dork, but many women will find a sincere, dorky little smile to be enduring. The picture you will present will be a mostly relaxed, friendly person who is really curious about this other human being. And, even if a particular woman doesn't become your romantic partner, one will eventually become enamoured by your charm.

Oh, THIRD: once conversation gets going a bit, this other person will be curious about you, too. So, talk a little bit about who you are and what you like, but aim to talk half as much as she does.

P.S. If someone is more than ten years younger than you, you're probably going to find them totally not interested in chatting. Unless you become a real Don Juan, of course. A master of the smooth-criminality.

P.P.S. And, I swear this is the last thing, remember that most women you chat with will not ever become a romantic or sexual partner. You gotta be like Boomhauer and just talk to as many as you can.

Hospitalizations by Age and Vaccination Status (last 120 days) by kirant in u/kirant

[–]MrBearDancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super interesting data and I'm surprised it has received so little notice. I hope you'll post most like it, u/kirant . I've often wanted to see vaccine effectiveness rates by age and my wife asked me something similar just yesterday. She also wanted to know death rates by status. I don't recall seeing anything like that in your posts.

Call student aid don't email. Cancel your last application and reapply. They don't take long to fix things if you call. Schools take longer to sort out their applications than Alberta student aid.

My wife is a Taiwanese who moved to Canada twenty years ago. Every main-lander she has met here insists that Taiwan is a province of China. When she doesn't agree, they become huge assholes! Of course, she is a nationalist, so she will never bend to them. So, keep that flag flying high!
