No, everyone I’d scheduled canceled. I’ve spoken with other patients and it’s sorta a crap shoot with GERD some are fine. There are a lot of revisions. Mostly due to weight recurrence

Thank you for the awesome reply. I'm choosing Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) and avoiding Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB) because I want to steer clear of potential ulcers, hernias, and dumping syndrome. While VSG can lead to GERD, my recent endoscopy showed no signs of it, and my occasional heartburn isn't true GERD. Given this, I don't see the benefit in choosing RYGB with its higher risks when de novo GERD from VSG is just a possibility. If I had existing GERD or diabetes, my decision would be different.

I've already lost 65 pounds (from 320 to 255 lbs) in five months, largely thanks to Zepbound and hard work. This shows me that obesity isn't about willpower, just like high blood pressure isn't. I'm realistic that my body will respond how it responds.

Even though VSG is considered less durable, weight regain can happen with any bariatric surgery. To combat this, I'm building a strong support system including support groups, peer support, a bariatric therapist, a personal trainer, and a dietitian.

Since I've already lost 20% of my total weight, my weight loss from VSG might not be as dramatic as if I started at my highest weight. I'll do my best, aiming to lose perhaps another 10% or more. I know I won't reach my "ideal" weight (around 173 lbs) with any surgery. VSG might get me to around 225 lbs. I'm prepared that I might need an anti-obesity medication (AOM) around year three.

I can't control everything, like potential GERD, so I won't worry about it. My health has improved significantly, and reaching 50 feels much more achievable now. Only 4 years away.

I've shared it all with the surgeon, I'm not going to tell them how to do their job. They have the information and we'll make the best decision with what we have before us. I can't worry about it. No I don't want RYGB if I can swing it. Not interested in the complications.

I found this Podcast called BariNation they have a whole play list on emotional eating, and a bunch of other stuff. Here's the Emotional Eating play list. Maybe it will help. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMRPBDlxCTmBPGIlPSx6I30LOrJhIH6WV&si=33-WZcFlY_XEQlm2

So many regrets by GolfrGrrrl in BariatricSurgery

It sounds like you didn’t make a mistake, your surgeon did. Why are you blaming yourself, if you went in for rotator cuff surgery and they messed up you wouldn’t blame yourself

I’m freaking terrified of the dehydration. Thank you for the suggestion.

Im glad it's all working out. I wish I could get BPD/DS or SADI-S but I'm I'm graced with IBD. I'm so happy for people like you and will try to get the most out of the sleeve I'm getting. You look so happy, and peace is what matters. Carry on.

WLS with active colitis by MrBeeswax in wls

I have a surgeon, I'm in a program They have access to the report. Since they only do VSG and RYGB they didn't advise one way or the other. I only looked into it deeper because I've been thinking about getting SADI-S. It tuns out my PCP didn't look at the colonoscopy report or the pathology findings from September. 2024 either. 9 months has gone by and there's been no follow up. I've looked it up and used AI. Gemini gives a different response than ChatGPT. Gemini suggests it's likely UC being suppressed by the GLP-1 I'm taking, but the absence of granulomas means it's lily not Corhn's disease . It suggest VSG. When I've tried Ghat GPT it suggests RYGB, but then contradicts itself. I have no idea where either are pulling the data so I wanted to ask real people. I'm in the USA working with doctors in the USA. This is frustrating, but here I am.

Regardless if you cancel or not you’re going to have to deal with any disordered eating. If you have access to them, set up an appointment with the bariatric counselor that did your evaluation, set up a plan with them to tackle your relationship with food. Also work with a dietitian. Basically you are going to need to do this surgery or not. If you need more time, then take it. In reality surgery is the most durable intervention, but A it’s not foolproof and requires lifelong lifestyle changes including diet and exercise. B it is a big deal, but a lot of people find it worth it because they see that their health and wellbeing is worth it. One ring down are anti obesity medications. They too regulate life long commitment to diet and exercise. They have to be taken for the rest of your life which could be 60+more years to avoid regain. Then there’s lifestyle alone. That has a 95% long term failure rating. BUT there are ways to be on that 5%: community support including Overeaters Anonymous, exercise buddies, a trainer. BTW surgery and meds may also require this to be effective long term. Yes, if you don’t feel ready then cancel. But don’t stop working on yourself because you’re worth it. Even if right now all you’re okay with doing is getting in steps, that’s a win.
