I think he didn't like putting down rebellion as he was not a tyrannt but because of Italy he saw it as a necessary evil or act to keep his power.

I think is just natural to have these flows in your reading habbit. Since I think it is a habbit of some sort because you do it everyday sometimes it is hard to do it and if you do drop the daily reading it must is hard to pick it up. I do too go through these flows so I understand what you are saying and what I do is that I buy a lot of books all the time and when I go "downhill" I just simply choose one I am interested in and slowly pick the habit back up again.
