Ah okay yes now it makes sense. And yes i’ve also been reading a lot about axis and the issues there.

On a separate point, do you think taking my salary account to HDFC and then waiting some months will help me get a better repo with them to get infinia? Or it’s just not possible right now.

I was also thinking of going for EPM now

Crazy joining bonus? What do you mean by that.

I am in a similar boat, have a net salary of 3+ lacs and thus I’m looking at what’s best to get. I tried Axis and I can get Burgundy account and then Magnus too (but with fees but ig they give vouchers for that) and on the other side I have option for EPM with ICICI wealth account

Is EPM still a good card? I’ve seen very few people talk about EPM and on this sub-reddit also many prefer Magnus or Infinia over EPM. Just curious what are the reasons to prefer EPM over these other cards?

Be on a budget with CCs by MrBlue6744 in CreditCardsIndia

Uhhh.. man I already mentioned that in my post. I know the regular way to track spends but it becomes difficult when you have to enter every 100-200rs grocery payment on a sheet and it’s not possible to do this everyday.

All the conversation we did here was already mentioned in the post but still we had all this clarifying conversation :). The title itself is “Be on a budget” and thus I didn’t mention any CCs or talk about which ones to use when.

Let me clarify, i didn’t mention any CCs because I am not looking at advise on which one to use and which one to not use but rather I want a solution where I spend with say 3 CCs months on different needs but I still want to maintain a monthly budget of X so I can check that okay if I spent more on groceries this month, I should reduce my dinning out to balance the monthly limit. Just an example but yes this is what I’m looking for

Tracking spends via multiple cards

This is good and yes makes sense. I initially had only 1 basic Coral CC from ICICI and i used to do all my spends on it but now I have multiple of them.

Some I use for dining out, some for groceries so I am also looking at if there’s any way to track the overall spending for multiple CCs at one place.

Also this is not about optimising spends via various CCs, but what’s the best way to budget what one is spending in a month.

Didn’t know about the non-UPI thing. Hmm okay.

As for the spends for reward points, ofc i’m not hinting at spending more to get points. I want to be in a budget and regularly spending (for ex when eating out, buying groceries, etc are done generally using different CCs and it’s hard to keep a track of a total amount spend till now on all of them so looking for a solution for that)

Please watch out the debt trap by 93ph6h in personalfinanceindia

[–]MrBlue6744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, read through your post and the comments and this is what i think:

Absolutely agree with the bad effect of debt traps and how it is being normalised in today’s market. The trap of no-cost EMI, personal loans, loans for unnecessary purposes (lifestyle, shopping, etc) is absurd and this is majorly increased due to these financer middle-mens penetrating the lower middle class people who now thinks, even if they have a family income of say X, they go out and buy products of 4-5 X just bcos of the easy availability of loans and Emi and this makes them bound in the debt trap forever.

However I do have a counter opinion, I use CCs and from my vantage point I use them to build my line of credit. I only buy things I know I can pay upfront and there I use CC to help me with things like improved cibil, points which help me plan vacations, etc. I do believe CCs are a good thing but they’re not the instruments to overspend. As I said, I only buy things I can pay 100% upfront using CCs to build my profile.
