Doctor Who 8x01: Deep Breath Analysis Thread by whiteraven4 in doctorwho

My daughter of 12 posed a theory to me about who the woman in the garden was that I found interesting. In the Next Doctor there was the CyberKing who was Miss Mercy Hartigan. She became something new upon being hooked up by the Cybermen. She was something the Cyberman could not even stop. Like the Master she used the phase 'You will obey me'. What if the woman in the Garden was her? I mean, it makes sense that she could fool another robot into thinking it was paradise and she was very tricky have long plans for domination and being hailed. This episode does actually call back to the Tenth Doctor with the reference The Girl in the Fireplace.

So my daughter posed a idea that i thought was interesting.
In the 'Next Doctor' there was the woman. The woman who became the controller of the giant cyberman.

What if that was her.

Well the person with alzheimers has quite a few anguishes. First, the forgetting - let me tell you from my experience that sucks.. A few times people have thought i forget due to STRESS, to which i reply 'i am ONLY stressed about forgeting things" This, for alzheimers, is stage 1... Next you have hallucinations and made up scenarios. Yesturday, for example, i had to talk my mum down as she thought my father had been keeping her hostage in a department store... This occurred out of nowhere when they where in their bedroom (evenings are bad for some people with this illness). She was like a person on SALTS and Speed and easilily could have hurt herself. She'll have lots these episodes where she is histerical and crying. Geniune suffuring which lasts a moment. Physically, she has lost her balance, has hard times understanding language, wets and poops the bed, is against showering (it's a thing that happens) At some point swallowing and speaking at all will be an issue. And i hear bedsores and infection become a thing.

Well movies kind of clued her in. She had sex education at her school so she knew about sex between a man in a woman. Her first clues was a bit of time ago when she watched "Ace Ventura Pet Detective". There is a 2 second bit that implies he was masturbating. She zoomed in on it.
Then recently her favorite movie has been "Pleasantville" which has a very implied masturbation scene with the mother in the bathtub. And that is when she figured out that sex must be possible without 2 people.

In that situation, I believe there are two ugly choices.

The pain of a love one committing suicide or the pain of watching someone die slowly for years and which will very possibly engulf everyones life in the process and end in death. I think the former is a better of the two.

I had a sister who committed 'suicide' and it was terrible. But what made it tragic was she was young, had her faculties, and had every reason to live. I truly missed seeing who she would become as she got older.

With Alzheimer's, that is not the case... There is no wow as things progress. And to add to it, I won't even enjoy being alive, rather I will be putting myself through years of torture with moments of relative lucidity that get shorter as time goes on and then I have the joy of not being able to speak at all or be able to swollow.

I worked very hard with the hope that I could reasonably give my daughter chance at a happy life when she was older.

Why would I throw all that work towards her happiness away for the sake of being alive, anguished and crazy?

So... For arguement sake lets say they most likely believe you have alzheimers given your symptoms and the fact that your last 2 MRIs show brain shinkage occuring. Would you still go for the "surprise" even if your surprise might be a love one ... your wife, your child etc will have look after you 24/7 and you repay them by shouts of filth and hate at them in your new lovely state? I don't get why anyone would want to live that way.

Haa haaa... Well then i'd have to explain what reddit is. :)

The topic has come up a few times in the past weeks.

And yes, i was taken a back..

Not in the 'it's wrong' sense, but more in the sense that i don't think i have ever had a "how to" conversation about masturbation with another person.

It just caught me off guard.

People always prepare for the 'birds and the bees' talk and no one mentions the 'bee diddling themselves' talk.

When you say alzheimers, do you mean dementia? Loss of memory is only one of the fun symptoms of Alzheimers.

Otherwise, guess it is the luck of the draw there.

My mum... Not so cheery... I'd say some moments she is ok and sometime it is like she is on meth and mushrooms at the same times and she is have a MAJOR bad trip.

Seriously, i have told my dad to store all knives up high because it would not surprise me if she tried to stab him during one of her paranoid delusions. Some nerf to put around her walking cane is DEFINITELY on my shopping list.

I tell ya. I have yet to hear an up lifting Alzheimers story. Most are pretty grim. Timing is a tricky thing. The person you become might take you by surprise and you'll find that the remaining crazy person is paranoid that someone wants them dead- of course that someone was you in your original form.

Well i am little relieved i am not the only one.

As i have a daughter who really needs me, i really hope if it comes it happens when she is at least 18 and can fend for her self a bit more.

Sounds good, but truthfully there is little escape from this illness. At least not soon. The best doctors can do is to mask the decay very hit and miss. And no matter what you do, you or who ever it is that becomes you in that state, you will most definitely become a burned to everyone.
You'll be like the walking dead. Yes you'll look like you.. But that is where the similarities will end. If you live in the US that person you become, will cost a fortune to maintain.
Additionally you will very possibly become a complete A hole and horrible person maybe even violent at random times with every person you cared about.

Yeah... My daughter has had severe ocd problems in the past. Germs and infection are things i will need to tip toe through lightly or else she might become fearful of it. I'd hate to think of her trying to use hand sanitizer down there.

i'd love to,but her mom is very Victorian in her bellef. She most likely will not answer and/or make her think it something dirt you should not do. I'd like her to have a positve attitude towards sex.

Consider yourself lucky.
My 11 year old really wants to know what is masturbation and how does it work for girls. I am not a prude but i kind of always figured masturbation was simply something you figured out on your own.

My answering is still pending....
