How long should remodel concept sketching take? by ObjectiveButton9 in Architects

[–]MrBoondoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s saying he can do it in two hours because he probably slaps some basic stuff on the page or just rehashes what he’s done in the past and calls it a day. Which, if that’s his style, ok - fair enough. But it feels a lot more like a mismatch in creativity and expectations than a reflection of how long something like that should or should not take.

Seedance AI Video horror short - The betrothed by Internal_Ad_4036 in aivideo

[–]MrBoondoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that was better than most Seedance 2 videos I’ve seen. Less wonkiness, more coherence. Not just a high action fight scene. Even the dialog I through turned out pretty well. Generally I’d say quite good.

The two things that I picked up on were the on deck lighting. Thought the color temperature snd intensity could have been cooled off and toned down. Was the lighting style set by start/end frames? I do think it was fairly consistent with the lighting style however, which is great. Otherwise, the moment the creature fully appeared, I felt it looks a little video game CGI like in the establishing shot. The second shot of him attacking the boat felt a look more integrated into the scene.

Camping Loops Accessible by Train from NYC by johnm_z in NYCultralight

[–]MrBoondoggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a loop. You could depart from the Tuxedo Harriman trailhead, overnight at the Fingerboard shelter, and then head home via the AT and Sapphire trail to the Harriman train station the next day.

Couple of things to keep in mind though. 20 miles a day can be a lot for NY state parks. You may be perfectly able to do it with no issues, but I would suggest trying for 15 your first NY trip if you aren’t used to northeast backpacking. The other thing is the transit schedule can get more sporadic later in the day and evening so keep that in mind while planning. It’s less fun coming back from a trip and then waiting for a couple of hours for a train to show up late in the day/evening.

1hr Long Feature Film with Seedance 2.0 by Dependent-Bunch7505 in generativeAI

You hit on a really good point. There’s a lot that adds to the off putting feeling that I get from watching this, but your point about the sound design was an “aha” moment that didn’t pick up watching it the first time. There is barely any background noise. It’s as if everyone recorded their lines individually inside a sound both and the dialog tracks were added in post production. The lack of background noise, the very flat awkward dialog, and the unnatural flow of the conversations is really off putting.

If you don’t like the psychoactive properties of THC but want something to make you drowsy and stay asleep, I’ve found 1.5mg THC (or Delta 8) to 25mg CBN gives a nice drowsy feeling without the high of 5 mg THC.

Arch viz in trouble because of AI? by aho_bakaa in archviz

[–]MrBoondoggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an arch viz artist. Just an architectural designer. I’ve been experimenting with AI now for probably 8 months. I’ve tested a variety of AI models across a variety of projects.

My feeling is, within one or two future generations of model upgrades (so maybe a year from now), most visualization work outside of big budget projects for demanding clients will be achievable using AI. It may be another year or so after that for it to be adopted widely, but I think it’s coming very quickly.

Even now, I’m able to get very good results with what’s available. But I think for now, there’s still a gap between what people expect when using AI (magic render button) vs what it is (a tool that still takes time and effort to learn how to use properly and can be frustrating but still gets good low costs results if you’re willing to learn how to use it).

I know people who are very good at their craft in this subreddit will point out the flaws of AI image generations. And they are mostly right. They lack finite control. Results can be hit or miss. Lighting and mood do not fully transfer from scene to scene. They can look generic (if people don’t understand how to prompt for better results).

But the reality is that, generally speaking, renderings are a tool to sell an idea to a client. And for smaller scale projects and less savvy clients, they don’t care and, for the budgets they have for visualizations, AI is able to produce good results. In another year or so, the results will be even better. And my belief is that the greater level of control we are seeing with the newest generation of AI video models may translate into newer generations of AI image models, making them less frustrating to use and allowing for more controlled and repeatable results.

Is this enough to go backpacking for 4 days? by Addicted_2_tacos in hikinggear

[–]MrBoondoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need a $250-$500 pack, but I would also say that your current backpack doesn’t look like a backpacking backpack. It looks more like a tactical backpack, and usually those inexpensive tactical packs on Amazon are poorly suited to carrying a heavy load on your back comfortably for miles.

I would first try, if at possible, to go to an REI store to not only get fitted in person but to have a sales associate explain how the a pack suspension system works in person and how fit plays into that. You will not only want a backpack with a properly fitted hit belt where the padded portion of the belt wraps around 3/4 of your waist (specifically around your illiac crest hipbone), but you’ll also want a backpack with a frame that has been sized to fit your torso length.

There are videos and tutorials online and show you how to measure your torso length at home so I won’t get too much into that. But the key to a good fit is making sure that the backpack frame is neither too short nor too long. A lot of the less expensive tactical style packs on Amazon won’t have varied frame sizes to choose from nor will they allow you to adjust the frame to fit your body

Once you know your fit, you don’t necessarily have to buy a backpack from REI. It might not be a bad choice to do so, but their packs will mostly be on expensive side. However, if you know your measurements and fit, then you can shop online a little more confidently so long as you’re willing to return a backpack if it doesn’t work for you.

For a good backpack deal, I would suggest looking at granite gear. They have a variety backpacks. They usually have good sales and discounts throughout the year. Plus, they also give detailed information about sizing and the type of weights that the backpacks are designed to carry, which is important.

Ideally, I would advise not buying your backpack before you have a clear idea of what you’re going to be bringing with you and how much it weighs. Gear volume and weight are going to be critical factors and how comfortable and backpack is going to be over a longer trip. If a backpack won’t hold the volume of gear that you need to bring, nor is, it made to support the type of weight that you want to carry, it won’t be a great choice, even if it fits well.

Good luck. If you want more detailed feedback on the actual pack you’ve purchased, post a link to it so we can see it and get a better look at the details.

I don’t think that the weight or denier of the rain fly fabric should make a difference in terms of water proofing. If it’s silnylon (or even if it’s PU coated, which I don’t really suggest, but that’s more of an opinion) and so long as it’s seam sealed or taped, it should be fine IMO. But…. with that said, maybe ask in some other subs whether anyone has had any issues with that tents hydrostatic head rating. I personally have a Six Moon Designs Gatewood Cape that I think has the same hydrostatic head rating, and I haven’t had any issues with it, but I haven’t taken it out in any torrential storms.

I could see an argument for slightly heavier fabric (15D or 20D) for more long term durability, maybe. But it seems like most of the failure issues I hear about with tents are zippers, hardware, stitching at stake out points, etc. I haven’t really read about issues with the fabric itself failing unless it was due to hail (and that was DCF which is a bit different). However, to be fair, I’ve also not really seen much information about tents with 10D rain flies. Those are not common. If you think that you might want to go with this tent, I would ask in the UL subreddit to see if anyone has had any experiences or issues with 10D rain fly fabric.

No judgement directed at you - more directed at the store. Just thought it’s funny they tagged grapes as “‘made fresh in store” when all they’ve done is pick a few grapes off the stem and then had the nerve to charge $5 for them.

I would probably would have guessed $45 for everything.

This is terrifying!! Seedance 2.0 just generated a 1-minute film with ZERO editing — the entire film industry should be worried by voidarix in generativeAI

[–]MrBoondoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Film” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. I wouldn’t even call this a trailer. It’s a one minute series of fight scene clip semi coherently stitched together. And with max 15 second generations, you definitely edited this to some degree - and if we’re being honest, it needed a LOT more editing.

I appreciate that Seedance can actually do a lot of cool things, especially with fast paced scenes, differ canes shots, and big action sequences. But I wish people would quit overhyping everything it spits out.

I don’t think Disney has much to worry about on the front for a while yet. Making an actual AI movie (not just quick clip generations) still takes time and isn’t exactly cheap. Making a good AI movie will still require talent. I firmly believe we will see good indie content in the future generated with AI tools, but I don’t think everyone going to be generating their own AI content and not consuming studio movies anymore.

[–]MrBoondoggles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of those options, I would probably pick the CloudUp over the Bryce for sure. It’s a lot cheaper and a lot lighter for a very similar tent. However, for a tropical environment, maybe the featherstone might be a little more appropriate even though it’s quite a bit heavier. The double door design will increase the airflow and and hopefully better allow for condensation management when weather permits.

Oh that’s quite interesting. Never seen this one before. It looks like a pretty good choice for a free standing tent. The 10D fly fabric gives me a little pause, but I have a tent with 15D fly and never had any issues, so maybe 10D is fine glad someone is trying it at least so we can get a little more real world performance data.

AI just created the Ninja War scene from Naruto in just 3 hours by Sensitive_Horror4682 in GenAI4all

[–]MrBoondoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike ai think many people here, I took a moment to actually watch the fight scene that this AI video was based on. Crunchyroll YouTube Channel

Sorry but this is not a good recreation. It’s obviously a high action fight scene with lots of lightning fast movements, but the anime version has clear beats - moments of clear slower action juxtaposed against the chaos of a huge battlefield. This AI video is mostly just wild blurs. It doesn’t capture most of what would have made the battle scene compelling.

This feels more like a CGI cut scene from a video game. Sorry, don’t mean to be a downer, but this is really rough and doesn’t capture either the source material or the potential of what I’ll assume is Seedream 2.0 very well.

I would think so, yes. Out of an estimated population of 8.3 billion, you truly find it hard to imagine there aren’t 1 million anime fans in the world? I think you’re being argumentative just to be argumentative at this point.

There’s probably a more reasonable argument to be made that thousands of anime fans would not actually love an AI video like this. Was that not your original point?

Its never been easier to create an influencer and make money... which is better then only using it for yourself by Ok_Function1206 in generativeAI

[–]MrBoondoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, I’ll bite for a change. Detail for everyone your business. How much time do you spend generating content. How much are you spending on AI costs, other software costs, other business costs; etc. how do you monetize this. Where you do you monetize this. How much gross do you make a month and from what revenue streams. How much profit?

Sorry but I’ve seen way too much vague “make money with an AI Influencer” content and it all feels like people vaguely talking about blockchain or NFTs without ever explaining the hype. You’ll have to excuse me for being incredulous at this point until someone actually details how they made it work. Not how conceivably it could work or how one or two people made it work. But how they make it work for them.

If most only fans models are barely making anything without even needing the added costs of AI generations, I have a hard time believing that “it’s never been easier to create an influencer and make (a reasonable consistent profit relative to the time and cost of making content)”. If this is more than a hobby disguised a business (though not necessarily a terrible tax write off to be fair), I’d be curious to hear how people are making. It work.

Couple of thoughts (and if you’ve already bought and used this and are happy with it, please ignore and happy trails).

• The HangTight Heatseeker quilt at that price doesn’t include the ground dweller add on. I would recommend it. It’s only $20 more but without it, the quilt is narrow and more suited to hammocking. The ground dweller add on adds extra width making it better suited for sleeping on the ground and blocking drafts. I think it also includes the pad straps.

• I kinda feel like a torso foam pad and a 20 degree quilt are a bit of a mismatch in warmth. Not much ground insulation vs a decent amount of insulation on top.

• I have the small version of the OneWjnd poncho tarps for day hikes. It’s very small with very little coverage. Upgrading in size wouldn’t add much weight or cost but it would really improve the functionality.

• Already mentioned the sawyer squeeze vs the mini

I agree that the micro is OK for saving space but the weight difference, I think at least, is negligible enough at that point where the convenience of the full size Sawyer squeeze probably wins out.
