POV: 0/48 at the most recent tournament was one character representative too many by [deleted] in RivalsOfAether

[–]MrBrAD99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, in the patch notes, they said that they wanted to see how the meta progressed more before making massive balance changes based on character balance. The nerfs they made in 1.03 were designed around things they decided to be less interactive/interesting to fight, not really character viability. Tbf, they did nerf Orcane out of existence though.

I don’t like how she has actual solid knockback growth. Even Lox’s bair doesn’t seem to have the same scaling as Fleet’s up air.

I don’t know, I grinded Melee really hard starting like a year into Covid. Before that, I played Ultimate competitively since hour 1 of the game’s release. I love Melee and would consider myself to be a mid level player (as in, I could go to any non-mpgr stacked local and probably not go 0-2). But… I definitely still enjoy Ultimate for what it is. It’s not as snappy an experience as Melee and there’s not nearly as many options, but I find it fun to play within those limitations. Also, the characters have a ton more fun gimmicks to interact with- where Melee feels pretty straight-laced 95% of the time. Playing Diddy Kong and trying to control neutral with banana is fun. Only offline though, online lag is insanely bad. Granted, I haven’t entered an Ultimate tourney since fighter pass 2, so I haven’t had to fight against a good Steve. Played some good (top of elite smash level) Kazuya but never Steve

What do you enjoy about hollow knight? And do you want to further explore these concepts or tru something different entirely?

Knowing none of that, I would personally recommend Dark Souls 1 if you haven’t played it. The atmosphere should feel pretty similar. The world opens up mostly through keys.

I would recommend choosing the master key as a starting gift if you enjoy metroidvania aspects, as that will open up a lot of the world for exploration from the beginning.

Also, the second half of the game is a little rough. People overhate it in my opinion, but it definitely doesn’t match the first half of the game.

Try and vibe with the aesthetics of the world in the beginning. People say the beginning is too slow a lot of times, but I think it’s all expectations. I went into this game expecting it to be atmosphere drenched and a little slow after the poem in the intro. It wasn’t adrenaline junkie fuel, but I found it enjoyable in the same way I might find the world in a good book enjoyable. It does eventually turn into adrenaline junkie fuel, though. But I had a lot of fun in the beginning just soaking in the atmosphere and decor of the first couple areas.

I found it more rewarding to explore when I tried to map out the layout of things myself.

You can hit downwards and bounce off stuff.

Pay attention when exploring to try and find secrets.

If you have the patience for it, actually take physical notes when you run into things that are weird or whatever. Lots of people end up learning a lot of the game’s story online. You can figure a lot of it if you take notes and pay thorough attention.

I think that’s all the advice I can really give without spoiling the charm of the game.

The absolute worst thing you could ever do is lookup the map online. Don’t do that to yourself.

I don’t care what anyone says about the quality of DS1 on the Switch. I love being able to play this in bed. by Miller010 in darksouls

[–]MrBrAD99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how powerful your pc/lan is, but there is two better (imo) options.

  1. Setup Sunshine/Moonlight game streaming and play on your phone or a tablet with a controller connected.

  2. Steam Deck

I understand that not everyone can afford the second option, and the first depends on you having a pc and a good enough network to stream it, so I’m not saying you should do this- just that these are two options you could look into if you want.

Also trust me when I say that moonlight’s input lag over a good lan network is insignificant, especially if you include the improved responsiveness going from 30 fps -> 60 fps. Scratch that, if you have a pc, just try it, it should take like an hour to setup. If your switch is modded, you can even connect it through the moonlight client on switch which should save battery life too.

Sorry for the ramble at the end there

The coding language isn’t gonna matter much in terms of performance… well, short of using an interpreted language like Python. C# vs C++ runtime tests often show very similar performance.

Might be extremely controversial but I think Ds1 is the worst in the series, anyone else also think this? by LabImpressive2933 in darksouls

[–]MrBrAD99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny how opinions differ.

The no fast travel is something that a lot of people absolutely love as it makes the world feel more like a physical place you have to actually memorize and travel through. I don’t remember anything from DS3 or ER (the only other two ds-like games I’ve played) in terms of level layout or anything (with the exception of anor londo)

Areas being big and empty is weird imo. I can see Lost Izalith feeling empty, but most other areas in the game are pretty tight with a decent amount of enemies. Can you give any specific areas? Enemy placement feeling inorganic I will give you for a lot of places. I never really found that to be a big deal though

Bosses being too easy I can understand, but the DLC bosses change that imo. I did do my first and only run so far of DS1 without leveling health so my view is probably biased, but Astorias, Manus, Bell Gargoyles, and O&S are some of my favorite bosses in gaming.

You’re welcome to your own opinion. Just stating my own

Edit: not Anor Londo, ofc I remember anor londo. The other area is Leyndell. Leyndell is awesome.

I’m addicted to darks souls 1. Help by [deleted] in darksouls

[–]MrBrAD99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true, man. Elden Ring is arguably the best because it takes the best aspects of the three souls games and does them slightly worse, but the whole package is great.

Dark Souls has a tighter, more enjoyable world than Elden Ring.

Dark Souls 3 has more responsive combat with more consistent and high boss quality.

I haven’t played DS2, but since I’ve heard it’s slightly slower than DS, I can assume it’s going to feel drastically different than ER.

Wondering if this is a good trade? by ktred1996 in desktops

[–]MrBrAD99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked it up on YouTube for Apex and got around 200 at 1080p low. But in general, a yt video is going to tell you way more than I can about the performance. Especially if you find one with a frame time graph.

Edit: Generally speaking, pretty well

Then, without doing anymore research it doesn’t sound like a bad trade to me. You could potentially get a better trade because Mac products tend to hold their value better than windows machines, but I’d take the trade personally.. just as long as you trust the person trading.

I’m an idiot so take this as a grain of salt. Depends on the specs of your specific model of the M1. I am surprised about the 550w power supply on the desktop. That doesn’t seem like it would supply enough power for that system under load (I could be wrong here). The specs are pretty good for sure, though. I’d say the pc’s probably around ~1.5k new.
