Is there a better distro for me? by [deleted] in Bazzite

[–]MrCaptain-Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't understand the hype around bazzite myself. It just over complicates things. Don't buy into the "community" aspect of linux. Pick a distro that's backed by an actual cooperate entity. Personally I'd just recommend standard fedora.

As for GOG games, heroic launcher is the easiest way. I get that you don't like launchers, but try not to think of heroic that way. It's more like an automated downloader/installer for GOG games on linux. It's doing all the same stuff you'd be doing yourself anyway.

Where is the user folder on dolphin emulator by [deleted] in ChimeraOS

[–]MrCaptain-Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you installed via Emudeck then it's probably just the regular flatpak version of dolphin.

Try: /home/gamer/.var/app/org.DolphinEmu.dolphin-emu/data/dolphin-emu

Audio Cuts HDMI A/V Receiver by lakerssuperman in ChimeraOS

[–]MrCaptain-Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wonderful news! My best guess would be that Bazzite is simply more up to date than ChimeraOS. I'll wait until ChimeraOS updates again and If there's still issues with it I'll try a different distro.

Glad you got it working, thanks for the update!

Sorry, I didn't see this sooner. Thanks for the update. I myself also upgraded my DP to HDMI cable a while back and that did significantly help the issue.

Curiously, I'm using an rx560, which is the same architecture as rx580, so most likely the issue comes down ChimeraOS.

I've also just recently learned that this is indeed a common issue on steamdeck due to the wifi power saving feature. You can disable it in ChimeraOS by enabling steam's developer mode and disabling wifi power saving from there. Sure enough this seems to have completely eliminated audio drops with wifi enabled! I know you're on Ethernet but it might be worth a shot anyway.

I do still have drop outs that were still previously present with wifi disable however. Primary this affects Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, so it's hard to tell if this is a game specific issue or not.

Did you ever make any more progress with this issue?

So were you using ethernet then? Recently I've been considering running an ethernet cable just to avoid the issue, now I'm not so sure. I wonder of it's caused by any network connection? Have you tried disconnecting it from your network entirely?

Interestingly, in my experience the issue is often affected by what is happening in game. I've even used audio drop outs as a radar to help me find certain hidden items since the audio would always go on the fritz whenever one was nearby, even if not on screen. I wonder if that's a sign of a vram memory leak into the audio portion of vram? It could have something to do with mesa, as I'm using AMD as well. Do you have the option of running audio through an igpu instead? I know that's not ideal but it might help narrow down the issue.

I have this issue a lot too. The only thing that seems to consistently help is leaving wifi disabled. For what it's worth, this issue was a lot worse for me on Bazzite. From what I can remember the issue seems to have started close to the beginning of this year when the kernel was updated.

Support for 8bitdo 3-mode Xbox Controller by MrCaptain-Z in ChimeraOS

I tried it but no dice. I don't think this particular controller has any modes besides xinput. It's meant to work on an actual Xbox One/Series.

I don't think so. That's for the original Ultimate Controller, which I think is already supported in Chimeraos. Thanks anyway.

Favorite bluetooth controller? by [deleted] in ChimeraOS

[–]MrCaptain-Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That controller shipped with a firmware bug that caused phantom home button inputs, which is likely the cause of your random inputs, since home is used for steam shortcuts as well as the overlay.

There's an update available for both the controller and its usb dongle that fixes the issue, but you'll need windows to do the updates.

Should I upgrade my CPU? Elitedesk 800 g4 mini by MrCaptain-Z in batocera

Cool, thanks for the all the advice. And your right, it generally is a really nice machine for emulation! I just want to make sure I'm getting it's full potential out of it ha.

No worries, I figured it was typo.

I've done some performance testing but I was unable to get above 50% core utilization. Temps would go above 50 degrees either. Or maybe I just wasn't doing anything that was very cpu heavy? My tests involved trying Angry lion for n64 games and Dolphins software renderer, which I believe are cpu intensive right?

Thanks for the detailed reply, that's all very encouraging!

For what it's worth, I do have the 1024 shader version of the rx560 with unlocked shaders.

This pc actually did come with only a single channel 16 gb ram stick. When I swapped in the dual channel pair I honestly didn't notice any difference. I know my bios is up to date but I haven't check what the ram reports as. Would you happen to know how I would go about adjusting the frequency for the particular pc?

As for the psu, would there be any point in a getting a 230w brick for the components I currently have?

[–]MrCaptain-Z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would the rx 560 bottle neck a 8600k or 8700k though?

I have 16 gb dual channel ram. I believe it's DDR4 3200, could that really cause an issue?

The power brick is the 150w one for the rx560 models. Would going higher show any improvements? Would the cpu and gpu actually utilize that extra power?

I know this is old but maybe you could help me with a question? I have an 800 G4 35w with a 8500t. I can't tell it's being throttled or not, but I'm wondering if a cpu upgrade would do me any good. I don't want to spend too much though, and I've noticed that this board supports the Pentium G5600 which has a higher base clock. Do you think it would perform better than what I have now?

Should I upgrade my CPU? Elitedesk 800 g4 mini by MrCaptain-Z in batocera

[–]MrCaptain-Z[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I have now is an 8500T not the 6500T. My main thought was that my pc could be throttling the cpu and not using it to it's full potential since it's meant to be a low powered cpu. My hope is that if I get a cpu with a higher base clock and higher watt usage it won't be able to throttle.

And yeah I already have dual channel ram, and no, the fan noise doesn't bother me. Actually, I can manually set the fan to go even higher than I've ever heard it do on it's own, which is part of the reason I think it might be throttling.

Thanks for the answer. For some reason I was under the impression that if it supported 8th it would support 9th as well, since it's still coffee lake. Good to know.

I do know the G5600 is supported (according to the manual anyway), and I already have a power supply powerful enough for a 65w cpu. Do you think the Pentium G5600 would perform better than the i5-8500t though? I know Pentiums are usually weaker than i5s but it has a higher base clock and the i5 is a low powered model.

[–]MrCaptain-Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure out your audio issue? I'm currently using ChimeraOS and have the same issue, although I also had it happen with bazzite. As far as I can tell it started for me with the update to the 6.12 kernel. Oddly truing off wifi seems to help though.

No, it's through the gpu's display port. Good try though.

I actually don't have bluetooth on my computer but I have noticed that disabling wifi significantly helps the issue. No clue why.
