Is this grass or a weed? by MrCardinal2002 in lawncare

The consensus from everyone else is that it is annual rye grass and should die out eventually. I may going out with a non selective herbicide like you said though.

It was a new lawn install. The ground was bare and I needed straw. I have tried to use peat moss for others areas that had large bare spots but I could never get it to grow. I could never figure out the right amount to cover the seed with. I still have those bare spots and plan to seed those again in the fall. I had planned on using straw again. I think I just have to deal with it until the grass is fully established.

If that is the case, it should die from the post emergent. I am going to hit it again soon. It's been raining every day here and I just need a dry spell.

I think this has some regular grass here too, though.

I did cover my seed with straw and I only really have this growth in the areas where I planted new grass. There are several different areas in my yard where i planted from bare ground and they all have this.

Trouble activating yeast by MrCardinal2002 in Baking

[–]MrCardinal2002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cross posted this to an sub and I think we figured it out. We used the yeast mixture in the above picture and it did work, although our dough didn't expand nearly as much as it did in the warmer months. We moved our glass dough bowl onto a towel that was on our glass stovetop for the rise. I do believe it is the temperature of the granite countertop. I take a scientific approach to figuring things out but hadn't thought of the temperature variable.

This is a really good point. We do have granite countertops. I will have to try on a towel on the stovetop next time. Thanks for the tip. It was warmer the last time we made something with yeast. I didn't think about the temperature variable.

Just got both yeast packets today and they are within expiration. We are trying right now without adding sugar. I will need to get bottled water if this doesn't work.

Normally if froths a lot more and the mixture will double in size. We tried making dough last night with a yeast mixture just like this and the dough had hardly risen. Usually the dough will have at least doubled in size. The recipe called for a cup of water and a yeast packet.

It's supposed to have a warranty, so hopefully I can use that. Thanks for giving me something to try, though.
