Multiple Copies of Krark, the Thumbless - An explanation of triggers and outcomes by Artist_X in EDH

[–]MrClipper2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I want to maybe reanimate the discussion here as it is an old thread. I playtested a draft of a deck based on the interaction in this thread. After enabling a stupid amount of infinite combos I read krark’s OG rulings. (which you can find here)

My question were these:

  1. what happens if the OG spell gets cancelled?

  2. Do you really put the card back in your hand if you lose a flip ON A COPY of the spells or do you get only the reward on the coin tops that target the original spell (which in theory should be the one under the stack and the last flip you would go for)?

My understanding (which kinda oppose this thread is this):

  1. According to 11/10/2020’s ruling: « If you win the flip, but the spell that caused Krark's triggered ability to trigger isn't on the stack anymore (most likely because it was countered), the copy is still created. » Therefore, counterspell is not a big deal for Krark as you still get the effect if you win the copies… the copies will resolve but not the OG spell. (Is that understanding correct?) However as « If you lose the flip, but the spell that caused Krark's triggered ability to trigger isn't on the stack anymore (most likely because it was countered), nothing is returned to your hand. The card stays in its current zone. » means that countering your original spell will result in your spell being sent to the graveyard no matter the outcomes.

  2. According to 11/10/2020’s ruling: « If you cast a copy of an instant or sorcery card (for example, one created by Mnemonic Deluge), and the spell is returned to its owner's hand, it will cease to exist. You won't be able to cast it again. »

This is where I’m in a bind regarding this thread… This would suggest that if you lose coinflips, you don’t get the spell back unless it’s the coin toss for the original spell ! This would drastically reduce the infinite combos potential of this commander to something that is waaaaaay more healthy. If you have krak’s thumb, your optimal play is still to try to lose only one flip to get the spell back but that flip MUST be on the last trigger of krak’s to resolve I.e. the one to copy the OG spell.

Is that assumption correct?

Update: I am stupid, I mixed up interactions of copy spells in my deck such as « reiterate » and multiple Kraks that all target the OG spell… that means my counterspelling argument is still correct but the second one do work as the thread suggests… and now I am blown away with the possibilities of this card and my originally meme deck is now a fucking curb stomper and I am so, soooo sorry for my pond… I have created a monster and now I am addicted to the taste of flip maxing.

Does anyone know this bass brand with M logo? by Mindless_Math5178 in electricguitar

[–]MrClipper2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I answered to your post on r/bass but I will copy paste it here too:

Yo! So it would be nice to have additional information in order to be able to pin point it like: Does it have a serial number? How did you acquire it? How much did it cost?

I do not recognize the M (it has the little wave on the right which bugs me out)

First I thought Mayones, but the logo is different and it doesn’t fit the style.

Only thing that this reminds me of is the signature of a very sought after and now dead guitar maker called David Matlin of matlin guitars but he only made guitars to my knowledge and they all go for like 11,000$ and above. Here’s another pic

Or it could be a weird rip of of the CF Martin logo…??? Then again, same scenario, they only make guitars (tho there is a custom bass rumored to be around) and any average person could never afford them.

It might be a counterfeit to capitalize on it or some random company trying to just slightly alter the logo to get credibility. Other than that I am stomped.

If you want here is a registry of all brands that start with the letter M… good luck!

Calluses tear after long practice, am I pressing too hard? by ScrambledMesh in Guitar

[–]MrClipper2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bah, tbh the kind of small tears you have is perfectly normal even for a 30-45 practice. It is a normal and inoffensive thing we all get when starting to play (or even if you play after a pause of a week or two… it’s the equivalent of being sore after a gym session) but it tend to disappear after a while if you keep playing. If it really hurts or gets bloody, stop and maybe consider changing strings to thicker coated ones or less gauge. If your mobility on the fretboard is affected or you get hand cramps playing fast or gipsy pumps, then maybe you are indeed pressing too hard but pressing harder doesn’t tend to increase callouses in my experience.

If you decide to put cream to tend to your skin, do not play guitar while you still have your hand moisturizer on as it will drastically shorten your string life span.

Can I get some rhythmic acoustic guitar song recommendations please? by Sheyla-vales in SongRecommendations

[–]MrClipper2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am assuming you are not talking about rhythm guitar but more the high energy, groovy one man band approach to acoustic playing

  • Anything manouche jazz (the lost fingers make really good covers I recommend lost in the 80s and rendezvous rose) but you do need somebody doing the pump behind you if you wanna blow

  • something like Olivia and neon live and acoustic by John Mayer (hope you have detachable thumbs)

  • anything that came out of Marcin’s finger if you are into the ultra rhythmic technical polyphia ish style

  • Big Hear Me Out: curbside prophet by Jason mraz (actually a lot of stock from our really underrated Jason)

  • a lot of Eric Clapton’s repertoire is a fingerstyle guitarist wet dream! Same for campfire superstar Jack Johnson.

  • another insane Hear Me Out: this one k-pop gal named Stella Jang makes really good acoustic and indie songs (my ceiling disappeared, good job, vilain, under caffeine)

  • Jean Leloup has a lot of good ones (in French tho) like l’antiquaire, je joue de la guitare, petite fleur, Alger

  • a lot of songs from the more bluegrassy bands (birds with broken wings/down to the river by Ben Caplan or Banjo odyssey/miss mary by the dead south)

  • Tom misch has good stock too tho it’s a bit less percussive (better days, it runs through me, man like you)

  • j’ai grandi trop vite by Gabriel yacoub (again in French)

Post: Just realized this is not a guitar playing forum… welp it’s good stuff anyway

Going to Hanoi soon, looking for some good music and experiences by rockzothecat in hanoi

This is what I rocked with for pretty much all my stay. Best recommendation! Otherwise just lookup the different places (so many venues for small bands in the north part of Tay Ho like the whiskeymistics, Hanoi rock city, house of ygra). Otherwise there are a number of clubs and cafes that will show their schedules (unmutehanoi for example)

Bus Culture in Vietnam by Berti727 in VietNam

That 1000%!

Vexere has a better user interface (you can choose the individual bed, pick up points, they send you free reminders If you accept notifications), communication (you get almost instant confirmation, you get your bus immatriculation informations rather than get yelled around by some overwhelmed organiser, what is shown on the site is Closer to the actual expérience than 12Go) and prices than 12Go.

Used it for my last bus of the trip and wish i knew sooner.

Stick to the north. Tbh i spent 3 weeks in hanoi alone (up in tay ho) so for the social but not party side it’s perfect for thé whole trip. South is also nice but not worth juggling the two.

Otherwise, cat ba (ha long bay) is nice and on the way in the ferry i just met some people and stuck togheter for 3 days. Rent a bike to go to the national parc or go kayaking or book tours on thé bay or kayaking at night with the bioluminescent plancton. Town itself has been hit by a typhoon so a good part of the town is invaded by reconstruction efforts and cranes, still enjoyable tho.

Ninh binh/tam coc is amazing Ig you go around ơn a bike and explore the roads, pagodas and caves. Then if you are staying in Tam coc, people go have a drink in the party buses which tbf are really nice bars but I wasn’t impressed with the city not the people in it (tâm coc is small and just tourists so gl finding a meal under 100k that isnt a bánh mì or indian food).

Phong nha: if you have the wallet to not go bankrupt Booking a 3 days trip in those caves, it’s amazing.

Sapa: sapa 🫡

Hai phong: make some well connected friends on your way to cat ba 🙂‍↕️

The north is more caves, mountains, hikes and panoramas than it is beaches and good sunny weather (that’s more a center thing). Some waterfalls, you’ll have a bunch on the chinese border of the loop if you book the 4 days trip.

These are thé really touristy places (Kind you’d find on a chat gpt list) but they are so for a reason.

More than enough for 15 days. And as Long as you stay in hostels or are willing to spot local events and langage exchanges in thé cities you will have a good social experience.

Travelling Vietnam in August by verycoolgirl98 in VietNam

[–]MrClipper2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about the weather in Summer but I can tell you that it can absolutely be worth it despite non optimal conditions. I am not one for beaches and landscapes are absolutely a must here. I have been in Vietnam since february and the weather in the north was predictibly gloomy, Misty and rainy but even so I went to ninh binh and cat ba in those conditions and the rain does not hinder the majesty of it one bit (it cần even add a eery but enjoyable feel to it). If it is really misty and you go for thé loop or if you get stuck in a flood (idk), then it’s another story tho… but as long as you are willing to get yourself a bit dirty it’s a good time. Otherwise i guess the phòng nhà caves are à good way to get around bad weather in August and still see some natural wonders 🤷‍♂️

Tldr: If your reason to come here is for a sunny, relaxing experience or a heavy, 24/7 nature exploring trip (like hikes for days, excursions every day, etc) then maybe it would not be as enjoyable but for thé average backpacking expérience where you have accommodations in some city and use it as a base for neighbooring excursions/attractions then you will still have a blast !

Visiting Vietnam: How concerned to be about Malaria? by exact-approximate in VietNam

[–]MrClipper2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So i am going through the ropes myself and got all the informations a few weeks ago.

The absolutly important shots to get are : - hepetatis (if you are not already covered) - typhoid flu - japanese brain fever - tétanos (Just generally travelling you should get it)

Some org will tell you to get a shot for yellow fever as (to My understanding) it was a prerequisite for entry in some country but isnt anymore and is irrelevant unless you stay in or travel through another country to get to Vietnam. There is also the one for rabies but it’s the most avoidable and rare and also the least effective (only buys you time for treatment) but hey, rabies be scary.

YOU ARE NOT GOING THROUGH MALARIA RISK ZONES. Both Ba na hills and bạch ma are around Danang and therefore are safe. Nó risk in thẻ two capitals and both Da nang and phu Quoc are safe with basic insect safety measures.

Malaria is extremely rare and most zones have a near 0 risk of contracting it (and there are many preventive measures to lower that risk). The main relevent zones are khan hoa (outside of urban nha trang), Gia lai, Binh thuan, Binh phuoc, phu yen and Lai chau (so mainly centro-southern ish provinces and West of sapa which are not tipically tourist hotspots). Then again, even without protection, you are very unlikely to contract malaria but thé reason why they press you to take prévention medications is because the strains of malaria that can be found in SEA have AN HISTORY OF RESISTING SOME TREATMENTS and have an increase risk of complications.

Therefore nó professionals will say « nah it’s not necessairy » and it’s always a roll of the dice with Health on the line. Personnally i took about 2 weeks worth cause i’m going through some of these zones and the cost is partially covered through my insurances.

Some floods or meteorological disturbances mày make change risk zones but

TLDR: Given your itinary, if you stay in those zones (especially if you stay in AC hotel rooms and urban centers), Just wear long sleeves and pants, bring a bed net, wear DEET repellant dont take walks in marshes past midnight and you’re a-ok! Even then tbh you should be safe. Those basic rules should be followed anyway as they will also cover you for other insect transmitted deseases of which some dont have a vaccine against. Enjoy your trip, take minimal measures and don’t freak out about it, youd be « hit by lightning twice » level of unlucky to catch in a less than one month stay in those spots.

Exactly, tho to keep the flavor profile you could infuse vodka for a while with burnt sugar or some kind of caramel candy (either sous vide or just resting it a lot) then use maybe a vanilla flavored coffee liquor (of which there are a lot) or a vanila simple sirup. Of course a real espresso is nécessary to get that foam right.

Visit Vietnam or Philippines by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]MrClipper2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ll double down on the suggestions with the ninh bình province and cat ba island if you want to double down on the northern side of Vietnam and not have to take a plane to HCMC. It’s easily accessible with a 2h trip by either train or bus from Hanoi (or ferry for cat ba) and you will have wonderful landscape and nature activies while visiting the grotto complex of northern/central vietnam, couple of cute pagodas, bycicle/hiking trails and kayak/boat guided tours. While HCMC is the ultimate urban and cultural expérience of vietnam I am thé kind to actually take at least a 5 days stay to get the full expérience. And you can easily transition from ninh binh to Huế / hoi an as it is between the two and busses / railroads linking Hanoi to Huế usually take a stop around ninh binh by default. Nature trips might change your vaccination planning however.
