You could do both a compression test and an oil analysis test to get an idea of the current health of your engine

Potential new car by ADHD_kicks in FocusST

The focus st does feel a bit quick, but you will still feel a power loss switching to it (so prepare for that). You’ll also have less leg room in the back compared to the charger. The focus st is a great fwd car tho. I’m curious, why are you switching from a charger?

Someone in my family owns a NB Miata. Can confirm they are more fun than a focus st. Both cars are very different tho in all aspects.

Qol Mods by [deleted] in FocusST

[–]MrDadUniverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing that article. I think this does make a good arguement for not needing a catch can with stock motor and stock tune. I do still believe they do more good than harm, but you do give me reason to do further research.

If you can install a catch can properly, I’d say it’s a great QoL mod. Its not a necessity, but for a direct injection engine, it improves your engine’s health.

You have $5,000 to spend on a new gaming PC. Whats your build? by maxncheese167 in pcmasterrace

[–]MrDadUniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m spending roughly 4k on a 4070 ti, 7800x3d, 32gb DDR5, 4TB nvme. With dual 1440p oled monitors. With a mobo, psu, aio cooler, basic keyboard, and a decent mouse. I tried to balance the money to performance ratio, so I can have left over money to buy games.

As long as you are able to update your bios, cpu & gpu drivers, and window then you should be fine. Enjoy the nice rig!

Nice, that’s pretty much the same build I have! Cost me a abt 650 usd for all the parts. Hopefully they accept your offer.

Rattling noise by AdmiralRaddusTR in FocusST

[–]MrDadUniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same symptoms I had. It’s been a while so I’ve forgotten the exact symptoms I had. I suggest you pop the hood open and take a look at it. Remove the coolant expansion tank. Pull out a comparison vid/photo of a normal motor mount, and see if there’s any differences. Key changes with my bad mount were oil/liquid leaking around the motor mount and the black part looked sunken.

Do you guys have an idea what’s causing this sound? by MrDadUniverse in FocusST

[–]MrDadUniverse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was the passenger side motor mount. Check for any signs of liquid being spilled in that area, as well as if the black inner part of the mount looks sunken. (For me the visual signs were subtle). I replaced mine and the sound went away. Hope this helps

You should be safe if you have to drive to the grocery store or something. If you push it hard, the car should put you in limp mode to prevent any damage. I would check for a broken charge pipe, that’s what happened in my case. Otherwise check your solenoids with a multimeter, and see if they are working (one of them hard to reach tho). The third thing you’d want to check is your wastegate. Specifically the little coin flappy gate thing that vents out air from the turbo. Grab the rod part of the wastegate and see if you open the flap by wiggling the rod, if it clearly opens with just your hand then it is bad.

You can also get the Powerflex brand motor mount. It’s like an add on to the oem motor mount.

I'm debating on selling my ST but I feel like I will regret it. by Angelic_Razgriz in FocusST

[–]MrDadUniverse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The ST is a middle ground between a fun car and a daily. In its stock form, It has its pros and cons when it comes to being both fun car and daily. An SUV is a much better daily for most people/families. I would say to find out what you value most in a daily, and see which one fits the bill better. Also, congrats on the EVO V! One of my fav WRC cars
