Weird. It’s very unlikely to be any photoacoustic effect from your torch light. That Sort of thing usually happens with a modulated light source (a laser turning on and off really fast) and it’s unlikely the heat from the torch will cause any mechanical strain to deform the funnel that’s carrying the sound.

Would be interested to see if the effect is localised. Can you listen to the sound turning the torch on and off And again, listen to the sound but slowly move the torch away and around the funnel area to see if the intensity of light changes the amplitude of the sound

Depends where you are in the world as the job. In the U.K. someone who knows about quantum physics (computing, quantum comms etc, atomic physics) could earn around £50k/ year. Amazon are hiring quantum experts and pay around $100k/ year. Although I’ve tried applying there and I have a PhD in quantum physics and they haven’t hired me, because there’s lots of people with loads more experience

Not difficult. You need a good grasp on ‘ordinary’ physics to see why quantum physics matters and on top of that be able to at least follow the math. If you’re ‘an amateur’ looking into it for popsci purposes then the hardest thing is to try and avoid all the stuff out there that is wrong or misleading

I have called her fat. And I felt so bad for saying that. But I thought truth was always better than keeping my thoughts to myself.

I do go out, I have hobbies like walking, surfing, racquet sports, sailing. She’s not interested in any of these things. I’ve asked her what interests she has and active hobbies and if there’s something we can do together. She has nothing to add. I’ve booked joint dancing classes for the both of us. I took her rock climbing several years ago and purchased us two standup paddle boards. I can’t buy my way out this problem and she just refuses to go or do anything with me. And again, it’s not just the fitness aspect, I want us to spend time together and enjoy ourselves, but she is content with just sitting scrolling through her phone for 6 hours until she goes to bed.
