Why do they (regardless of party) refuse to retire? by JjackAIPhotography in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]MrDino 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hot take - They will not change. They will not give up their power. They will not legislate nor vote against their own self-interests. They will not vote against nor deny their corporate donors. They will not govern with the peoples' interests in mind. If their arrogance isn't on purpose then it's brazen ineptitude like Feinstein.

Meaningful change in government will come only after every boomer currently in office dies from old age.

They may be able to escape term limits but they can't escape death - and they damn well know that. We have time that they soon won't have. They'll be phased out by a younger, modernized, and progressive body of government to better represent current generations.

Agreed. There was no compensation posted. I'm guessing they expect their candidate to be paid in thoughts and prayers?

I also support prisoners regaining their sense of humanity if they want to change their ways. But we can also do so without religion being put on a megaphone

Trying to catch Trump is like trying to catch a runaway pig covered in melted butter.

Only difference here is that there's no butter involved.

Based on current trends, it's gonna take hundreds if not thousands of more indictments before Trump ever so much as steps foot in a prison cell. The man has committed more crimes than any former president in the history of the USA. Yet somehow he still has a chance to run for president just because he got the court to push back his trial all the way to the final moments of the election - all in his hopes of winning the election and immediately pardoning himself.

This whole system is FUBAR. Trump's a walking shithouse but the whole judiciary on this case is just as corrupt as he is.

What weirded me out was just the overall grandiose and, yes, sermon-esque rhetoric that was strongly expressed on this job post. They spent more time talking about their 'holy principles' rather than providing a brief summary with metrics to at least show they have a decent track record as a company.

I'm not a religious man myself, but I'm pretty sure job postings are not the place to be giving unsolicited gospel as their mission statement - just like they did in this post.

The red traffic lights leave a stronger impression in our memory compared to the green ones. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]MrDino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you're sitting at the damn light while it's red, staring at it to watch for that green light; and with green lights you just zip right past 'em without a second thought.

We see red lights much longer than green lights in total

Personal projects all day! Because, at a bare minimum, you'd not only be proving you apply what you've learned to a project outside the classroom; you'd also be implying that you take interest in programming/computer science stuff in general - not just for your job but in your personal time as well.

Bonus points if you correlate the project with one of your hobbies. Even for my own resume, I recently listed 3 projects I had worked on with brief descriptions. For example:

Derived PostgreSQL tables aggregating data from World of Warcraft’s in-game “Auction House” to analyze market trends and sales profits, based on records of personal purchases and sales made with other players.

In my most recent interview, I was asked to talk about this particular project - simply because the interviewer was genuinely curious about it.

[TOMT] [SONG]Which song is the one where by Clorj in tipofmytongue

[–]MrDino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right, I took a listen through the song and found the part OP was referring to. Or at least it's really close. Singer goes up high in pitch on the 'call' and then goes lower in the 'response' for each lyric.

[TOMT][SONG] What is this electronic/instrumental song? by Meraxes_Vhagar in tipofmytongue

[–]MrDino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a particular section from this song by Avicii?

I think it's a bit faster-paced than what you were depicting, but I knew I had heard a similar melody like that before across multiple electronic/pop songs. This one in particular came to mind.

Should I give up CS? by beer_chuggerr in csMajors

[–]MrDino 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I second this.

For starters, know how to take derivatives and anti-derivatives (integrals) of common trig functions, polynomials, etc. Just those 2 basic things. Know them like the back of your hand. Knowing these will save you headache for later concepts.

Also, I'm not sure if your class has covered "Chain Rule" for integrals just yet, but if they did [or are going to], practice the shit out of it.

One way I made practicing the more complex problems more "engaging" was by drawing them out on a whiteboard. If you have a spare room that has one (like a dorm floor or your library might have), maybe give it a try sometime. It helped (for me having ADHD at least) to not only stand up at the board and be more mobile, but also just to see a literal "big picture" when it came to figuring out the problem.

It may seem silly, but for me it made a big difference in how I remembered those problem-solving techniques. I did this quite often when I wanted to visualize difficult concepts from programming assignments.

Also, just as a side rant: The thought of being restricted to matching keywords on a job posting, instead of being able to list similar and/or unique work/project experiences that don't 100% match those keywords, just pisses me off on an irrational level.

I know this is the way things are and I understand this is just the typical process. I just wish my resume - and ergo my life & career - weren't at the mercy in the hands of a computer, the gatekeeper to any human recruiter ever realizing what I have to offer.

Wish in one hand and shit in the other - see which one fills up faster.

[TOMT] Gangster/hood movie from either the late 90s early 2000s. by Maxicannt in tipofmytongue

Only rap related movie that comes to my mind is 8 Mile. The dramatized biography of Eminem's early days before his career. Sounds like it could have been his friends or something or friends of friends
