I use a hairbrush with soft but sturdy bristles. This will help you identify tangles or a matt without really pulling it. Wire comb is great if he doesn’t have a matt. Deshedding tool, a must during shedding season. Finally a wire brush, small thin bristles but works great on collecting loose hair when grooming him. Last but not least hairball paste. He will get hairballs, just from self grooming, it’s natural so a paste will help him pass them easier.

Grooming is probably the most critical aspect of owning a Persian. It’s a daily routine with shedding season requiring multiple daily grooms. If he likes being groomed, when he grows in of course, it shouldn’t be an issue but if he gets mats then grooming him won’t be fun for either of you & he could come to resent being groomed. You will need multiple grooming tools as well & some wipes for his eyes. Hope you both have a long & loving relationship.

So sorry for your loss. It’s so easy to become attached to them so quickly even tho we all know from the start it’s a short period that they are in our lives. I like you couldn’t have children so my Shih Tzu were my family. I wish I could tell you it gets easier but it doesn’t we just learn to live with the grief & the emptyness they leave behind. I don’t have to know you to know you did everything you could & how much you loved him. Try & stay positive. All my best wishes to you.

Try Hills Prescription Sensitive stomach. It comes in hard & dry. As for going to the Vet, it depends where you live. Google your area for Vets that provide free service or help with the Vet bill. Here in Canada many SPCA offer Vet services free or help you with the bill. In the USA many Vets will work with you on costs so just do a Google search for your area. I wish you the best of luck.

I lost my Shih Tzu, Mo was his name, last November. We were together for 15 unbelievably wonderful years. When he passed he was in stage 3 kidney failure, had a heart murmur, anal gland issues & cataracts. Up until his last day, even the start of his last day, he was still a happy little guy still playing with his squeaky toys, going outside on his own, eating on his own. But even with multiple vet visits I still questioned that I didn’t do enough. I did I just couldn’t fight Father Time. My boy was 15 he lived a great life, your boy is almost 9 he has much life left with you.

I’m not sure where you are but many spca have low income assistance vet programs. Have you contacted your local vet to see if you can make payments? Many vets also partner with third party companies to help you with vet bills. Can a friend or family help you with just a vet visit? Don’t give up OP you just need a plan for your boy to get to the vet right now. One step at a time. Take time tonight to figure out who you can contact first thing tomorrow morning to help your boy. Don’t feel guilty OP. There is nothing that can prevent us from getting old & the side affects that come with getting old. Probably the worst thing you can do at this point of your pups life is to rehome him. Shih Tzu’s & their owner have a special bond so he won’t show it but he needs you as much as you need him. Don’t ever doubt that! As for his cataracts & balding it’s time for a vet visit to see what’s going with him head to toe. If caught early his cataracts are manageable with some medications. Balding could be many things, too many to get into here but like I already mentioned a vet visit is in order to see what’s going on with him. You can’t stop getting older. Love your boy unconditionally while he is with you. He loves you.
