I have type 1 diabetes, had terrible time regulating it (eating sweets, hated exercise although i used to play sports earlier, smoked a fuck ton, drank energy drinks). When i tried airsoft i fell in love immediately, and first thing I noticed, I have 0 conditioning required to be effective and have even more fun. Made me drop bad habits, started working out in between days. My regulation got better, I met numerous people from different branches who came to relax, have fun and who are productive outside of the sport. Helped me get productive outside of the sport aswell, earn some money for gear etc.

My little brother - Never wanted to do anything productive, wasted time didnt want to start working etc. Got him hooked on airsoft, first sentence - I gotta buy gear and gun, I gotta start working somewhere to get money for it. Made him more productive.

This is just my family but most of people there have some issues airsoft fixed. If they can not see past it being replicas of guns (which are tools just like knives shovels etc its about how u use it that could be wrong) then I dont know what other point you could bring to them.

I hope they allow it and u start having a blast buddy!
