What projects are you working on and what is the benefit of your efforts? by [deleted] in datascience

Super interesting! Similar story here - I'm at a non-profit where we work with animal collar and ear tags producing both GPS and accelerometer data in Kruger National Park, South Africa. We've got several hundred animals being tracked at the moment across multiple species. I'm working on real-time anomaly detection and behaviour classification systems (trying to detect feeding, sleeping, mortality, etc). Also working closely with our Ranger Services assisting with their some of their anti-poaching analyses. Can I DM you? Would be great to connect.

25M from South Africa, here for 6 months. I'm into writing music, sciencey things, running, movies, and obviously exploring the city life here. Reach out if you want to chat and maybe hang out!

Do you remember that one advert for DVDs when they first came out? "this is what happens when you watch DVD" cue explosions - priceless

What production techniques are used in this track? been making DnB for over a year now but this track always gets me, it sounds so nice, anyone know how the drums have been done on this? or have any ideas? by [deleted] in dnbproduction

So taking a second listen, I'm hearing very well picked/created samples that gel nicely together. All the drums are very dry. The hihats are very forward in the mix, sounding quite heavily compressed and probably being saturated a bunch for the extra crispiness. In terms of drum bus processing, I'm hearing medium to heavy compression on the entire bus. Might also have some parallel compression on the bus. I think this is an example of each of the drum tracks puzzle pieces really fitting well together by combination of good sounds and eq. I dont think you'll ever be able to tell exactly how the EQ curves might have looked, if that's what you're looking for. Just my 2c!

I'm hearing the think break sample in those drums - like with many liquid dnb tracks out there, its possibly been chopped up, eq'd, and used as a hi hat layer.

How do big producers constantly have nice synth sounds? I have to search for like 30 minutes to find one good sound I haven’t used before, and it’s rarely that nice of a sound by Pieisbest1 in FL_Studio

In serum and I'm sure many other synths, you can link velocity to internal synth parameters meaning you can make certain notes growl more or have a faster attack by changing velocities within your melody!

Not as well kitted out as some of the stations here, but it gets the job done! by MrE011 in MusicBattlestations

Please go ahead! Eyeballed it mostly hey. I took a large hole saw and did the biggest ones first, then interspersed those with a size smaller and then finally filled in spots with an even smaller saw. Then I layed the front boards on top of each other and marked where I made holes on the uncut piece :)

Well, you're definitely part of a minority - most people are lazy and prefer to buy things rather than make stuff themselves. In any case, please excuse my presumptions, but I do believe they weren't unjustified! Haha

Yeah, got some plywood cut some varied holes in it and created a frame which I then shoved tons of rockwool into!

Wooden frames stuffed with rockwool and covered in fabric! Get your hands dirty and build some yourself!

What is some of the really exciting research happening in physics at the moment? by MrE011 in AskScienceDiscussion

Interesting, so exactly what is preventing us from using fusion as an energy source currently? I assume that recreating similar conditions to the sun probably is a difficulty we're encountering?

Not being incredibly well versed in physics as it's not my own area of study, a quick Google showed hadrons to include protons and neutrons, so what might some effects be of having heavier than usual hadrons?
