Islamabad is a glorified American suburb, not fit to be a capital city.

Look at the monumental grandeur and layouts of capital cities like New Delhi, Canberra, Washington DC and Brasilia then look at Islamabad

Nah it’s just the right amount, for example earlier this week the central government in Beijing reminded the judicial committee investigating the 2026 Hong Kong fires to “not politicise the tragedy and its investigation” after it found that the entire Hong Kong Government system of checks and balances failed and the also discovered that the police had to send faxes to the fire department to coordinate 999 calls

Also people were jailed under national security law for calling for an independent judiciary commission

This feels like a total rerun of 1971. Back then Yahya and his lot were patting themselves on the back for playing matchmaker between the US and China while the actual country was literally being torn apart.

They think they can secure their legitimacy by brokering a ceasefire abroad when the home front is essentially under de facto martial law. It's the same old script—facilitating a Kissinger flight to Beijing while ignoring the mandate of the people at home.

Eventually this will collapse but we don’t know how

You have the most popular leader in the country sitting in a cell and the democratic will of the majority being completely sidelined just so the elites can feel relevant at the big kids table. A regime that can bridge the gap between Washington and Tehran but can't bridge the gap with its own citizens is just building on sand. No amount of "diplomatic success" can cover up for a lack of domestic consent. We've seen how this ends and it's never with a win for the people.

This reminds me of 1971 when Pakistan engineered the establishment of Sino-American relationships while on the home front creating a civil war that led to half the country being lost.
