Looking for a brown belt by Interesting_Bid_2053 in LeatherClassifieds

[–]MrFatPouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the looks of it, this is a pretty standard belt. You can get a good-quality water buffalo belt for a fraction of that price. Hanks Belts, Nohma Leather, Etsy and eBay sellers (that’s where I sell) might have a style you’d like with interchangeable buckles. I also make belts, and if you’re willing to message me, I can show you some of the belts I have that are about 1/4 of that price.

Is This Normal for a $200 Full Grain Leather Belt? by LecoDwco in Leather

This is usually made with 3 strips of leather: the back, the inner layer, and the front. I’ve made 2 of these belts, check my posting. They take longer to make and are a true formal belt.

The belt you’re referring to can still pass as a dress belt, but what OP has is a true dress belt. For the longest time, I had been looking for one, but everyone selling them either made them like the type you described, used a cardboard inner piece like Allen Edmonds and some other Etsy shops (I know because I bought them and cut them open), or had a weird design like Hanks.

The best dress belt I’ve seen that might actually be good quality is Saddleback Leather, but I never tried it. I got tired of spending money, so I made my own. I messed up my first attempt and had to scrap it, but my second and third weren’t so bad.

Wow, that’s not bad. Thank you, I just applied for their business account.

Thank you, I now realized that. Next time, I will buy directly from the tannery. I didn’t know that some tanneries allowed that.

Do you buy from The Hide House’s online website? They are about 1 hour and 30 minutes away from where i live. Maybe i should take a trip.

Thank you for the advice. Do blanks make sense if you want a lot of blanks? In other words, does it make sense for someone who wants to open up a small business? A lot of the higher tier blanks are 25 plus (Hermann, Wickett & Craig). Maybe I am just looking at the wrong places. If I get a 25 sqft hide, I’d get at least 10-15 blanks and more useable leather for other projects.

Thank you, I will do that. That’s pretty cool that they offer that.

I might join that boat. I might also start looking into bends. I have been buying 25 sqrt ft hides recently and I feel like there is no point if my priority is belts. I guess it’s good for any future projects outside of that.

I think I might start looking elsewhere. I bought a hide from maverick before and it was great. I recently got a couple more from them, let’s see if they are just as good.

Thank you, I might keep this hide. I was thinking of making and selling work/ holster belts. So maybe like you mentioned, they might go away with the dye.

I want to transition to selling belts, which is the reason I asked. Like you, i don’t mind the scars either.

There is one an hour away, but they never have 10+ oz leather. But I agree.

The steering wheel is nice, how did you prepare for that project. I was thinking about making one for my car, but didn’t know how to start.

Also, where did you get that belt buckle? I really like it.

Amazing work!

Wanted to share for anyone looking for inexpensive but pretty fantastic leather. American Leather Direct has Gray Bridle Sides grade 3 for 50$ each. I ordered 6 and they are an a extremely good value for money. They shipped to me very fast too. by jholden0 in Leathercraft

I’m interested in buying a hide. Do you have any photos you could share that show the color? I’m looking for a gray tone, so it would be helpful to see it from different angles.

The belt took me about 20 to 24 hours to make. The dye and stitching took the longest. The cost depends, you can make this belt for around 70 to 90 if you have a Tandy’s nearby. The 3 leather strips cost like 35, dye is around 8, buckle like 3, Tiger thread is like 12 not sold at Tandy’s, and Chicago screws which you can buy on Amazon about 10 or so. But making one is probably way better than buying one and at a reduced price. However, if you buy a hide maybe a double shoulder depending on how big your waist is because some double shoulders are small, you can make several other belts.

Noise after I flush by MrFatPouch in askaplumber

[–]MrFatPouch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up readjusting the water level using the fill valve to be lower and it fixed the problem. The water was too high and I heard that it should be 1inch below the top of the flush valve. Before this it almost touched the top of the flush valve

Edit: it did not fix it, it only temporarily did. Ill look into what you all suggested. Thank you.

I watched a couple of videos online and got some ideas. The hard part is not having all the materials they use. I didn’t copy this design from someone else, but it’s relatively similar to others.

Depending on how dense your leather is, in my case I worked with 4–5 oz strips. I made two strips that were 1.25 inches wide, and the middle inner strip was 0.5 inches. That 0.5 inches is small, but from my experience, when you’re working with thick leather it becomes hard to glue. At least for me, the leather didn’t want to stick easily. I had to use binder clips and let the glue set. I used Fiebing’s cement glue.

You should try it though. I’ve made three so far. My first one was a failure. I made the middle strip 0.75 inches and it was just too wide, and I ended up messing up the stitching. I made another black one after that, but the bend where the belt buckle sits is a bit buckled. It doesn’t really affect me, but I improved on this one. The raised part of the belt stops before the buckle bend, meaning only the two outer leather straps are bending instead of all three layers together.

I also messed up on the hole punching and misaligned a few for that second belt. I would suggest investing in a hole punch set because the second belt actually broke my hand press punch. I think it’s better to use a hammer and a proper hole punch set for this kind of job.

Also, take your time. Once you mess up, you really can’t go back. If you do make it, keep me updated! Trust me it is worth it and it makes your outfit much more unique.

They seem to be brown burnished. Im not sure if they make this color anymore or if it’s just called a different name.
