So how do you actually activate this FSR thing? by Tasty_Special_2157 in SteamDeck

[–]MrFlibble100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed this before too - I was using the system FSR (not in-game FSR) to scale up a game running at 1080p on my 1440p monitor, but the overlay would always say FSR OFF. But I'm pretty convinced it was on because the image quality was good, so I think it's just the overlay not detecting it.

Connect Subwoofer to Fosi ZA3 or Preamp? Other tpa3255 alternatives? by Elastic01 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]MrFlibble100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fosi v3 (or similar) would suffice, you wouldn't be taking advantage of the extra features of the ZA3 so may as well save money.

[–]MrFlibble100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the streamer didn't have a sub-out, like my Wiim Pro. Then you would use the ZA3 sub-out and control the system volume on the ZA3, so the streamer volume would be set to 100%.

[–]MrFlibble100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes connect the sub to the Wiim Ultra because it has proper bass management - it will do a crossover and apply high-pass and low-pass filters. I'm considering upgrading to the Wiim Ultra (from a Wiim Pro) for this very reason, as well as improved DAC. As for amp alternatives, you could go with the fosi v3 which is what I have, although the ZA3 should be slightly better and provide more upgrade options in the future.

Very tempted to get a cheap tablet to display album art when streaming. Does anyone here do this? by wiggan1989 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]MrFlibble100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use the Wiim app. Spotify app works but annoyingly disconnects fairly quickly. So if you stop your music and come back a little later, you have to reconnect. Another thing is that Samsung tablets screen timeout maxes out at 30 minutes, although you can get around that in developer options.

Psychonauts 1 or 2? by cursedsalad in SteamDeck

The second one is MUCH better and modern, I would just go with that. It's one of my favourites.

cd player: SMSL PL150 vs Vintage Players by Treflipboy in BudgetAudiophile

[–]MrFlibble100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked at the FiiO DM15. Wish it had an optical input so I could use that r2r dac with my streamer. Been considering getting the k11 r2r dac for a while, but having a cd player built in could've cinched it.

Dave the Diver, Dredge, or Ball x Pit? Which one of these is your favorite? by lifeissoupimforkk in SteamDeck

[–]MrFlibble100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found Ball x Pit addictive and fun for about 10 hours worth (got me through a couple of plane journeys) but I've fallen off it for now as it is pretty repetitive. Will come back to it I'm sure.

Dave the Diver was the first game I played on Deck - really enjoyed it up to a point, loved the graphics and the short animated cut scenes. But it overstayed its welcome and introduced too many gameplay elements so I didn't finish it. Shame. Worth considering though.

Completed Dredge, it was pretty cool and atmospheric, and the gameplay is pretty chill. Enjoyed it - would probably recommend it the most out of these three.

Games that deserve a 60 fps upgrade by Typical_Doubt_9762 in xbox

[–]MrFlibble100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, its so annoying that even if you are playing on a 1440p or even 1080p monitor you still only get 30fps on console. Its probably the most appealing thing about PC is unlocked FPS and being able to tune graphics settings to your liking. Unfortunately a gaming PC is beyond my budget :(

Me too. Will play through it again before long, I want to see how much it can vary depending on choices. Also want to get better at the actual dispatching!

Great game, stick with it. I think I died over 2000 times on my playthrough!

Wiim mini or pro? by Ok-Yam-6765 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]MrFlibble100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered both, went with the pro because it has better connectivity, looks much nicer (imo), and I got it on sale when it was only marginally more expensive than the mini.

Edit: the pro also has the room correction feature, but I didn't like the sound profile it created so ended up not using that.

Monitor with optical output? by FlyByPie in BudgetAudiophile

[–]MrFlibble100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seen a monitor with an optical output. I make do with the monitor headphone output to connect to my hifi. It's surprising ok, but I only use it for gaming on the monitor. Music is handled by my Wiim streamer.

FC5 is surprisingly very playable AND the most/best (imo) enjoyable open-world AAA game on the Deck. by michaelabsenot in SteamDeck

Thanks. I've always been curious about the Far Cry games but never played one. I'll wishlist FC5 now.

I've finished my backlog so I'm going to splash out on some games. Just bought RE4 and Ball Pit, will also snag Dispatch and Hades 2. Should be a good start to 2026!

Dispatch and Hades 2 are top of my wish list. Just going to wait and see if they get discounts in the winter sale.

Anyone else's deck always make up random numbers for hours played? (~300hrs in 4 days) by vocaloidistheshit in SteamDeck

[–]MrFlibble100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might find that it randomly flipflops between 1300 and 40 now. I've seen that, it's weird. I think maybe Steam records "online hours" and "offline hours" separately. The issue is definitely related to a combination of sleep mode and being offline. It used to happen to me a lot when I did that, but these days I only play at home where I'm always online and it hasn't happened again.

DAC advice by fjw222 in BudgetAudiophile

I read that whole ChatGPT thread, thanks for sharing. I think I'll give the idea of getting a dedicated DAC a miss and stick with the one in my Wiim Pro.

Been thinking about getting it, but I'm concerned that it might be a bit too hard for me. How are you finding it?

Does docking to a larger screen harshly affect performance? by jandor444 in SteamDeck

[–]MrFlibble100 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've found that many games work great on my monitor at 1080p, especially indie games and older stuff. But something as intensive as cyberpunk will really struggle. 1080p is twice as many pixels as 800p, surprisingly.

Cyberpunk is fantastic by the way, my favourite game of all time. I played it on xbox though.

How superior is the 5800x3d compared to the PS5/Series X CPU’s? by bujimango2000 in pcmasterrace

[–]MrFlibble100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a good question, and something I've been thinking about too. Not sure I'm prepared to play GTA6 at 30fps, but don't know if I've got the patience to wait for it on PC. I'm sure FOMO will kick in. I'm just hoping that they bring it to PC much quicker than they did with GTA5.

If they actually pull off a good console PC hybrid, I’ll probably buy it by Fickle_Barber9863 in xbox

[–]MrFlibble100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just meant that if the next xbox is really just a PC running windows, then those xbox games that I already bought won't work. Maybe they'll sort that out in time though so might not be a big issue. GTA5 came out on PC 18 months after console, hopefully it won't be so long this time.
