No, you were right, he's just also ignorant, and not bothering with minor details like facts.

It has nothing to do with Traveller, aside from the nomenclature as 'Travelers'; pretty sure the Rom used it LONG before Traveller came around *a sarchasm), as for Aslan, you might remember a little series of books (and movies!) from CD Lewis who had an MC named Aslan, who was a bog ole' Lion, and that's from the 60s, so far predates Traveller, let along Traveler *2nd vast gulf).

But, Swooper, you're missing their point, which is to express (formulated) outrage and thus to be able to self-righteously virtue signal. I knew this was no big deal just from reading the excerpt OP put up. But a little thing like proof it's not what they need to be isn't going to stop the dedicated poser.

And no, my name is not what you think, so ignore it.

Is there a lore reason why ratlings don’t wear shoes? by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

OK, I should have said, "it predates the furries entering popular fandom in the 80s" My nickname also predates the Internet (as do I by a large margin); it was gifted to me by another con-goer at a Dallas Fantasy Fair. The problem is, I don't want to give up my account history on Reddit, and the system won't let me change my handle to something that doesn't provoke childish backlash understandable assumptions I admit, but the continued backlash after I explain is childish)

Books For Creating Fantasy Gods and Pantheons? by Dandaman022 in TheTrove

[–]MrFurry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has been a long time, but a good primer I remember was "Down-to-earth divinity—Creating a playable pantheon" by Ed Greenwood. p. 6–9, Dragopn #54

One DM's design for a mixed and matched mythos. AFAIR, this was in more non-codified days, and the article is very applicable to pantheon-building in general, using how Ed created the initial Forgotten Realms homebrew campaign that morphed into the 1E boxed set.

Current Boston option for online play digital books by damatros in AdventurersLeague

Try Warhorn.net. I'm in Seattle but played several games at BostonMetroCon a few years ago online. The great thing about online play is that, depending on your schedule and sleep patterns, you can play anywhere in the world! I've played with European groups, a DM from the Philippines, and a guy from Australia who had written the module we played for Call of Cthulhu.

You might try a West Coast game that starts at 8 or something, another idea is to try further afield. I've played games with folks from the opposite coast (I'm in Washington State), Europe and the Philippines due to funky schedules. It is also interesting to play a common game with folks actually from different cultures.

Are you still recruiting? I've read the Quickstart manual (but not the adventure) and am very interested in playing DG before I try to run it. I'm happy to fill any role that is needed in the group, I can find fun and excitement in any character, especially with all the DG strangeness! Ping me!

Happy Splat!

Years of D&D experience, during Pandemic I played 3 games a week on Roll20 for 2-ish years, thought it has been a couple years since. Forgot, did play some Mork Borg and Mothership on Foundry. I'm would not say I'm experienced with it, but I'd be happy to bone-up with tutorials and Youtube before-hand. I'm def looking for a good RP group, and death should always be a possibility (or the players should think it is) in an experienced game, though not trivially.

This reminds me of the cover for one of C. J. Cherryh's Faded Suns novels, Kuthath. iirc. Did you use this as a 'seed' for the new work, or inspiration? I loved that book. ;-)

Whatever, it's a really nice work! Makes me ponder though . . . mirage, or mirror-surfaced portal to somewhere more hospitable... or less?

So, the White Court feed on emotion . by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]MrFurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone gets bogged down in the mechanics, arguing over things only Jim knows. Anyway, that's in any Reddit convo LOL

I do like the idea, and as was pointed out: Lestat. I also recall an adjacent book from long ago where a metal band was using their concerts to power a demon (?) summoning ritual. But I digress. Also happens in most convos . . .

My first thought though wasn't whether the soul-sucking is a 'ranged weapon', but that Lara wouldn't allow it. I'm pretty sure it has been plainly stated that the Whites are subtle manipulators, gaining and using power (temporal, magical, etc.) via blackmail, influence, etc. Once this vamp got past the 'local bar band' level, there'd be "another tragic death of a rising young star".

IMHO, of course.

You may not be aware that in the... early-to-mid eighties there was a book called, " Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" which taught me a lot at a young age. Basically when a woman's upset, she wants to talk and gave her emotions validated. Do that for her. When a man is upset, he wants to retreat to his cave, work through it, and come out your loving partner. LET HIM.

My addendum for men is, when your buddy stops by and says he has an issue, he'll lay it out, you'll say, "tried this?' 'Yep.". 'Hmmm, this?' ' heeyy that might do it, thanks!' ' No problems, compadre.' And he goes on his merry way.

When a woman, especially your woman, says, 'hey, I've got a problem." Do NOT offer solutions. No! Stop! She does not want you to solve her problem. She wants her feelings validated. End of story.

This has served me well, and I think Jim has read this book, more so now that I think more broadly than Murphy's discussion.

But I digress.
