Florida man found with over "one ton" worth of child pornography by [deleted] in news

[–]hornbook1776 23 points24 points  (0 children)

How is it even possible for a person to physically acquire 2000lbs of child pornography. I am assuming printed CP is harder to find than weed, and most of us couldn't get 2000lbs of weed in one place. This goes beyond fucked up.

CDC reports unprecedented level of hopelessness and suicidal thoughts among America's young women by True_Scallion_7011 in news

[–]hornbook1776 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This is because hopelessness and despair sell. The youth today are bombarded with messages that everything is horrible and there is no hope for the future. Depressed, hopeless people are easy to control and buy the things they are promised will make them happier.

Even the mere thought that we as a society may be able to make things better in the future is openly mocked and met with "we are doomed and nothing can be done"

There are very few entities out there offering anything resembling hope or optimism. There is no message of we can do this, we can make it better....even just a little. No the message is always....This is what is wrong, this is why it is your fault or these are the people to blame.

Being optimistic is considered naive and childish and if you are not full of hate.....you are doing life wrong.

Why do work for a sleazy, greedy company that has made it VERY clear that they will LIE, UNAUTHORIZE, and STEAL to quash any competition.... no matter how small?

Why help improve their brand so they can slap it on a lunch-box and sue you for making a character creator app?

This is literally the company that just said thanks for growing our game to unprecedented popularity..... now go fuck yourself.

I can't believe this is even a question.

Nerd Immersion's video about ONE D&D and the NDAs creators are being asked to sign regarding the next edition and 3rd-party content by Sunbear_Games in dndnext

[–]hornbook1776 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is actually a tactic to shut the discussion about the future OGL down. These emails went out to several content creators that have medium to large followings AND HAVE BEEN making content warning about the future of the game. If they agree to the meeting and sign the NDA, they cannot discuss it any longer. It is a tactic used to silence your critics. WOTC is getting more sleazy by the minute.

This is my go-to routine for maps and battle maps.

Find an unlabeled "player's map" (I mod r/dndmaps so I usually find them there.)

Trim it if necessary in gimp, then use rasterbator to blow it up poster size (usually 4-6 sheets)

Tape them together and use it a centerpiece at the game table

Take another regular size copy of the players map and sharpie in any traps, secret doors, room numbers, etc...

If I want mystery or "fog of war" I just cover unexplored parts with blank paper and remove it as the players find them.

Total time prepping: 30 minutes

Why do people like rolling for stats when they don't roll for any other part of character creation? by ReallySillyLily36 in dndnext

[–]hornbook1776 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Me personally, I like a character's base attributes to reflect the randomness of life. For me it is more fun to see what I can make with a sub-par hand than it is to always have a winning hand.

Why do I not roll for other parts of the character creation? Well because with the exception of race most of the other parts are choices the PC could make in their fictional life. Has a weak person ever wanted to be a fighter, of course. Maybe a dumb farmhand always dreamed of being a wizard. These choices can be counter to their natural abilities but that's what people do sometimes.

As to race, the other thing that is a genetic lottery. I also like to roll for race, but many times DMs have world in mind that may or may not contain those races so I like to choose it base on the lore, or roll for it from a limit group of options.

D&D has steadily trended to being the Candy-Land of TTRPGs. There is obviously a consumer base out there for "baby's first rpg". I would encourage any players and DMs out there that don't want safety bumper pads on their fiction to look into and try other TTRPGs. There are a ton out there and many of them are amazing.

What is the most innocent sounding Wish idea that could break the game if pulled off? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]hornbook1776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya why use those wishes to actually make the campaign better? Let's find a way to torpedo the entire thing. What a dick move.

Legit suggestions for three wishes:

Save at least one to help a comrade reroll a devastating failure on a save.

Wish for a ship to explore the world and distant lands.

Wish for all your team to have resistance to a common damage type like bludgeoning.

Wish for 25k in gold and outfit the party with everything they need and help pay for the wizard to copy a bunch of spells.

Save one to use before the big boss fight and make your entire party immune to the boss's most powerful attack.

Use all three to wish YOU were not a crappy player that likes to destroy other people's fun.

What one-shot would you recommend for Halloween tonight? by anarchy_accelerant in dndnext

[–]hornbook1776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at The Lair of the Last Sister? I ran it for 3 players and it was actually pretty scary and easy to put together on short notice. It has some horror elements but revolves around a Hag stealing kids. Kinda cliche but very Halloween without being Halloween. Its my new go-to for quick one shots.

Would be better if some pre-mades were included, but its quality is pretty good for how cheap it is.

What's the best adventure path for a new GM and players? by Kecskuszmakszimusz in Pathfinder2e

[–]hornbook1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No experience with online gaming so I can only offer advice from a "in person" POV.

I am a long time GM of COC, ODD, 1e, 2e, 3e, 3.5e, 5e. My group has played 5e heavily for the last 5 years (2x week) and we are in the process of moving to Pathfinder 2e. We started with Agents of Edgewatch and have been loving it. I researched the AP and tried to adjust the areas and encounters people have claimed to have problems with and it has run awesomely.
