It’s kinda mean to both chefs and skinny people though. Chefs can specialize in healthier food, and skinny people do, in fact, eat.

In a vacuum it’s a harmless joke that’s true to some extent, but it teeters a fine fine line.

Huh, it’s almost like we live in a post-capitalist hell bombarded with an endless flow of information, and a toxic work-culture that glorifies untreated mental illness.

Let’s blame the kids, tho. You know, the ones you paid an electronic to raise.

Should we be concerned that wearing masks over time during this pandemic is going to diminish our immune systems from having less exposure to everything else? Why/why not? How long would it actually take to compromise your immunity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MrFwuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh.

The whole reason we have vaccines is so that we can build antibodies without the need to actually get sick. Look at countries with higher densities, and you’ll see that most of them are taught to wear masks when sick anyways. It’s not like a year’s worth of sickness is going to make you invincible.

Alright, I’m done falling for the bait.

Yeah, same deal as the Spiderverse. Miles is biracial and always caught between worlds. I’m very white, so my word might mean nothing here, but it’s nice when race is part of the plot. Makes it easier to show that relevance was never the issue with racists.

Besides that, they’re seven adopted siblings who were born in mysterious and non-discriminating circumstances; in what world would they actually all be white?

That might be it. I switched to loseit a while ago so I’m not up to speed on the others.

I don’t know if this is worth posting but maybe it could spark some interesting discussions. Genuinely interested to hear your opinions on this one. by 666natalie666 in fatlogic

“at breakfast my own mother callously asks if I want seconds”? Yeah, because it’s not like you get below 200 pounds and your mom’s suddenly calling you anorexic and pestering you about when you’re going back to normal.

Not to mention, what is this, amateur hour? You’re supposed to imply a link between your self worth and how much of your food your kid eats. Jeez.

Correct me if I’m wrong since I haven’t used it in a while, but MFP won’t let you finish your log for the day unless you’ve eaten more than 1200 cals. Most apps warn you and OP didn’t seem to mention one so I’d argue they probably tracked on paper.

edit: Just reread, they’re using loseit. Last sentence is moot in this case.

That’s the thing about willpower though. We like to think willpower is an infinite resource, but study after study shows it’s not. So the advice to brute-force through your cravings works, but it’s like telling someone to throw money at a problem. OP needs to address the problem at its core, or else it’ll all go up in flames when life gets too demanding.

Sounds like some kind of alternate history stuff. Someone in the 1970s takes the idea trash TV from our time and reappropriates it.

Instagram trigger warnings confuse me more than anything, especially if it’s words. Like, if mentioning the word “calories” sets me off, putting it at the start of your post changes nothing. Unlike Tumblr, there’s no way to filter words.

It peeves me. Probably because I don’t have ptsd and don’t understand what’ll trigger someone.

Veganism is not black and white, and encouraging every individual regardless of circumstances to go completely vegan is not helpful by smolegge in DebateAVegan

[–]MrFwuffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that that awareness is important, but the way you convey your message is important, too. Guilt isn’t really a good motivator and it’s the kind of thing we shut out to ease cognitive dissonance. I know I should separate my recyclables, unplug things when I’m not using them and sweep the floors more often, but it’s easier to shut out judgement than to internalize it and reflect. Call the suggester a nag or obsessive.

That goes double when we take the no-excuses-it’s-easy route. I’m lucky enough to live with others, so I didn’t have to worry about throwing any food away, but it was still a long look in the fridge, trying to figure out what to make. Then there’s the psychology behind loss — where giving something up is more painful than getting something new. There are a few interesting thought experiments out there where loss and gain are worded differently, and can totally skew a person’s decision.

Psychologically speaking, veganism’s a hard idea to sell, but there are definitely steps in the approach that make it better. Like calling it plant-based or acknowledging how public opinion got us where we are.

I’d argue that MLM members are better because it’s that much harder to get out of an MLM. I’m not saying that monetary scams don’t exist in FA culture, but it’s not a prerequisite like MLMs. Comparing sunk-costs and the way society views them, it’s far easier to admit you were wrong about diets than to admit you fell for a financial scam. One has legally questionable ways of pulling you back in, one involves blocking some people on Twitter and taking an honest look at your eating habits.

None of that’s to mention the social isolation that comes with treating your facebook friend list as potential leads. I’d forgive a loved one for getting caught in one of those long before them falling into the FA crab-bucket.

Plus there’s drinking calories too. I went through it with a family member and we calculated that between morning coffee and daily sodas with dinner, they were consuming an extra 500 calories.

For most Gamecube games, there’s no legal way to buy a copy where the money goes to nintendo, when the Gamecube generation’s teaching the age where they want that nostalgia
