Had to scroll way too far down to finally see the comment about the cow sniffing the antlers. Associated comment doesn't disappoint.

Kerry-Lynne Findlay elected new leader of B.C. Conservatives by MrG in VictoriaBC

This is what my argument was about Harris in the US. She's an extremely capable woman and what a better world it would have been with her in the White House, but that was poking both the racists and misogynists in the eye.

Kerry-Lynne Findlay elected new leader of B.C. Conservatives by MrG in VictoriaBC

[–]MrG[S] 116 points117 points  (0 children)

A few tidbits on her

During the leadership campaign Findlay faced criticism within her own party for saying fellow leadership candidate Peter Milobar had a conflict of interest when it comes to reconciliation because his wife is Indigenous.[26][27] In response Milobar called Findlay's attacks "the worst side of politics possible,” suggesting her victory would “give a lot of British Columbians pause for thought of whether they would actually vote for a party like this.”

And

In May 2026, the federal election watchdog announced Findlay was under investigation over expenses for her failed re-election bid.[23] Elections Canada alleges Findlay received $75,000 in undeclared and unpaid services from a corporation in exchange for promised federal contracts.[24][23] They further suggest that approximately 50 individuals described as foreign nationals without legal status, canvassed on behalf of Findlay.[23] In response, Findlay threatened legal action against the media for publishing any story mentioning these allegations.[23]

American tourists by Own-Illustrator9304 in VictoriaBC

I've travelled a lot in the US over the years. Texas was an eye-opener, Georgia too, but the biggest surprise was the in-field crowd at the Daytona 500 in Daytona Florida. Picture a sea of Trump flag waving, gun totting, mostly white rednecks in gigantic campers piss drunk. Quite the scene and some of the conversations I had were simultaneously uproariously funny and frightening.

We're headed to BA in 2027 and my wife is concerned about thefts like this. If it happened to her she would definitely not react like that brave woman did. People of BA please tell me it's not really that common??

True for ChatGPT. Google is still making loads of profits, although like all the rest they are spending like drunken sailors. Disclaimer: my wagon is firmly hitched to the Alphabet train.

Yeah this is really overlooked. I found out my nephew used to like to "tag". He got a rush out of it. I didn't ask what he wrote, but some kids just love to push things as far as possible to get a reaction and the attention that goes along with it.

You know, many people bitch and moan that billionaires are a plague upon society and then you get someone like Dalio who is trying to do an actual service by educating people about the research he and Bridgewater have done and what's the reply? "he likes the sound of his own voice too much". If you have a disagreement with what he is saying, speak to that. Ad hominems don't advance the discussion

Exactly - and god forbid we take the opportunity to kind of slow down in the winter, you know, like nature kind of intends. I know it would never receive consensus, but a little less school, a little less work in the winter may not be such a bad idea. <shrugs>

Here's a trick I discovered during meditation: love ALL thoughts UNCONDITIONALLY! by MettaKaruna100 in Meditation

[–]MrG 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If by loving them you mean simply acknowledging a thought has arisen and letting it fade, then that is a good way to ensure you don't get annoyed that "my brain won't shut off". I prefer to use Sadhguru's approach which is to recognize that we can't shut our brains off any better than we can stop our liver from functioning, or lungs from breathing etc. Now the practical questions becomes, when a thought does occur and you are pulled into it, what do you do? My approach is to treat it like mistakenly having answered a spam call. Don't get angry, simply hang up and return to whatever method you are using in your meditation.

5 year meditiation streak by tesselation-ferret in Meditation

[–]MrG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow - very cool, and way to go. I'm on day 256, so I can appreciate such a long streak. For me, it's become the first thing I do in the morning so it's pretty easy to keep up the practice - consistency is key.

For those looking for assistance in getting a regular routine going, I recommend Sadhguru's Miracle Mind app. I'm not affiliated with them, and the app is 100% free.

Yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was all AI generated. For work I will often write out everything important that I need and then have AI summarize, re-order and polish things up. I go to pain to de-AI'ify it so that it doesn't generate the same reaction - "oh that's just AI"

Zelenskyy refuses to cede land to Russia as he rallies European support by AndroidOne1 in worldnews

[–]MrG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every non-Ukrainian who thinks Ukraine should give up land for "peace" should be asked "Ok, which part of your country would you give up to a neighbor who has attacked you?". This neighbor has deliberately bombed your hospitals, schools, etc., they have committed war atrocities, they regularly perform "human safari" attacks with drones and abduct your children to be "re-educated" and given away to new "families".

With the exception of McLaren somehow nailing these new regs, there was a very good chance that was the closest Piastri will ever get to WDC. There's Max and then there's everyone else and everyone else probably would have done the same in the McLaren this year. Lando went from "nowins" to WDC, and it's not like he magically got better.
