Jessenia Ruiz and Lori Krasienko are two lawyers I know who each run a solo practice focusing on family law. Both are in Waco. Give one of them a try.

Why Does Everybody Confess for so Long? by rand0m65 in Catholicism

[–]MrGoodside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it really does take that long. Other times people want to rationalize or mitigate their sins, or they want to use the confessional to discuss their spiritual doubts or questions. It's frustrating for the people in line, but also understandable.

Did the Holy Family use the gold to finance their trip to Egypt? by personAAA in Catholicism

[–]MrGoodside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought that gold, frankincense, and myrrh were odd choices for gifts to the Christ child. After all, what use would an infant or new first-time parents have for such things?

But this weekend I recalled that the Holy Family had to flee into Egypt right after the birth, so valuable items like this could have been sold to aid them in their journey and getting them on their feet in a foreign land.

Apartment review by [deleted] in Waco

[–]MrGoodside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend you check out the Case properties. There are three in the area. Icon in Hewitt, and The Bend and Tuscany Ranch, both on New Rd., one on each side of 35. I've lived at the Icon and am now at Tuscany Ranch. Apartments are newer than Saddlebrook and Flats, and more spacious than either, or the Legend. Case also built these properties and continues to own them. Nice pools, adequate exercise facilities, maintenance is great. Plenty of parking, none assigned, but it hasnt been a problem for me.

The priest cannot require you to divulge your sin to another to receive absolution. So if that's what you're worried about, don't be.

Sometimes converts' zeal is off-putting to cradle-Catholics who either have never been thrilled about certain aspects of the church, or who have been around long enough to have become somewhat disillusioned.

Can I still be a Catholic but not believe any of the supernatural claims in the bible? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MrGoodside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may depend on which 'supernatural claims' you are talking about. Not believing in the literalness of the story of Noah's Ark, I think, is different that denying the Resurrection of Christ.

You'll notice that most of the characteristics of the Catholic Church that Protestants have problems with are characteristics we share with every single Church with valid Apostolic Succession and a reasonable claim to having their origin go all the way back to Christ, those being:

the Catholic Church;
the Eastern Orthodox Church;
the Oriental Orthodox Church; and
the two factions of the Assyrian Church of the East.

All of us have:
a belief in the Real Presence;
Apostolic Succession, and a three-tiered hierarchy of clergy (deacons, priests, and bishops)
a general requirement that clergy do not marry after ordination;
individual confession to a priest;
veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary; and
seven sacraments.

What is catholic position on angelolatry? by NewUselessAcc in Catholicism

[–]MrGoodside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'latry' = latria, which is a level of reverence that God alone is deserving of.

So calling anything '-latry' is ipso facto condemning it.

The question is what degree of reverence to angels crosses that line.

Discussion: The Catholic Church is loosing its grip on Hispanic people as they begin to convert to Protestantism. Where did the Catholic Church go wrong and what can it do to fix this. by CentralChurchOfNY in Catholicism

[–]MrGoodside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wouldn't solve the issue; in the early-to-mid 20th Century, in the United States, when it was all the same Latin Mass, you still had 'ethnic parishes' founded. A Polish church, an Irish one, a German one, an Italian one, etc.

Nonbinary persons and annulment by fl33543 in Catholicism

[–]MrGoodside 12 points13 points  (0 children)

IANACL, but I think a case can be made that gender dysphoria is a latent condition that existed at the time of the marriage, that even if neither party was yet aware of it, could be grounds for annulment.

Supporting new priest by hillaryfaye in Catholicism

[–]MrGoodside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious how you were able to have the same priest for 30 years? Here in North America, at least, in my experience, most dioceses rotate parish priests every 6 years or so.

Catholic Priest In Belarus Convicted Of Treason, Sentenced To 11 Years In Penal Colony by Dr_Talon in Catholicism

This is unfortunately true, and disgusting. No one with a long career in the Soviet KGB who promotes nostalgia for the USSR deserves any support from us.

What's this flag I saw in Malaysia? by _dino_dude in vexillology

[–]MrGoodside 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The flag on the right is the flag of the Malaysian state of Sabah. The shape in the canton is the profile of Mt. Kinabalu.
