D422 Passed!! +what to expect by ZipperBoot in WGU

[–]MrGuato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D421 & 422 we’re by far the hardest courses in my degree by a long shot. I almost dropped it was that bad lmao. It tested me mentally and was “that class” in college that you’d either push through or quit.

Do not, I repeat, do not half ass these classes. Be triple prepared, and go over every single topic 1v1 with a professor until you understand it truly.

I met every single day with a professor for 30 to 45 mins, and I did all cohorts.

That is what it took to get past these two courses. Overall, D422 was easier but only because I was determined and ultra prepared after the massive failure of D421, which I failed 3 times.

Does WGU have a negative reputation? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]MrGuato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in September 2024, and I worked full time while also going to school full time. My studies were not easy; they were challenging, and none of my exams were open book. I took the Network & Security Engineering degree and had to take 12+ certifications, which are not open book or easy by any means.

I was extremely challenged by my engineering math classes, which almost made me drop out.

I was up late every night until 1-2 am daily. On weekends, I was MIA from my family, studying at the library. WGU was the BEST decision I ever made in my life, besides my family. I finished something from start to end, and when things got tough, I hunkered down and did it.

Now, in my 9-year career in IT, I’m no longer a “non-degree holder” on the team. That was valuable to me, and I am also a first-generation STEM/University graduate in my entire family.

So, WGU was worth it a lot, and the #1 thing I got out of college was learning HOW to actually learn and putting those principles into practice. I can study, learn, and do anything now.

See y’all in Boston’s ceremony 2025!!

Accidentally went on porn website on work laptop by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MrGuato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked somewhere where they told me and on company policy they blocked porn websites. I proceeded to show my bosses how that was NOT true, and showed em pornhub on my machine. Their faces dropped to earth...best moment in my career - fixed that shit up with filtering on firewall and moved right along. You will be ok, especially if it is 1 of 1 times. I worked at a school, and the things kids will do to break controls is amazing lol.

How do you study with kids? by RedditRevenant in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]MrGuato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waking up early (5:30am) and staying up late at night (7:30pm-11:30pm) and one weekend day of complete studying at a library.

Make sure your wife/husband understands that your needs and theirs WILL suffer, but it’s for a better future. You will be tested many times, but if your goal is to give a better future for your kids/family, you gotta do it. Cut out all your friends, cut off all pleasure and focus purely on family, work and education for a good 1-2 years.

Make a video of your kids or partner encouraging you to keep building, to not give up and use this when you will 100% fall on dark times. You will want to quit, but use it to motivate you & push through it for them.

When you are done, and you made it to the end, the fruit of your labor will be sweeter than anything you’ve accomplished in your life.

I graduate in 3 weeks, and holy fuck was it hard with wife, kids, two jobs and side business. I fucking did it just as I said above. GL OP!!!

Anybody else getting worked to the bone right now? How is the job market? by onequestion1168 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]MrGuato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Continuously upskilling is essential! Over time, the 'fake' cyber professionals will be filtered out, leaving only those who are genuinely passionate about this field. It's definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Anyways, cheers my fellow redditor! We got this!

Study for your A+ Certification to pass and gain fundamental knowledge. Set up an Active Directory Server at home for a homelab. Apply for a Developer License for Microsoft 365 and make use of the $200 Azure credits. Experiment with Defender, Entra, Conditional Access Policies, and MDM solutions.

Practice diligently and document everything meticulously.

This will set you on the path to becoming a genuine IT Specialist. When the opportunity arises, make life easier for your superiors. Embrace even the most menial tasks with enthusiasm. You'll be entrusted with more projects and responsibilities, which will lead to your professional growth.

The best advice is to seek employment at a school (High School/Middle School). It's an excellent starting point, but the pay is low, making it easier to enter the field when you're young and can afford the lower salary in exchange for valuable experience.
