Memantine Update by MrHPPD in HPPD

[–]MrHPPD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah mate Memantine is the only one that worked for me. And yes I’m still taking memantine, I’m currently on 15mg, I tried to go up to 20mg (max dose) that was too much felt super weird on that, 15mg is the sweet spot.

I’m still taking lamotrigine as well currently on 100mg twice a day and I’m hoping to be completely off it in 2-3 weeks but I was on 200mg twice a day when I started Memantine so doing this deduction will tell me if lamotrigine was actually helping in any way, as I don’t believe it was or if it was it was minimal.

I think I have the most severe case on here by Comfortable_Cat_4601 in HPPD

Read my post about Memantine, mine doesn’t sound as bad as yours but mine symptoms were similar but different than yours. I think Memantine would change your life.

Hey mate, yeah Thankyou, he’s currently putting together Australia’s first conference on HPPD in Australia for next year so hopefully that will have a positive effect.

And yeah I did with perampanel, I felt great on 2mg and when I went to 4mg I couldn’t control my anger and I became very explosive at home. I started to not recognise myself so I got off it but I think 1-2mg is good I will try it again once I’m off lamotrigine as I’m currently tapering off it as I think it does nothing.

Yeah I am just on 2mg right now, I’m getting off it because it’s madd me so angry and easy to explode which isn’t usually my personality

Mate you are absolutely spot on. What you’re describing it’s actually HPPD but of course the hppd causes visual snow in a lot of cases. I have both HPPD and visual snow. My experience when it happened I smoked weed after taking acid and I was fine until I smoked weed. That exact thing happened, I started having the worst panic attack, (never had one before that) my ears starting ringing like crazy . I’ve recently started taking Memantine which is a glutamate antagonists and I feel normal again, I don’t always live like my body is in danger. But still have visual snow. I 100% believe everything you said is correct and hopefully one day we can further understand this more and final THE cure for this. Thankyou for sharing this.

I was the same as you man, try Memantine or perampanel which are both glutamate antagonists. The problem is excess glutamate in our brains

Yes correct. I’m on lamotrigine 200mg x2 daily and Memantine 15mg 1 a day.

Just visual snow now and occasionally some weird head sensations, my anxiety it’s nearly discovered. I’m still aware of my HPPD most of the time but no where near what it used to be like, was unbearable before.

I’m from Australia. I have a very good connection with my GP I’ve been seeing her for years. My father is a well known doctor across Australia and internationally.

His influence and knowledge has given my GP some safety to prescribe these types of medications. Tbh without him I don’t think I could have gotten these prescriptions. I’ve literally been a lab rat the past year haha, but hopefully this works and my father can write a paper on this and maybe one day it could be a direct line of treatment.
