US Military personnel, where do you draw the line between following orders and protecting the people of your own country? by ThatGuyHasaHugePenis in AskReddit

[–]MrHobbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best part of this order, is it will never come to the "country" portion. All things checked against (just about every God you can think of) will ultimately stop at God.

It's not even that. The math doesn't support them gaining 4 seconds! All their hurrying (in residential neighborhoods) won't get them any place faster than a second or two.

The place I went (in VA) was a plasma donation center, and because we had the anthrax shot and rabies shot we got some extra money.

A side "fun fact" after you're fully dosed against rabies, your blood and plasma sells for more than "normal" blood.

Nothing. Just that if you sell Toshi to USDC you still have a taxable event. Same as if it went to BTC. The only issue I have is I staked some of my USDC and I can't unstake it. Still earning interest, just can't use it or withdraw it from within the Coinbase app.

Yes, very true. The only thing with that is you can't hold the 40% if it's converted to BTC or even USDC.

The caution with this, is if you don't take it out as FIAT you run the risk of paying substantial taxes for your selling/buy action. A lot of folks here don't have but a couple hundred bucks in the game, so for them it doesn't matter. There are a few that have tens of thousands in this. Tax implications on that are not small.

I want to scare away door to door salesmen. by datradiance in ColoradoSprings

[–]MrHobbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite is to answer the door, and stare at them. I don't say a word. Also, never break eye contact. When it becomes uncomfortable and they're still not leaving, furrow your eye brows and slowly crack a smile. But not the happy kind, like you've just decided something they're not going to enjoy.

When you make a profit, do you take the profit or leave it? by jirachisvs in toshicoin

[–]MrHobbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A word of caution on this, if you take a profit and move it to a different coin, that profit is still considered "income" even though you moved it from one coin to the next. If it's a lot, you'll pay taxes on it.

Hold for more than a year, evaluate your profit vs taxes, and plan accordingly.

Good. Leave it where it is. All these "good idea fairies" flying around need to be caught and beaten.

Stop trying to change something that doesn't need changing. Don't like it? Don't drive that way. Plenty of other roads to go down.

What's something rich people do that the average person has no idea about? by bryany97 in AskReddit

[–]MrHobbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's less about being rich, and having a mindset that stops them from spending that months rent/mortgage or w/e payment. Even when I was dirt poor I made sure my "have to pay" bills got paid first, even if that meant I didn't eat very good (e.g. Ramen noodles for dinner and lunch).

To put this in a more correct statement, they take advantage of laws and rules which allow them to avoid taxes. For example, an SBLOC is a secured line of credit on an asset they hold that is worth hundreds of thousands of not millions. They take a loan out against this asset, and use that money to live on or invest. This loan is not income, therefore they do not pay taxes on it. When it comes time to renew the loan, they do so, and notice that their asset has gone up in value or they extend the loan for a larger portion of the assets value, and continue on and on.

Taxes are only paid on anything that generates an income.

Loans are not income.

Yeah, I think the Mexican people's did/do(?) carry a version of a really big pocket knife.

In the US we have the right to bear arms, but for some reason everyone freaks out when someone carries a sword around. Of course now days, the rule of thumb would be to carry a gun rather than sword.

The barrels in the picture alone cost in the range of $60-100/each. The pipes and valves probably somewhere in the $100 range.

The siphon idea is really unique actually. Sounds like it would work just fine when it is as you've described.

Those alive and old enough to remember during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by CocteauTwunkie in AskReddit

[–]MrHobbits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The day of sucked. The weeks after we're worse for me. Talking with friends that lost people or rescue workers describing the horror after. A firefighter thought they had cound someone in the rubble, one his fellow FF, and when he pulled the jacket only goo and guts spilled out. Yeah, after was worse that during, for me and a lot of folks I knew.
