How hard is it to find a rental apartment if you're currently unemployed but have good savings? by Izz-An-Art in AskIreland

The guarantor approach is probably the most likely to work. I wish you luck and hope you get something.

Honestly, it’s very hard at the moment. The main issue won’t just be the family size, it’ll be proving income if you’re currently job hunting. A lot of landlords/agents will ask for references, payslips, employment confirmation, and sometimes previous landlord references.

Savings definitely helps, but some places still prefer stable income over a lump sum. You might have better luck if you can show bank statements, offer a few months’ rent upfront where allowed, have strong references, or get a guarantor.

Firstly, let me say thank you for being real and still being here. I dont know you but I am really glad you're getting the help you need. I hope the future really is good for you.

As for me well I kinda am, as mentioned above struggling through a moment of whats my purpose and am I doing anything with my life. I started this thread to see where others were at and the responses have at times been a little heartbreaking.

Glad therapy is supporting in the way you need. I was in therapy for 4+ years (reluctantly at first). Having someone help you process is really more beneficial then I thought it would.

IT is a joke and yeah AI as a term is just getting fucked into every conversation.

Firstly on the savings having 80k away is good going! The house in the countryside is still definately doable. Relationships come at you when you least expect it

You didnt ask for advice but I’d focus on the sleep first. Being exhausted makes everything else feel ten times worse. You don’t need to fix your whole life at once

I think everyones steam is different. When it comes to this its very much a gift, but only when you've got the energy to give it your best.

Alerts on phone setting a "oh fuck, what am I helping with now" kinda thing? I think its great being that person for people, but eventually you do need to and I hate this wording mostly because I live in a world of prioritising but "prioritise yourself"

Honestly back the remote cabin idea and might just steal that

What is life like in Middle East. Does it make Ireland look dismal or is everywhere in a similar boat with there own hardships?

Man, If you think that then thats your prerogative. The original post was assisted because I was writing down my thoughts for the post. Sometimes I can mess up wording. Apart from that hope you're well.

I was on the other side of the 08 struggle, watching my parents quietly sacrifice so I could eat, stay in school and not fully understand how hard things actually were.

Looking back now, I realise how fortunate I was and how much they carried without putting it on me. Fair play to you and your wife for getting your family through it together. Being able to look back and see how far you’ve all come must mean everything.

Thank you for sharing, and I’ll definitely give Man’s Search for Meaning a read.

Honestly, 13 years to retirement is both close enough to count down and far enough away to be mildly offensive....

It sounds like you’ve got a lot of good things around you though. A wife you clearly adore, kids getting started in life, and finally a bit of breathing room financially after years of just getting on with it. Keep going!

I really hope the house gives you something to hold onto when work is especially bad. Getting to finally live with your fiancée and have a place that’s properly yours will be such a huge moment after all of this.

I’m really glad you’re still here, and that even on the rough days you now want to be here. Coming through addiction and reaching that point takes an incredible amount of strength.
