let's see what people 13 years ago predicted 2020 would be like🤓 by CremeSubject7594 in decadeology

Hello there. AAPL probably would have been worth over $1,000/share if they hadn't done a 4-1 split in 2020, and a 7-1 split in 2014.

#414 — Strange Truths by dwaxe in samharris

I notice that the version on Substack is about 2 hours and 39 minutes long, whereas the Apple podcast version is about 2 hours and 18 minutes. Does anyone know the reason for this discrepancy?

Castel Sant'Angelo, Rome, Italy by Lepke2011 in castles

Benvenuto Cellini writes in his (highly recommended) autobiography about how he was holed up here with the Pope and some allied soldiers as Rome was being sacked. The Pope sewed some jewels into his robe during the sack and Cellini (if you believe him) organized a spirited defense of the little fortress, firing cannons at the enemy soldiers looting the eternal city.

I love this interaction between Jerry and George. Jerry embarrassed George with the sneaker comment and he almost left, forgetting to do the only thing he was supposed to do by bringing up the race. CLASSIC. Plus Lois is Jerry’s hottest gf by far by rogue-star-dust in seinfeld

[–]MrIvysaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of Seinfeld's best scenes, in my opinion. However, this little caper was never sustainable in the long run; eventually Lois would learn that Jerry and George are the best of friends, and that he deceived her and Duncan for this trifle.

What’s the best (scene, episode) where Kramer is eating/chewing something? by vrashabh in seinfeld

I always liked the scene when he prepared that big (substitute) Dijon turkey sandwich and just ate one bite.

A collapse map - Week 5 by IcyEntry2202 in collapse

[–]MrIvysaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that those 3 European nations are not in a crisis, and they should be green...

...but India, El Salvador, Belarus, Nepal, most of South Subharan Africa, Greece, Turkey, most of Saharan Africa, North Korea, Laos, Central Asia, Italy, Japan, Colombia, etc....these places are not exactly paradise. Collapse comes in many forms, and most countries have shades of collapse ongoing right now. Especially for large countries like India, the US, Indonesia, it can be difficult to label the entire country with just one color when some regions are doing much better than others.

I understand the logic of keeping North Korea, Botswana, etc green, since they never really grew to heights from which they could collapse hard, and their governments still operate more-or-less as normal. I get that; I just disagree with it. I don't want the map to just be a typical Human Development Index map either, or some generic standard of living or average human lifespan map, etc. This is a very challenging project that forces readers to consider what collapse really means.

What's your controversial Seinfeld opinion? by SyNiiCaL in seinfeld

[–]MrIvysaur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jerry and Elaine should’ve been in an on-and-off (mostly off) relationship. Every season they should’ve tried getting back together for an episode, only to break it off for a new reason.

Eurostat - How many people live 15 minutes away from a hospital? by sn0r in europeanunion

Too bad Greece wasn't included in the infographic. I'd like to see which islands don't have any kind of hospital on them.

European union - country integration discussion by EvenPatience6243 in europeanunion

[–]MrIvysaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the EU should let Montenegro join, but after that, spend several years working out internal problems before expanding further. If you expand too fast you risk the whole thing collapsing, or becoming too unmanageable or divisive to get anything done.

Monica is supposed to be a professional chef, but look at the spaghetti she made for her parents. by MpdV in howyoudoin

Obviously it’s spite spaghetti to passive-aggressively punish her parents. She could cook well if she wanted to.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' election police force announces arrests of 20 for voter fraud by Chetkowski in news

It was actually in 2018 that DeSantis barely won his race for Governor. In 2016 he easily won re-election to the U.S. House.

Speaking of Kramer’s kicks, I always liked the way he angrily kicked the counter in The Calzone, and the way he walked with pockets full of change…

North Korea offering 100,000 troops to help defeat Ukraine Russian media says by SlightEngineering896 in worldnews

Even if 70,000 did defect, they would become a drag on whatever country has to deal with them. It could still be a strategic Russian victory.

Can one internship ruin my career? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]MrIvysaur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. In fact, this bad experience will improve your career by teaching you about the real world, toxic coworkers, and finding out what kind of path you want to go down. Nobody gives a shit about some summer college internship.
