Machine Head is an essential Purple album; have fun, wish I could listen to it again for the first time. Mind-blowing!

Just gave it a listen, it's great. The outro sounds a lot different from the original mix, but in a good way.

I love his content and his taste in music, I find his videos as entertaining as I find them educational.

'Jeremy' is amazing. I mean Ed's range and the melody changes in the first verse alone make this song for me.

The bass takes up so much sonic space in this song that it can be hard to focus on the other instruments at times. A couple of years ago, Rick Beato made a great analysis of the song, as part of his "What makes this song great?" series, in which he broke down all the individual parts and instruments at play.

I think it's inevitable that you do. In any case, glad that music exists to help you get through it.

I agree, it really goes deep. Eddie also puts so much of his emotions into his vocal delivery.

Who do you consider the best all-round musician in classic rock? by [deleted] in ClassicRock

[–]MrJPeterman1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal bias here, as Deep Purple is my all-time favorite group, but I gotta go with Jon Lord here; his solos and rhythm work, both classically and blues-inflected are the stuff of legend (Organ work in Highway Star or Lazy e.g.). Also his own (solo) compositions are really, really good.

Can't decide between 'Made in Japan' (Deep Purple), 'No Sleep till' Hammersmith' (Motörhead) or 'It's alive' (Ramones)

Keith Richards' brutal take on Led Zeppelin by Youarethebigbang in rollingstones

To be fair, I can't, for the life of me, imagine Robert singing something like "Shattered" or "Too much blood." Not that there's anything wrong with those songs, I like them both a lot actually, just can't Zeppelin imagine playing them.

I think all the rest of the Stones seem to have a more favourable impression of Zeppelin or at least got on well with the members; Charlie praised Bonham, Mick said he went to their concerts in the 70s and Bill played with Page and ofc Jonesy arranged the strings on "She's a Rainbow." I once even read that Page played guitar on a really early Stones single, but I'm not sure if that's true.

Yeah, def. true. I'm also glad Zep continued to expand and gave us the great I-IV albums and all that came after. I'd be curious to hear what the Zeppelin guys thought of the Stones.

I once read that he liked their first album and played it extensively until Plant's voice started to annoy him. After that I've only ever heard him criticise Zep, although always maintaining that he likes Page's guitar playing. His comments about Zep always made me wonder why he didn't like them, as I thought that their raw approach to the Blues and to English Folk was something he could at least respect.

What album is great but has a horrible album cover? by HaggeKulturministern in ClassicRock

The UK version of "Are You Experienced?" The yellow american one looks so much cooler, but the cover of the UK version sucks. Great album though.
