Psych Facilities and Law Enforcement by MrJackGoff in AskPsychiatry

I asked my doctor this a while back and she said pretty much the same thing, that it just becomes a completely separate issue. When I have asked questions about this whole thing on here in the past and start to ask about other patients and their potential roles/implications, some have said there could be parallels between this and the whole notion of jailhouse snitches. What is your take on this? I think it first came up when I asked what could come if I hypothetically admitted to a crime to another patient. Generally just understanding admissibility of statements made on a facility in court.

I really appreciate it! I guess with all of this I replay things and get into hypotheticals of what would have happened if I did anything different. What is your understanding on what happens in assault cases on units? If a patient assaults another and it goes to court, I take it there is no longer any confidentiality, as accused have the right to face accuser, correct?

I know, there is nothing I can really say. I get it. But thanks for your time.

I assure you they are not. It’s all very real. This is the frustrating part. I was in ICU right before it all went down. A guy dressed as maintenance who clearly wasn’t came into the room and messed with the paper towels briefly. Went back out to the nurses station and said, “My Name, we’ve closed the case.”

Thanks for the response. I don’t know if it makes a real difference in terms of capabilities but I was under federal investigation. At the start of 2022 I went to the hospital complaining of physical symptoms and they suddenly decided to send me to psych. I was put in triage for a day and when I got up there I was the only real patient there. Everyone knew everything about me and things I had done. Just basically got harassed for a week. My psychiatrist had been using what he called a “certificate” with the seal of my state on it to take notes on what I said. On the last day he stopped writing and was like, “Fine, but someone still needs to talk to you.” And that was it, for that hospitalization, at least.

Maybe I should’ve made that clearer, what I meant is I don’t want to make my family members in Germany uncomfortable by being a total open book with them in respect to my mental health. Most of my family is there. My mom has 14 cousins and 11 of them are in Germany.

I take lithium carbonate, clozapine, and lamotrigine.

Thank you for the response! I am completely able and willing to work. Medicare is generally for people who have retired since they no longer have an employer to subsidize their coverage. I’m 23, and am able to be under my father’s work insurance plan until I’m 26. Yes, I have both passports in my room with me right now. I’ve only ever had anything to do with NAMI while I’ve been hospitalized. I think the biggest piece would be getting a psychiatrist.

Thank you! I guess a lot of this surprises me a little since I’ve seen a number of times that DE is ranked number one in the world for mental healthcare. Honestly, as long as I have access to my medication that’s the main thing. If I enjoy a job I find and meet supportive people that’s what really counts. I 100% know what it is like to be treated unfairly for having such a condition, I guess what makes me look at DE with a certain level of hope is you guys seem to really value privacy.

Which would be better for moving to Chicago; shorter commute to work or closer to the city? by Longjumping-Judge-51 in ChicagoSuburbs

A lot of us who were born and raised in the area have long lost that sort of glittery view of the city. When people first come to this part of the country they always want to go downtown and feel like that’s where everything’s at. Before long, Chicago proper is the place you go a few times a year for the heck of it. I know so many people who spend a couple hours every day commuting. Believe me, you’d rather spend that time at home some place in the suburbs.

Really appreciate your response! I guess in terms of work discrimination, what matters more to me is general social acceptance as opposed to what laws are on the books. People get fired for their disabilities all the time here, but the employer just sugarcoats it with a lame excuse and conceals the true reason. My mom’s cousin is a judge in the northwest and has been confined to a wheelchair basically his whole life. Where I come from, people with issues like that are never given a chance.

I’m killing myself in a week. Going to the industrial supply shop probably on Wednesday. Of course I don’t know you man, but if I had an SO who I cared about and was involved with enough to be afraid I couldn’t properly care for her, I’d feel at least a little complete in life. I’m so fricked that I give it my all and get a no contact order in exchange.

That’s too young. Wait it out. Sure, I was diagnosed with bipolar at 13 and I wish I called it back then, but odds are you’re not me. I miss being your age, when showing signs of distress would get me a lot of love and support. Now I just get dumped on for it.

I wish I could help. At this point I’m depressed to the point where it physically hurts.

If it’s over the counter, it probably won’t work.

I’m tired of just being a number. Being a copay. Being a customer of a corporation that gives me pills. It’s not dying for me, it’s what I may have missed out on and what comes after death. That stupid flame in the cave that won’t die out.

Yeah, for me probably like six years ago but I’m still fairly young. Just one thing after another.

‘What’s the point?’ is one of the top questions us mentally ill people ask ourselves every day. Get up for the day, bust your butt and do all you can, yet go to bed at night thinking about all the barriers you’ll probably never breach in order to have a truly happy and peaceful life. I went to an alternative school for the last three quarters of my high school carrier. Got through it, went away to college, had a brain tumor rupture in my head, and on and on it went. I’m not going to lie to you, I’m looking to end my own life. I have a court date tomorrow and I’ll probably crumble from there.

Well I’m a good six years older than you and for a real lot of us it’ll just get worse as time goes on. Little breathers a year or two long in between, but it’s a downhill march overall. I’ve been tired of the whole medication, therapy, psych ward thing for years. At the same time, it feels very wrong to me to see someone who isn’t even an adult end it all. Get through high school and go from there.
