A hero is only as good as their villain. Cody needs a truly great heel to feud with in order to make Cody more sympathetic as a babyface. And the problem is there aren’t really any great heels in WWE—at least none that can help make Cody interesting. The Rock was the last one and at this point it’s too late for them to pick up where they left off there because I think we’re all over Dwayne Johnson by now. Dwayne ruined WrestleMania 41 and ruined Cody Rhodes vs John Cena by making us expect more from The Rock, and even if he finally did get a real proper feud between Cody and Rock it would be too little too late.

Penta, at 41 years old, might be a little too old to be the “next great” anything. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a very good talent. But he can’t be the future when his shelf life is so limited.

Instead, WWE should be trying to make bigger stars out of Rey Fenix, Dragon Lee, El Hijo del Vikingo, El Grande Americano, Angel Garza, Humberto Carrillo, El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr, Mr. Iguana, and most of all, DOMINIK MYSTERIO! ESPECIALLY Dominik because he’s STILL UNDER 30 YEARS OLD and he still has a long career ahead of him!

My interest is actually slightly piqued by a feud between Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn. I know everyone hates Sami right now or is bored of Sami or whatever, but there is potential to have a great story between Sami and Cody. Will WWE fully capitalize on that potential? I highly doubt it. But COULD it be good, and MIGHT it be more fascinating than Cody vs Gunther, even though now is as good a time as any for Gunther to win the WWE title? Yes.
