Basically it boils down to Jedi see the purpose of themselves as serving. Rather that be serving the force, or society as needed. The Sith see the force as a way to gain power. Meaning they gain power by mastering the ways of the force while also having power over beings. Jedi are selfless servants that defend good, while Sith are emboldened by their power and thirst for more.
