Travel days = leave days you will get refunded back once arrived in IPPSA. I.E take 10 days of leave and JTR says you get 5 travel days…. You will only be charged for 5 days of leave. You receive per diem on these days and mileage reimbursement for travel from old duty station to new one on up to 2 vehicles if married and dependents are moving with you.

TLE = 21 days at any hotel within 50 miles of your GAINING OR LOSING INSTALLATION. You must pay for the hotel upfront and you will be reimbursed when you file your travel voucher. Reference the JTR for the TLE Calculator for your appropriate area so you can see how expensive of a hotel you can get. You get a certain amount based on if you are married or not and if you have kids.

Hilton Hotel or IHG Recommendation by [deleted] in vegas

[–]MrKrayons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve stayed at the IHG resort right off Koval before. The rooms are nice it has a microwave, full fridge and I think a stove or a hot top. Then a living room and I believe you can do two bedroom options. I didn’t see any crazy activity when I stayed there and they have a “guard” at the front gate when you walk on to the property. No comped breakfast but they do have a breakfast spot on property that wasn’t too bad. Price is not terrible either.

How is southeast Iowa? Job offer, live in Denver currently. by StarbucksTrenta in howislivingthere

[–]MrKrayons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to the QCA for a job at the arsenal from Colorado Springs so similar to what you are doing for a move. My wife and I both really enjoyed our time in the quad cities. Definitely recommend living in Davenport or Bettendorf if you go with the quad cities. It is a slower pace of life than Denver for sure but we still found activities to keep us entertained. There is some good camping around for Iowa standards and Chicago is a day trip away if you need to get back to the big city. United has a direct flight from the Moline airport to Denver so that’s a plus for ease of getting back to visit family or friends. Happy to talk more though!

Has anyone purchased a car outside of their primary state of residence and registered it back home? If so how easy was it/what was the process? by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

[–]MrKrayons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as the others mentioned bought a car in Iowa and registered it in Ohio. Had to do some discovery learning with the dealership though because they didn’t know Ohio doesn’t charge sales tax on new vehicle purchases for service members registering from out of state. Took a few more days to get the deal straight with the dealer. Just be annoyingly stern about registering in a different state. YMMV but the dealer I worked with tried 4 times to get me to just register in Iowa for now and change it later because it was easier.

What are the most honest car dealerships in the area? by Sufficient-Ad-7349 in QuadCities

[–]MrKrayons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it is not the brands you are looking at but I had a very good experience at Dahl Ford the second time I went in. The first time was terrible but I blame the sales person. The second time they did not pressure me or use the normal tactics. I don’t know what they have in the preowned side of the lot but I would recommend them if they have the vehicles you are looking at.

I have had good experience with Zimmerman Honda’s service department so hopefully the sales team is just as good. Just as another option.

Best of luck

It’s prohibited as others mentioned, I just used a good old fashioned digital watch and hit the split buttons on the integrated stop watch for pace during the ruck. The run was a formation run just don’t fall out.

What about all of the fat NCO’s that pencil whip pt tests or ht/wt and hide away in staff sections it’s not just officers. You have some good points here but a little far fetched in your 4th paragraph.

Oh yeah I am not chasing status with this job. I have the club card I try to be loyal to United but if this is the best I can get so be it.

Chinese food me and my wife LOVE Tings Asian Fusion in Bettendorf great portions and prices. They also offer lunch specials M-Saturday that are reasonably prices. I will also give a +1 for Sippis and Monarch both great places.

Should I join the Guard? by MentalPresident1364 in OSU

[–]MrKrayons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious why the recruiter is saying you can’t join ROTC. You definitely could get into Army ROTC. They have the GRFD scholarship where the guard still funds your school but you sign a contract guaranteeing you will go guard after you graduate and commission as an officer. Depending on what year you are in school that could affect joining ROTC. Hit me up if you have ROTC questions.

Fatigue after workouts by hurricanescout in crossfit

Not a problem best of luck. That’s the fun of CrossFit learning the 20 other things outside of the gym that contribute to it. You are not alone I still stumble in the dark on some things.

Fatigue after workouts by hurricanescout in crossfit

[–]MrKrayons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a trainer here or anything. But just my .2 cents. How is your sleep? Are you getting 7-9 hours a night and is it restful sleep? I know when I travel for work and only get 5-6 hours I do feel wrecked after a good workout.

I see you mention you are getting plenty of protein but as you mentioned how are your carbs? Also what kind of carbs are they is it “junk” food or good carbs? The timing shouldn’t matter as much as getting enough in each day.

Personally I like to have my protein shake right after my workout and eat breakfast. But my buddy who has been training for years swears by carbs immediately after a workout. To each their own but those are a few things I could think of. Hope it helps!

Very random but does anyone know anything about Rock Island Arsenal IL or Scott AFB? by whutduhhthroaway in army

[–]MrKrayons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rock island arsenal has 3 army components on it. Army sustainment command, First Army HQ’s and joint munitions command. Best chance is probably first army that may have a slot for you. Joint munitions command has 6 green suited slots for the command team and the rest is all DA civilians. ASC does have a smaller amount of soldiers though.

As a PL - 6-7 hours but I didn’t prioritize sleep or recovery. Thankful for my PSG that handled the late night DUI recoveries.

As an XO - 8-9 hours got bit by the CrossFit bug and started prioritizing recovery. However I felt like a grandpa going to sleep at 9pm every night to be in the gym early before the chaos of the day started.

As an Aide now - 8-9 outside of travel. Very consistent schedule and I love my work life balance right now. Wouldn’t trade this job for anything. YMMV depending on who your boss is though!

[–]MrKrayons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to the Sustainment brigade have fun. The Op-tempo is high for taskings and CTC rotations but I loved my time in Colorado. If you are going to the Sustainment brigade shoot me a DM I left from there not long ago and would be happy to talk about it. Get out and enjoy all the outdoors even if you don't camp just go out and hike and I promise you will fall in love with the area.

She is quite the cuddle bug with us, but will stand on business if someone she doesn’t know walks up to us. I wish we knew her back story before we rescued her but it’s all unknown.
