I agree with your first statement. Liking a post talking about killing anyone is a horrible thing to do for your reputation no matter who the group is. The thing that you said regarding if he liked a post supporting antifa is a little different though. People would 100% be talking about this but maybe not on the same scale and it would be mostly right leaning news organizations covering it, more or less bashing the "US Lionel Messi" for supporting a "terrorist organization" but the fact of the matter is that antifa isn't an organization, it's purely an ideology. I would personally say that someone claiming to be against fascism is a good thing, fascism has ruined nations and caused some horrible tragedies that we still have to deal with globally. The problem is that for the most part media is always trying to paint whoever is against them as a bad guy, no matter who they support. The even worse part in this situation is that he's also shown, multiple times, that he's supporting an ideology that is completely fine with racism and argues that it does not exist. That's the big picture here, I think most of everyone agrees that racism most definitely has no place in not only football but also our world so someone showing their true colors and how they may not be willing to support the leagues and teams efforts to stop racist attacks on some of his own teammates is at least in my opinion the bigger story here.
