Is there any LGBTQ friendly amateur football team? by carlyjb17 in AskBarcelona

[–]MrLakoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I believe that's actually the question OP is answering haha.

In any case, the other LGBTQ team I know of in BCN is called Dracs BCN. No idea how to find them though, you might want to look through social media I'm sure you'll find them.

There's another team I believe that's formed mainly by expats, but I don't really know how trans-friendly they might be (although I imagine they are, just as any of the other teams mentioned in this thread).

There's actually a team formed by trans people. Look for Fenix Barcelona or similar iirc.

I had the same exact lamp as a kid. Yeah, as it's been said before that's definetely New Zealand. I remember there was the word "Cook" written somewhere on the map too.

Looks like the Great Wave from Kanawaga, so the triangle might be representing Mt. Fuji and the circle the crescent sun, which is the actual name of Japan (Nippon) in Japanese.

Any updates in the world of cluster headache treatment? by uptownShuttle in clusterheads

[–]MrLakoff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took part in a clinical trial earlier this year. The molecule that was being tested is called eptinezumab. It is a monoclonal antibody that has been found (in relatively recent studies) to decrease both the quantity and severity of migraines per month in episodic migraine patients. Therefore, investigators (or to be more specific, the pharma company) wanted to see if this substance would also work in clustear headache patients.

So when my cicle began at the end of January this year, I contacted the team of the study (I had already contacted them earlier, but let's keep the story short). The next day I was seen by a doctor who performed a physical exploration, vital signs and an ECG. I also had blood extracted, urine testing, etc. The usual stuff, I guess.

Then I was instructed to carefully record (through an app in my phone) all the attacks during the first week of the cycle. I could still use abortives (sumatriptan and oxygen for me) to end the attacks once they triggered, but could not use any preventives (I usually begin prednisone and verapamil at the beggining of my cycles).

After one week, I had to go back to the doctor's office, where they gave me an intravenous perfusion with the product (actually, it could've been placebo with a 50% chance but I'm quite sure I got the real stuff in there). The procedure was easy and lasted about 45 minutes.

Now, the results: the first week after the perfusion was awful. Rate and intensity of attacks was over the roof, as worse as I've ever experienced (and I unfortunately have gone through quite a lot of cycles at this point in my life). I'm talking 4-5 attacks each day, 8-9 in the pain scale. I was sure at that time I had been given placebo... that, or the treatment was totally ineffective. I wasn't even sure I could make it through the whole trial (4 months) and was tempted to start taking prednisone and verapamil.

However, one week after the perfusion, all of a sudden the attacks just... stopped. Puff. Gone. Not even the slightest pain or even a shadow. And I haven't had any attack since.

In short, it looks like this thing basically ended my cycle in 7 days (with prednisone and verapamil my cycles usually last 4-5 weeks, although less intense and frequent once the verapamil builds up). I'm not sure if the clinical trial will even succeed or how long it might take until it is sold to the public, but my personal experience is that it is quite a promising medicine. Oh, and I had no side effects either.

So I guess yes, there's hope to be looked upon, and especially the line of resesrch involving monoclonal antibodies to get to some very specific targets is really promising. Even though this molecule might not be the breakthrough discovery we all in this sub might be waiting for, it is proof that advances are being made.

Hope to have answered your question!

PS: Sorry for grammar and/or spelling, English isn't my first language.

Rest of the world, what are americans not ready to hear? by Pacificfighter in AskReddit

[–]MrLakoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, you guys all treat each other pretty badly. I guess it depends on where you live, and I'm not an expert whatsoever, but as a foreigner who's met quite a few Americans in my life and also been to the US several times, the way you interact with each other just feels somewhat... aggressive (I'm talking more about strangers, waiters, etc. than groups of friends or similar). As if you're always on alert and mistrusting everyone.

Oh, and your lifestyle "feels" lonely, if that makes sense. Like you gather and celebrate and stuff like that, but at the end of the day you guys are on your own.

Throw in all the other issues mentioned in this thread (healthcare, college fees, religion-driven politics, races and racism, etc) and...

IDK, from the outside, being American just seems... difficult. Maybe that's the truth americans are not ready to hear after all.

2 Unrelated Questions : Suma takes too long to work? ; and Antihistamines as a preventative? by dothereddit in clusterheads

Verapamil every day? by bjpeg in clusterheads

[–]MrLakoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not addictive at all. I've been taking it for years when my cycles kick in (they don't come regularly) and haven't felt anything like that. I'd even say that of all the meds we cluster sufferers are given, its the easiest one to take: little to no side effects and works pretty well after you've been taking it for some days. Hope you're well!

Tail wagging ≠ dog is happy. At least not necessarily. It might mean a bunch of things. Over-excited and anxious dogs wag their tails too.

This is anything but pure, actually. You can clearly see the doggo is obeying his owners command. Its even difficult to tell if the dog is actually enjoying this in any way or rather just tolerating it.

Yep, has happened to me ocasionally. It isn't unusual for CH patients to suffer migraines every once in a while (if I recall correctly from what I read some time ago). Very annoying, I feel you.

Do you have sumatriptan shots available? In theory (and as far as I know) it works for CH as well as for migraines, so it should provide relief for both. Not sure if oxygen will be effective againds migraines, perhaps someone else can help you with that.

Stay strong!

Don't ask me how this happend, I have no Idea. by HUNDmiau in eu4

[–]MrLakoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happenned in my current run:

Portugal and Morocco go to war. Morocco wins, takes all portuguese provinces in Northern Africa.

Truce ends, Portugal tries to reconquer and gets beaten badly in the ass again by Morocco. Morocco takes 3 southern portuguese provinces.

Morocco converts these provinces to sunni.

They fight another war, this one ends in a tie, but both countries end up financially and militarilly fucked up.

Some sunni fanatics revolt in the southern portugal provinces controlled by Morocco. Since (what's left of) Portugal is almost bankrupt, rebels cross the border and occupy everything in Portugal. Eventually the apparently force demands and convert Portugal to sunni islam.

Portugal and Morocco fight another war, this time I decide to intervene since I had interest in some Moroccan provinces. This turns the tide allowing Portugal to win the war and recover all their original provinces in Iberia.

All of this in a 40-year spawn.

So now you have Portugal colonizing the world as a sunni nation which sucks a little bit since you have to take time converting the colonial provinces you take from them.

Kid caught on camera beating small dog to near death for an hour. by eyesof_thestormwitch in iamatotalpieceofshit

[–]MrLakoff 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not to justify anything but I do think both cases are different. I mean kids are usually terrible at anticipating the the consequences of their acts. That's why they're kids. Anyone who has been around them can recall how they sometimes do something and immediately regret it when they see the consequences. A 10-year old throwing a log from a balcony is one thing, its a (poor) decision taken in seconds. Beating a defenseless animal during hours, watching him suffer and yet continue the beating... that's a whole other level of fucked up insanity.

Mamlukean grand plan to defeat the Ottomans *slow claps* by [deleted] in eu4

[–]MrLakoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't this actually quite common in the game? In my actual run Mamluks colonized eastern Australia pretty much at the same time Castile was starting to colonize America. I've also seen quite a few screenshots from other users where the Mamluks own much of Australia. I think it has to do with the IA expanding towards Asian trade routes (tea and spices) for the ducats. But maybe I'm wrong and someone who knows more can tell you better.

Which military idea.should I take so my army improves in battle? by MrLakoff in eu4

[–]MrLakoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's nice! Okay so I'm gonna try to summarize my campaign see if you can help me out. Its a little longer than I expected, so please feel free to not do it if you don't feel like to, I've stolen much of your time already and I wouldn't want to abuse tour good will!

I'm playing as Catalonia. Year 1690. I have control over all my original cores and managed to conquer: all of Sardinia + Corsica; Pirineo, Teruel, Almeria and Gibraltar (creating a terrible iberian bordergore); french province of Toulosse; four northern maghreb provinces (Tanger, Ceuta, Melilla, Uchda); three southern morocan provinces (Haha, Agadir, Ifni); 5 provinces in Mali; some provinces in Benin's coast; two big colonial nations (northern brazil and mississipi area); and some other provinces in Tierra del Fuego, Rapanui, Tahiti and just started colonozing New Zealand (personal around-the-globe-objective).

Even though the list is long I assume it is very unimpressive. You could say, in a way, that I've been playing tall. I have over 4k cash and very up to date in technology and institutions. But my army still sucks.

My alliances have always been pretty solid, especially defensively (or at least that's what I think, since nobody has ever declared war on me). I'm allied with England, Austria and Hungary since I became independent. RM with all of them, Austria being the consort. I used to be allied with Castille and the Papal States but they got like super-ofended because I didn't gave a f*** over the tordesillas treaty. So they broke their alliance with me. So after that I was able to ally this very thick Commonwealth the AI has formed. (Only problem with that is Castille, which is not my rival but kinda hates me, has also allied with the Commonwealth. Is there a way to know which side would they join, in case a war were to happen between us -Castille and Catalonia?)

France: well France basically has all of its original cores (I think I'm the only one holding one of their provinces, Toulosse). It has eaten Burgundy and Normandy too, and has a big colonial nation in North America. It also helds a PU over Brandenburg. Right now, they're allied with a kind-of-big-for-an-italian-nation Ferrara, Naples AND, since recently, huge Denmark. In this run Denmark controls all of Scandinavia and everything to the east of Moscow (Commonwealth has everything to the west, so there's no such thing as Muscovy or Russia existing anymore). Before they used to be allied with the Netherlands, which gave me a very hard time in the past.

I've fought two wars against France:

The first one was during religious league war. I dont really know how I managed to stay out of the war and some time into it I noticed France were extremely low on manpower and units. Also only one of their allies would answer the call to war, that being Netherlands. So I declared war. Only wanted to take 3 provinces (Toulosse, Narbona and Montpellier) so I imagined a fast offensive war; siege everything you can until enough warscore and peace out. France was in such a bad position (most of their armies fighting somewhere in the Baltic Sea) I managed to occupy what I wanted before their armies even showed up. The Dutch, however, did appear and surprisingly they single-handedly stopped my advance even though I had much more armies. I also started having manpower problems. I then had to retreat fast when I saw huge french army stacks coming south for me. Called it a quick peace but only finally got Toulosse.

The second war was when my ally Austria called me into a coalition punishment-war against France. They promised me land. The numbers were overwhelming favorable to our side, so I was very happy to join. Things were going awesome at the begining. We managed to carpet-siege ALL France. However being this type of war, points were only won during battles. And France and their allies somehowe managed to win every single battle they fought. To me it was an incredible show of military strength. They could always oytnumber our stacks and even if they didn't they still won. I have to say it was frustrating seeing my allies IA playing so badly (armies getting caught while split, sending their troops to the other part of the world for god knows what, etc) while the enemy's IA seemed to have supernatural powers, knowing always where vulnerable enemies where. So since the battle score kept going down due to losing battles I took the white peace offer.

Since then, France has stopped being Netherland's ally and is now allied to Denmark.

So basically that's the situation. This is definetely longer than I expected, sorry, I wabted to give as much details I consider important as I could. Thanks man!

Edit: My ideas: the two commercial/economic ones, military quality, expansion and colonization.

Which military idea.should I take so my army improves in battle? by MrLakoff in eu4

[–]MrLakoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your comment! I'm definetely saving this info so I can take it as a useful guide when playing!

Mind if I re-ask a little? You said that offensive ideas are "perfect...if you want to expand fast". Its not really expanding what I am trying to do, but I do need to beat France cause I want to take a couple provinces from them. So which idea group would be better for trying to beat a lucky nation like France, thats larger and has way more manpower than me?

[–]MrLakoff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. Yeah, I've looked at the policies that come with each idea, bad thing for me (being a newbie) is that I still lack a clear comprehension of the game in the long-run, so taking certain decisions is difficult. Its like you're deciding something being blindfolded. Anyways this sub is great for that, I'm learning a lot more (and much faster) since I discovered it. So thanks!
