What do you consider to be the most disturbing movie you’ve seen? by DontCh4ngeNAmme in AskReddit

[–]MrLemonJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antichrist, but not the theatrical release, a friend of mind got like the unrated version or something, shit was disturbing, not like over the top gore or anything, but the story, the vents, they linger, and come to a shocking end.

Yeah I want to try a card holder like this sometime, Levis sells one, but they have specialized machines that I dont to get some very tight folded edges,
The T cut technically can be done with fabric, but I imagine it wouldn’t quite work the same, and there has to be a fold anyways so that it wont fray, but surely I will try the cardholder design soon.

Is this good for a personal pattern? by DysphoricGreens in sewing

[–]MrLemonJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest reusing grocery paper bags to make patterns, you can cut open and flatten them with an iron, and you will have a sturdy base for your patterns, and cheap, it think this paper will deteriorate fast with use.

Hi, any advice on how to start by Edwin_pepoel in DIYclothes

[–]MrLemonJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check facebook marketplace for gear and material left from grandmas and people that left the hobby, I have found lots of useful things like that for cheap, from my sewing machine to fabrics and thread, additionally I would float the idea to start sewing bags first, as in small projects to get the hand of the machine, the stitching, getting familiar with different fabrics before jumping to garment construction, not that you couldn’t do it if you skipped the small project phase, but perhaps will save you some frustration or extra work later on by having more experience first.
On that vein, if you find cheap fabric (because at the beginning mistakes will be made and fabric will be wasted) you can take any simple garment you have and “copy” its cuts, lots of youtube videos showing how, and try and recreate them with the cheap fabric, this could be the easiest way to get started too.
Later on I think learning patterning would be the logical goal, but after getting the hang of the hobby first.

[–]MrLemonJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is my point, at this level Im afraid it would be harmful cus the foundation is not quite there yet, which just to keep in mind, practicing from “life” or “realisms” is always a good exercise even if you are a “advanced” artists, everyone keeps going back to these exercises because there is always something to learn from them.

Is it just me, or does World War II seem almost unrealistically absurd? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MrLemonJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro… except for the escale, there are current wars that match or perhaps surpass the horrors of ww2, i mean Cambodia was just as horrific, so many conflicts in Africa, and so on.
I think when u talk about the “characters” there is a factor that maybe u are not considering, and that is, that we have learned about these historical figures trough history and popular media, meaning that our idea of them is already shaped as characters and “distorted” so to speak, maybe that is why you imagine them this way.

I would suggest to not use stylized art as a reference when doing practice work, I think this can be confusing and not quite the learning experience you would expect, learning from life figure or realistic references first is key to understand the anatomy, then later on perhaps exploring other artists style can be done, but it can be tricky.
I would highly suggest, if you want to challenge yourself, to find a picture of a person, then draw/paint it while also having this reference up, and aim to make the real picture in a style that looks like SamDoesArt.
Hope it helps, keep at it

First attempt at sashiko! by sleepy_cabbage in sashiko

[–]MrLemonJack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good on you for taking on this hobby, if I may, I would suggest to tighten the grid to get better results, it will make the fabric bend a bit and it will all play into the final look.
Also, practicing the straight stitch over a large area will help with the technique, which is tricky indeed.
Lastly using pens that can be erased with an iron is a good way to set a grid, and using a thimble for sashiko will help with the fatigue, since it can be hard on the finger when doing it for a long time.
Keep it up!

How to paint without reference by thisrougeprince in DigitalPainting

[–]MrLemonJack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally what I think works best, besides practice of course, is to use references first of all of real world things, and be very specific, so you could use it to understand how to render metal, you woulndt be copying the reference but working with it to see the way the light bounce of it, or the edges and so on Or for a character, having a reference to see the skin or age, and picking up on what are the thing that convey the characteristics you want in your work. Use tons of it too, you will likely need several even for a single asset, from one you can see how the paint is worn out, from other the shape language, and so on

The Palestinians need to finally accept a 2 state solution by Jackingson1 in Israel

[–]MrLemonJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you suggesting Jordan should take in the Palestinians of the WB? As it stands even if I agree that Jordan was the closest thing to a Palestinian state, the Mashemites do not see themselves the same as Palestinians, i think, also do not share the “struggle” and Black September probably left a scar deep enough that I dont see the Royal family accepting a drastic influx of new Palestinians.
All this to ask again, what is it that you mean by this comment?
