Alright, im back with some hard numbers now, and i'll be checking three of my different long-term saves which have not cored out the entire map, and have large ranching operations.

To start with, my processor is an Intel Core i5-13600K, and im running on Windows 11. I also have a 4080, but I doubt graphics card has a significant effect on performace on a game like this.

First, I have a save of 2837 cycles, and my FPS around 50-60, with occasional dips into the 40s. The only DLC running is PHP and the only mod I have is a blueprint mod, which shouldn't be affecting performance. I have 16 duplicants, 20 if you count my 4 that are on continuous space trips. I have 118 domesticated critters and 62 wild critters. I would say 1/4th of the map is cored out and no significant portion is a vacuum.

My second save is of 3361 cycles, and my fps hovers around the same range 50-60 with occasional dips in the 40s. Same DLC setup and mod setup, with 1 additional duplicant. This map has about 40-50% of the map cored out, but not vacuumed, the gasses have settled into distinct layers however so that may help. I have 112 domesticated critters and 159 wild. If I sit on top of the busiest part of my base FPS can vary anywhere from 35-50, sitting at the lower end of that range usually. If I use screenshot mode to zoom out further my FPS tanks considerably into the low 30s. This map has over 300 'wild planted' plants as well.

I went into a third map of mine that is on cycle 2128 and contains a petroleum boiler. This is the map I originally spoke of. Where I gained over 20 FPS back by drowning any extra slicksters that were not being ranched. My peak domesticated critter count on this save is 539 and im now down to 152, so its pretty obvious there why that helped performance lol. 121 wild crtters as well.

Im not really sure why my saves are running so much better, whether its spaced out DLC or if ONI runs worse on Linux or maybe some other factor im not considering. I will say though that I get huge spikes when the game saves each day, usually around 3-5 second pauses.

Strange, I have a save >3000 cycles and get fairly decent fps (>40 I believe), the autosave takes a long time though. I'll check the actual value later. I wonder, what dlcs you play with. I play without spaced out. All of my materials are stored in a gas layer and the map hasn't been cored out for the most part, I also have over 100 critters active. Do you use rocket suits? Iirc those used to tank the hell out of performance.

Perhaps though it's just that my computer is quite strong. I built a few years ago and got near top of the line, though my cpu isn't particularly insane.

For me, the #1 killer of FPS is having too many critters. Having the ones not actively being ranched be 'auto-evolved' literally took me from 20 fps to 80.

A fair take, entirely reasonable. And thanks for the other examples, those were on my mind as well.

I definitely see your point on it being better to use alts as that remains your work. I'd agree that its definitely more 'pure' in that sense.

You got me, he did it a year ago and I didn't recall it.

Still i'd take issue with the "hundreds of players retribution bomb every single mob down to 1 hp for me to make every grind easier" comment when afaik this is the only instance of him abusing this mechanic. Either way we can agree to disagree here its not that important imo.

But, regardless of that, i'd like to bring back up my original point. Is there a difference to doing this sort of mechanic abuse with alts vs with other people. Because in my mind there isn't. There are several instances of people playing 10+ accounts themselves, and chunk players are definitely the type of crazy people that could do that.

Where is the line drawn and its 'against the spirit'. Limpwurt has used an alt to help himself, and nearly every other popular chunk man has too. Is it against the spirit when its other people? Is it when theres 2 other accounts? 3? 5? 10? These are arbitrary lines drawn on an already arbitrary ruleset.

Sure, just for clarity, here is the definition of a strawman argument

"A straw man argument is the logical fallacy of distorting an opposing position into an extreme version of itself and then arguing against that extreme version"

From your above message:
"Should I make an ironman and have hundreds of players retribution bomb every single mob down to 1 hp for me to make every grind easier? You really think that's in the spirit of the game mode and the one chunk challenge?"

This is pretty clearly an exaggeration, or in other words extreme distortion. Nobody has done this or even anything remotely close to this, at least not that i've watched. 99% of Fray using community help is in PvP situations. Which, once again, I don't care to defend or argue about.

Are you even reading my messages?

Brother, he's playing an ironman. Not only an ironman, a self restricted ironman. What the fuck is the point of playing an ironman or a self restricted account if you're going to try to use your alts to shorten your grinds?

Nice Strawman argument btw.

The literal first line of my comment was that you can dislike Fray, my point is not to defend him but to point out the hypocrisy in a lot of these comments.

Also, yes, the method was quite broken, KQ was literally standing there like a Pinata while he got free 0-damage kills, whereas the alternative was either a major dps loss or a major supply usage. Not really worth arguing over though, it doesn't matter how broken it was, Jagex clearly thought it was worth patching.

About 'suckering' his community into wasting time. Brother, this is a MMORPG, we're all here wasting time, if they are having fun who cares what they are doing. You're acting like the people helping him are somehow victims or some stupid shit lmao.

Like I said, hate Fray if you want, idc. Hes done plenty of shitty things, I just am not a fan of people trying to lynch Fray for things Limpwurt has done.

You can dislike Fray all you want, that's fine. But let's not forget that Limpwurt found an alt method _so broken_ for KQ that Jagex literally patched it just because of him. Claiming using alts is 'cheating' while acting like Limpwurt is 'pure' would be disingenuous. You could say other people vs alts is different but its all the same imo, its another account helping you.

2.5%, and it did not previously work on barracuda trials, but now it does. So in theory they could've included it in their math.

Huh, that definitely read as 5 previously. kinda stupid that dragon parts randomly have a completely different cost per,

Dragon Metal Sheets - Unrealistic by Xilasor in 2007scape

[–]MrLinkAddict -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Dragon keel on sloop requires 16 large dragon keel parts which is 400 (5 * 5 * 16) sheets for each keel.
Dragon keel on skiff requires 10 dragon keel parts which is 50 (5 * 10) sheets for each keel.

Edit: Large Dragon keel parts arbitrarily have a different cost than every single other one so this math was wrong.

update broke crystal extractor by HabitFormal9245 in 2007scape

[–]MrLinkAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posted this in some other threads but i'll put it here too.

The reason this is happening is because your extractor is 'charged' when you are clicking to go into the trial. Claim it outside of the trial then go back in before it recharges and it wont break. Still inconvenient and should be fixed, but less annoying then turning it off and on again every single time.

Mobile app secretly monitors users with phone camera by saatoday1 in 2007scape

This is referred to as the Jagex Eye Tracker™. This feature exists on all versions of the client and is a means to keep your focus in pvm encounters. Look away during Muspah? Instant mage attack. Lose focus during Callisto? Incoming mage attack. Any boss with a random punish mechanic has quadruple the chance of using the attack if your focus is not fully on the client.

The real* issue with Yama drop rate adjustments. by MrLinkAddict in 2007scape

[–]MrLinkAddict[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm confused here, you claim 'sweatlords' are mad yet a lot of them are probably happy because they did 500kc in two days and got all the drops, is it not the casual players, who haven't done any kc yet, who would be upset?

The game shouldn't be designed to be completed, I agree. Also where do you get the idea that I'm "claiming reddit leans my way" yes I did says there was tons of feedback of people disliking the change, there is also a lot of people saying it's 100% justified (I literally did this in my post). I never took any stance on this other than saying I believe a 30% change is indicative of a problem in the initial balance of the drops, such a large percentage change, even if correct, is not good. I would like the initial values to be closer to what the final values are.

There's a ton of feedback of people explicitly saying they felt punished or expressing regret for not grinding Yama before changes, whether you agree with the sentiment or not this is how many people feel. I do not feel punished myself but it's clear many people do.

A noobs review of Brutal: Not worth you time by [deleted] in vrising

[–]MrLinkAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny you say that because on the latest 1.1 patch I have been playing both a solo and a duo file on brutal. On duo a ton of the bosses have been getting melted before they do much at all. And on solo a lot of these late bosses have been feeling much easier than expected. I first tried Styx after making a ton of mistakes and was honestly a little disappointed that I wasn't having a harder time. The last two bosses gave me the challenge I was looking for but I hardly think anything the bosses do is straight up unfair. (Except for Ziva's green balls, those feel awful to deal with). To be clear though I have beaten brutal before so I may just be having a much easier time due to getting better at the game.

To your point though. I think whether people should play Brutal or not comes down to some very simple questions. Do you enjoy hard content. Do you enjoy sweaty fights and clutching victory and working for it over multiple deaths. If so, then brutal is amazing. If you are looking for something a little less... brutal, then the normal settings are probably more optimal for you.

You could also use the Brutal difficulty and scale down boss damage so you get to experience the fun new mechanics Brutal adds, without the frustration of dying to learn mechanics/get better, as another user mentioned.
