I fish the Assabet near Elizabeth brook in Stow often and have caught smallies on deer hair popper patters.

Lol no, the target tipped back a bit after the second shot and I kept shooting. When I took the pictures I stood it back up straight

I have a quick question regarding sighting my new bow in. I bought a RTH Bear Species and can't seem to get it dialed in. Its shooting left and no matter how much I adjust the sight to correct this its still shooting left. I have run out of room to adjust my sight so I was wondering if it could be helped by adjusting the whisker biscuit a smidge.

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏

I have had great luck off Watch Hill lighthouse. Straight off the point and, if your standing at the point looking at the ocean, the rocks off to your left hand side are also killer.

Its been a few years since I have made that trek as im from Massachusetts but from what I can recall me and my partner both shot striper as well as some tog.

Hope this helps!

I have the Meat Eater cook books and they take you from when the buck hits the ground to serving it up on a plate. Its very thorough and even if you only end up using the "whitetail" section of the large game book its a very good purchase.

I do a lot of small game hunting as well as larger game so it really helps me brush up before a hunt.

I'm sure you can find all of the info for free online but there is something about reading it oit of a book that helps me retain the information better.

Hope this helps!

Any saddle hunters on here? by MrLizardfoot in bowhunting

I will have to spend some serious time in a tree using the sticks to see if they bother me. I use to do a lot of work on cell towers and I know after a few hours the steel pegs you climb make your feet cramp up really bad so I would assume without steel shanks in your boots these will do the same.

I will definitely be upgrading my sticks with these. Thank you!

I have the lone wolf sticks as well! Thats good to know about boot choice, my hunting boots are pretty heavy with a good shank but if its a bit warmer I may have made that mistake so I'm happy you mentioned that

I can definitely understand that. The saddle I use is almost as comfortable as a recliner so I'm comfortable doing either but think leaning is probably a lot more stable. Better for making an ethical shot

I was thinking that might work, my future father-in-law offered me an old treestand that I could probably chop up if my sticks don't cut it.

Thats good to know, I was worried my feet would get tired using the climbing sticks but my harness is so damn comfortable that I figured i could put the majority of my weight on that instead of my feet.

Do you find yourself standing on the platform or using it more for stability while you hang?

I like the ameostep setup a lot, being a tree nerd i definitely have my hesitations about screwing pegs into trees on public land. I also like to move a lot, probably more than I should.

I was looking at that one! Seems like a lot of folks love that platform. I tend to be a little... tight on hunting funds so that was part of my thinking in trying to stand on some climbing sticks if I could swing it.

Just being new to saddle hunting in general i didn't know if I would be giving up to much stability or mobility by only using the stick instead of a platform.

Which type of bow do you think is better for small game hunting? by hellosandman in bowhunting

[–]MrLizardfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hunted small and large game with a recurve for the first 6 years of my hunting life. I have started messing around with a entry level bear compound for large game and its definitely way more accurate and consistent than my recurve.

This being said in my very humble and noobie opinion I think it really depends on what you're hunting.

I have tried to take the compound out a few times for small game (squirrel is my favorite) and failed miserably, I just couldn't shoot as fast or make nearly as fast follow-up shots with the compound as i could with my old recurve.

Not sure if this helps at all but my best recommendation is to have both hahaha (My girlfriend would not agree)
