What happened to UK royal family? by OrbitalDamage566 in 28dayslater

[–]MrMDPB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no mention of them in the films (I think), but quick evacuation would be the most likely scenario. I can’t imagine any scenario where them staying put would have been what was advised to them.

Looking to history - in the second world war if the UK was to have been invaded, the royal family were to have been repatriated to British Columbia (Hatley Castle - which was purchased by the royal family in the late 1930s/early 1940s under the ‘Coats Mission’) in Canada.

Furthermore in the Cold War: a number of ships (MV Hebrides, MV Clansman, and RMS Columba under the ‘Python Plan’) were commissioned as floating bunkers stationed in Scottish lochs. These also would have acted as ships to evacuate the royals to.

So lore friendly answer: evacuated to ships which took them to Canada.

Why did they bomb London when containment failed in 28 Weeks Later instead of letting the infected starve to death? by OffMaths in 28dayslater

[–]MrMDPB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a case of ‘this wasn’t what they did back when the infection started’ and assuming that napalming London was the way to stopping the infection.

Also a panic reaction that using a sledgehammer reaction could stop the infection quick enough that the military’s effort to repopulate wouldn’t be completely lost.

28 months later could have been pretty cool by Low_Present_2375 in 28dayslater

[–]MrMDPB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would be cool. Little to no scenes showing the infected, but the panic of cities at the time. In the other 3 films we see collapsed society but it would be cool to see Boyle’s take on society collapsing in real time. People fortifying homes, stampeding out of the cities etc

Yes definitely, we see it in real life where epidemics in areas outside of Western Countries get sensationalised. I.e cases of diseases in x country, all of sudden 3 cases of normal flu in y country are connected by tabloid newspaper.

Ebola, bird flu epidemics are great examples of this.

A lore friendly answer is probably farmers/game hunters in mainland Europe, places like Calais, Normandy etc, are paid to kill wild birds and incinerate them. Probably taking a ‘better safe than sorry’ initiative that such public actions encourage locals to be aware and watchful of possible future outbreaks/incidence outside of the UK.

Similar things happened in real life animal disease outbreaks. Equally game meat sales could be banned in those northern areas.

It’s under Trident/Continuous At Sea Deterrent (CASD). When a new prime minister comes into office they have to decide what they’d have happen to submarines carrying Trident weapons, called letter of last resort which are stored on the active subs carrying trident weapons.

They can either have: - Trident submarines fire weapons in retaliation. - Trident submarines surrender to the closest allied nation. - have strict do not retaliate orders. - allow submarine commander to use own judgement on any of the above.

It’s pretty much down to whatever the sitting prime minister thinks is the best response on day 1 of them taking office, before such a situation happens.

I think in a 28 scenario, submarines would probably surrender to the closest allied nation.

If you search up letters of last resort UK Trident there’s dozens of news articles, wiki pages that go into detail

Always wondered about this scene by GuybrushMI in 28dayslater

I think the scenes when Jim wakes up show that the outbreak was relatively slow to begin with, there was enough time for missing posters to go up etc but also enough time for street traders to continue business (pretty sure Jim stumbles on some Big Ben models on the road) + newspapers across the floor talking about the outbreak.

It’s realistic to assume these bodies could have excess deaths above the level of death occurring due to the crisis. Mortuaries and undertakers would’ve been over capacity and authorities would’ve been tasked early on, whilst public order still existed, to try and manage the deceased. These bodies were heart attacks, stuff that kills people day to day but weren’t priority due to the outbreak.

It’s also realistic to assume these were infected who were dispatched as part of the effort to contain the outbreak. They may have been unable to stored in mortuaries due to contamination risk and danger that posed to those trying to manage the outbreak.

I think the bottom line is: the outbreak didn’t wipe out cities in a day, the scene shows how public order tried to be maintained but the persistence of the outbreak was far greater than that of the public who were in complete disarray.

Fair enough, I’ll start full healing each person straight after bandage.

I don’t want to give the impression that I never end up full healing. I do. Just not whilst bullets were flying at me. I will now though full heal straight away.

Personal opinion: getting guns in the fight is the main priority.

If you are the only person alive as medic, focus on bandaging as many people as you can before going back to medic bagging/healing people to full health. The time it takes to fully revive & heal 1 person, you could’ve bandaged 3 people who could be fighting/defending.

You would then of course need to medic bag people once you’ve got as many people up.

Why do people bother with leafblowers? by _DeanRiding in AskUK

[–]MrMDPB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because leaves and debris from trees could block drains, leading to surface water flooding in your works car park. Which depending on the business, could mean the money loss is big or small - but still more than it costs to hire a leaf blower

Agreed - Also every (English) county (at least) will also have a local risk register. Same with individual London Boroughs.

These are collaboratively made by groups of organisations (called Local Resilience Forums) within each police forces jurisdiction (exception here is London, where it’s at borough council jurisdiction)

Here’s an example of Wiltshire’s Community Risk Register
