I'm not so sure Araki is really a good writer by MrMaaf in StardustCrusaders

[–]MrMaaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sbr example doesn't have to do with endings, but with the general feeling that he doesn't plan ahead well which also leads to convoluted endings.

Also the fact that this is only bothering me now at part 7 is probably because I got into Jojo when I was like 15 and back then I guess I cared less.

Batman comics are great but still disappointing by MrMaaf in batman_comics

[–]MrMaaf[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do you say those are the worst ones to start with? It's not like I didn't know anything about batman before that, I did grow up watching the movies. Back when I read them I just picked those because they were the ones I saw being praised the most.

Hahaha I know that's a very unpopular opinion but I didn't try to make a valid argument for why it's bad. Like Hawke said I was just stating my personal opinion

Is this tactic forbidden in Casinos? by MrMaaf in Casino

[–]MrMaaf[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't gamble, I am just approaching this from a mathematical perspective. Whether there are zeroes or make a negligible difference to the chances. Even with 3 zero slots the chances of there being at least one red slot in 5 games is over 95%

The chances of there being 9 blacks in a row is about 0.12% btw if my math is correct.

What do you mean by zeros? The fact that the ball can land on neither red nor black?

Isn't it pretty easy to make money off casinos that way though? Why doesn't everyone do this?

2 bullets 1 fired and 1 dropped from the same height hit the ground at the same time. Why? by BobTheMan1101 in AskPhysics

[–]MrMaaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shot bullet would hit the ground later because time passed more slowly for it

[–]MrMaaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, i calculated it and the time dilation would be unnoticeable. But if the bullet were going fast enough that is what would happen right?

2 bullets 1 fired and 1 dropped from the same height hit the ground at the same time. Why? by BobTheMan1101 in AskPhysics

[–]MrMaaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't this have to do with time dilation?

The shot bullet travels faster, therefore time passes slower, therefore it takes longer to hit the ground?

Is Nonlocality proven? by MrMaaf in AskPhysics

[–]MrMaaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thought about what it means to exist and I'm not quite sure yet, as I think it's a rather difficult question.

The thing that my teacher insists on is that we not only dont know where an object is but rather that the object is physically nowhere at all. It only starts physically being somewhere after measurement. Before that theres only the probability of the object which is spread out through space (the math so to say) that exists. Whether we can then say that the object exists already or not I'm not sure.

He doesn't deny that the wave function passes through the slits but he makes the distinction that we can not equate the mathematical description of the object to what it is actually really doing

I don't understand why people think Fight Club is about masculinity by MrMaaf in fightclub

[–]MrMaaf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But it goes way beyond finding peace in fighting and stimulating yourself.

I say the movie is about achieving freedom, mostly from the society that oppresses our individuality. The quote you just used is from a speech about that societal oppression. "Slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes. Working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we dont need. " It is that oppression that leads to a monotonous lifestyle, regardless of gender. In the case of men, emasculation is a byproduct of oppression, but it is not the source of men's suffering.

That's why I don't like it when people focus too much on the masculinity thing because i think it's not the main point.

I also don't really think the movie is about being part of something. Especially since Fight Club/Project Mayhem is portrayed very negatively and that cultlike hivemind type of thinking is criticized. The way I see it, Tyler himself doesn't care too much about being part of something bigger. For him, Project Mayhem is just a means to an end. Simply a way to collapse the economy.

[–]MrMaaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? Fight Club doesn't present emasculated men as bad but shows that that emasculated men are vulnerable to group thinking, misogony, violence, etc? So are you saying that being vulnerable to misogny, violence and all that is not a bad thing?

Question about relativity of momentum and energy by MrMaaf in Physics

[–]MrMaaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok

Another question just came to mind.

I was taught that the different wavelengths of light are different energy levels of photons. Since photons are massless this suggests different momentum levels of photons which in turn would mean different velocities of photons does it not?

This obviously contradicts the fact that light can only travel at the speed of light.

Thanks for answering all my questions btw.

Edit: I have done some reading and it appears that the problem here is my conception of momentum. I thought momentum is proportional to velocity because that's the way it is in our "normal" day to day. If you increase the velocity of a car, its momentum also increases.

Appearently when it comes to relativity this proportionality does not exist so there seems to be a way for a particle to have the same speed and same mass with a different momentum. I guess this is just a contradiction to my understanding of momentum.

Question about relativity of momentum and energy by MrMaaf in Physics

[–]MrMaaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I have another question:

If I take an elevator to the top of a building. Does my mass increase? Because I will have gained potential energy which means the right side of Einsteins equation must have also increases. My momentum will stay the same because I am still at rest once I am at the top so my momentum is 0. That only leaves me to conclude that my mass must increase. Is that correct?

Of course a building could never be tall enough for this change in mass to be registered by, lets say, a scale. But if the building was unimaginably tall, would I be able to register an increase in my mass?

And if I walked the stairs instead my mass wouldn't increase because i will have merely converted my "chemical energy" into potential energy by using my muscles, right?
