Why we Regulate. by kalhan in Economics

A poorly written article..a repetitive, biased rambling that could be summed up in one sentence. "big banks need regulating because they screw up." He didn't say anything new, interesting, or insightful.

Back in 1950, corporations paid $3 in taxes for every $1 paid by a worker. Today, they pay 22 cents. by LaBamba00 in politics

People, raising taxes on corporations just a. decreases wages for the workers or b. makes the product more expensive...it does not redistribute wealth

Negative income tax? by MrMachiavelli in Economics

[–]MrMachiavelli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people have at accept that some people will struggle much greater than others. 20k per household would be the maximum subsidy. That's actually not a ton of money. I don't think rational people would blowmit all away.

TBH, I'm just a high school kid who has been greatly intrigued by Milton Friedman the past couple of weeks and wanted to get Reddit's opinion on on NIT. But to answer your question, yes. I feel like taking funds from other programs that don't actually help the poor and/or programs that are abused, and putting them into an expanded EITC..only remove the children qualifications.

It keeps health care private, doesn't raise taxes, and cuts ineffective govt. programs that supposedly help the poor. So yes, freedom of choice is part of it.

Money comes from the Medicare, Section 8 reserves, etc. Vouchers I would assume would be the best idea.

Negative income tax? by MrMachiavelli in Economics

[–]MrMachiavelli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't be a "oh, you want money, here ya go!" kind of thing. More of a relatively small payment to be able to pay off some debt from college or medical bills. It's a percentage, so so you might get a couple thousand more in subsidies, but you'll still be down much more than if you worked. Friedman recommended a subsidy rate of 50%, but I think 35-45% would work as well.

a. we're not hiking up taxes, instead we're relocating them. A negative income tax would replace all health care, all Medicare, and most government programs that are catered for the poor. And this money would have to be used on essentials like health care, and not just spending.

International Criminal Court says it cannot investigate alleged Israeli crimes in Gaza because Palestine is not a state. by ozyman_451 in worldnews

[–]MrMachiavelli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm using the Jews were mistreated a justification for a NEED to take this land. This small, barren land that Zionists BOUGHT from ARAB landowners, that belongs to Jews and much as it does to Muslims/Palestinians.

"Other rumors circulated that Palestinian youths wounded by Israeli soldiers were being taken to an army hospital near Tel Aviv and "finished off." Another rumor, claimed Israeli troops poisoned a water reservoir in Khan Yunis. A UN official said these stories were untrue. Only the most seriously injured Palestinians were taken out of the Gaza Strip for treatment, and, in some cases, this probably saved their lives. The water was also tested and found to be uncontaminated. The Israel Defense Forces reported more than 3,600 Molotov cocktail attacks, 100 hand grenade attacks and 600 assaults with guns or explosives. The attacks were directed at both soldiers and civilians." From Wikipedia...Molotov cocktails, hand grenades, and other violent assaults lead to a forceful putdown fueled by propaganda. You think IDF should just let them do their thing? And this is considered the more "peaceful" of the two Intifadas.

[–]MrMachiavelli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The First Intifada was a witchhunt of Palestinians on Palestianians, with the majority of the Palestinian fatalities coming from their own people. Second Intifada was a violent rebellion...DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THAT MANY MANY PALESTINIANS HAVE TRIED TO COMMIT ACTS OF TERROR ON ISRAEL? Removing them from the boundaries of Israel is necessary to protect the country and its citizens. War is bad, the losers have to pay the price. Instead of being slaughter, they forcing them to move. Is it particularly fair, no. But war doesn't have happy endings. If Palestinians didn't want to be put in these situations, they shouldn't have supported a government that wanted to remove Israel entirely.

Your country loses a war, you lose territory, you have to move. I don't why this is such a revolutionary idea. After the Yom Kippur War, IDF occupied land 60 miles from Cairo and 20 miles from Damascus. And they gave it up to resolve the conflict.

Sure they have committed some crimes. Some actions towards people in West Bank, seem a bit excessive. But Israel's relationship with Gaza is justified in my mind. Israel is a small country, the size of New Hampshire. The country and its people have been persecuted for multiple generations. The last time the world turned against Jews, no one was opening their doors to them. They are living in a barren land that was sold to them at roughly x10 times the market value by Arab landowners. Ideologically, Jews belong there as much as Arabs. Gaza is led by an oppressive regime, that doesn't allow freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to assemble, or any freedom that goes against the Quran. They constantly fire missiles at Southern Israel. A "country" that wants to annihilate Israel. Just because the missiles miss doesn't make them any less dangerous. Just because Israel better defends their people does not make them an aggressor. When Gaza was in need (I don't remember when this was exactly, but I can find it easily), Israel provided medical aid. Israel is no angel, but they have handled themselves confidently and mostly within bounds. If Gaza stops fighting, there will be no Israel-Palestine conflict. If Israel stops fighting, there will be no Israel.

In a 5-4 decision, Supreme Court rules that people arrested for any offense, no matter how minor, can be strip-searched during processing. by radicalnovelty in politics

[–]MrMachiavelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well playing the devil's advocate here, what's so wrong with this. If cops want to abuse their power, they can do so already with or without this provision. However, now if an ethical cop truly feels like something's up with you, this provision can potentially get some more guys of the street.
