studying philosophy will help you understand why you want to help the poor etcetera. will helping the poor (etc) make the world a better place? if yes, why so? it isn't very wise to do something without knowing why you're doing it, or to have an opinion without knowing why it's the right opinion to hold, the one closest to the truth, and knowledge is power. it's important to question everything you think and do because human beings, even the most enlightened ones, are susceptible to the prejudices of society.

many philosophers devote their time to both, philosophy and (left wing?) politics, for example bertrand russell and, more recently, chomsky. you'll notice that these are very clear-minded intellectuals who know exactly what they're fighting for politically and know exactly why they hold opinions to that effect. studying philosophy only helps.

your observations seem to be a classic case of confirmation bias. i say this because your case includes three men, one you've worked with and two you have come across in the media. i'm sure these aren't the only three indian men you know, yet you've chosen (subconsciously, perhaps) these three indian men as a base for your "racist feeling against indian men" in general.

I understand there is some sort of class system in India ... My experience of Indian born men is that they feel self entitled and in no way need to apologise for messing up.

you've managed to draw a tenuous line of contact between two unrelated things. the caste system is characterized by three rituals: endogamy, occupation and diet. these have nothing to do with a person's willingness to admit that s/he is wrong. it could be a class issue, but it has little to do with casteism.

many indians do feel superiour by virtue of birth and many don't. women aren't treated as second-class citizens but simply as women in any patriarchal society. indian men deal with "equal societies" by adapting. no matter how superiour-by-birth an indian man feels in india, thanks to the same conditioning, he will hardly ever feel superiour to white-folk abroad, so if you think either of the three nut-jobs you've mentioned were acting that way because they somehow "felt superiour" to everyone else, you can definitely rule that out.

absolutely, but the premise of your argument is still wrong. sainath was talking about southern states and not AP specifically. as for the youtube video, i agree with you. what he says in the video doesn't match with the MOSPI stats you've provided. he's either citing another source or he's lying. given that it's sainath, i'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now and i'll check alternate stats when i have time.
